A Jay Teaching A Heron (CLOSED)

Today it was Heronpaw turn to be trained. The young deputy searched for his apprentice in the camp and when he finally saw him, he trotted to him with his tail up in a friendly manner. "Morning, Heronpaw. Sorry for not training you sooner but Honeypaw also needed my help but today I'm going to dedicate the day to your training. Are you ready to start?" He purred looking at the apprentice with a kind smile. Jaystream's head already started planning his training lesson before the midday: first, he would teach him to hunt and fish. Then some swimming training would be good too and finally, they will end with some battle moves. With that, they should cover the basic skills for an apprentice to defend and survive by itself outside of the camp.

"Sure!" Heronpaw said to his mentor, his green eyes sparkling with excitement.

Jaystream smiled relieved. At least he didn't hate him for not being around lately... He couldn't afford the idea of a clanmate hating him for his mistakes.

Without losing any second, the tom left the camp, making a sign with his tail so the apprentice would follow him. With Leafbare is was harder to find good hunting spots where they could both fish and hunt land prey but after so many patrols the warrior already knew the perfect place. The deputy chose a big open shore free from reeds and next to a place in the river free of ice. "Okay, Heronpaw. First of all: fishing. As Riverclan cats you must already know that our main source of food is fish so it's necessary that you learn how to do it. Come with me." The warrior approached the river and leapt toward a rock where he could crouch down and look for fishes. His eyes kept the focus on the clear water until a silver flash appeared. He hit the prey with one sheathed paw, tossing it away to the shore. Soon, Jaystream caught it with his jaws so the animal would stop struggling. The tom buried the fresh-kill and then turned his sight to the apprentice. "Fishing is mostly about patience and speed. You wait for a silver flash and then try to throw the fish away from the water so it doesn' have any chances to escape. Now is your turn."

Heronpaw listened closely to the deputy's words, then stared at the water.  When he saw a silver flash, he swatted the fish onto the shore. He clamped down on the fish, so it wouldn't get away. "Is that good?" he said to his mentor.

"That was good enough. Remember to not cause too much splashing or the other fishes might get away. Now, let's try something different." The warrior padded toward the river and he waited patiently over a rock. When a fish was lazily swimming next to him, he dove his head into the water and caught the slippery animal with his jaws. Quickly, he separated it from the water and kept the prey in his mouth until it stopped struggling.

Jaystream left the fish with the other two and then turned his focus back to Heronpaw. "Your jaws are also a good way to fish but it's harder because you have to be swift and contain your breathing for few seconds. Go ahead and try."

Heronpaw checked how Jaystream performed this type of fishing technique.  He bent over a rock to look for a silver gleam, then dove his head into the water. Suddenly, an eagle snatched the fish and took it away to its nest.  Heronpaw lost his target, and fell into the water, as he was unbalanced.  "Oof!" he said as the eagle flew back towards him.

When the warrior saw the shadow of the eagle it was too late. The bird stole the prey of his apprentice and now was flying toward him, ready to kill. The lean tom didn't waste any other second. When the eagle was about to attack Heronpaw, he leapt toward it and caught its wing with his jaws, leaving the predator unable to fly.

Jaystream used Teeth Grip on Eagle, dealing 13 damage and costing 20 stamina. Eagle is stunned for 3 turns.

The eagle screeched in pain as the cat bit its wing.  It couldn't move a muscle, though it was trying its hardest.

Eagle is stunned for 2 more turns.

The tom sunk his fangs even deeper into the flesh, clawing the face of the predator with his claws. He had to be sure that the eagle wouldn't attack them again.

Jaystream keeps Teeth Grip on Eagle, dealing 13 damage. Eagle is stunned for 2 turns.
