Be prepared!

It was a chilly morning in Riverclan. Lilytail was on her way to the apprentice's den. She was going to wake her apprentice up so they could battle train. The sleek she-cat took a few steps inside and looked for the pelt of her apprentice. Once spotted, Lilytail gently prodded Dewpaw and began to softly speak. "Dewpaw, wake up! Time to battle train! Meet me at the camp entrance." she said softly. Afterwards, Lilytail spun around and left. She began to wait for Dewpaw where she told her to.

The sound of Lilytail's voice drifted through Dewpaw's ears as the apprentice slept. At first, Dewpaw thought it was just a dream. The white form of her mentor standing in front of her while she struggled to make her way over to her. She felt like her paws were sinking in a marsh as she struggled to find a grip on the ground that peeled away from her. The vision of water meeting her eyes, consuming her, made her jolt awake in her nest. Her light grey pelt spiked up in alarm as she panted for a few minutes in an attempt to calm her breathing.

The safety and warmth of the apprentice's den welcomed her. She shivered at the cold air of morning and ran her tongue over her chest to smooth the fur. What had caused that dream? She puzzled over it for a moment before realising sharply what the voice had said. Her training! Dewpaw leapt to her paws and rushed out of the apprentice's den, racing towards the entrance of camp in a desperate bid not to be late. Her fur still tangled and not quite neat, but she'd rather have messy fur than miss her first training lesson.

"I'm here!" She panted as she slid on some wet grass, coming to a sloppy stop in front of Lilytail with an embarrassed expression.

Lilytail chuckled lightly. She helped Dewpaw up and then turned to face her. "Okay Dewpaw, let us begin training. Follow me." The white she-cat exited the camp and began to lead her apprentice to a good spot to begin training.

Once they made it, she turned to adress Dewpaw. "Dewpaw, before we begin training,  can you tell me what can Riverclan do better than all the other clans? I hope you kind of have an idea and don't be afraid to say anything. Riverclanners can do many things but this one is special to us." Swimming was a part of Riverclan. They thrived off of the fishes in the river and could use the river to their advantage during a battle. During winter, however, they had to resort to land-hunting if they didn't want to freeze to death in cold water.

The grey she-cat shook her coat free of the snow and followed Lilytail eagerly. She watched the scenery around her with curious and wide eyes. It was all so new, being allowed to go out of camp and see what was beyond the safety of the reeds. She memorized every detail even as Lilytail began to speak.

What was special? Everything. Dewpaw went over what she had been told in the nursery, what she had overheard from other cats.
"We swim!" She responded, certain that it was the correct answer. "The other clans need dry prey, but we get to have fish!" Dewpaw looked at the frozen ground, her confidence fading a tiny bit as she realised the land was solid around them. "but what do we do when we can't swim?" She inquired.

OOC: How much of the Battle system do you remember? Maybe we just need to go over some things you aren't sure of or are a bit rusty at? :)

IC: Lilytail nodded gleefully. "Very good Dewpaw!" she licked her chest before continuing, "If we can't swim or if it's too cold, We'll we begin to hunt on land. Riverclan isn't just swimming and catching fish. We can do much more! Other clans can learn to swim as we can learn to climb or hunt on dry land." Lilytail beckoned Dewpaw closer to her. "Since you were born during the time of leaf-bare, you won't learn to swim until newleaf. I was born during greenleaf so my first lesson was in swimming." she explained to her apprentice. She began walking away and then quickly turned around. "Dewpaw, are you ready to begin battle training?" she asked seriously.

(Ooc: I think I remember some of the basics, we have to write down our attacks and stats at the end of the post and we use the damage chart for actual damage amounts right? Also short post from me since I'm at work )


Dewpaw smiled Arby's her mentor. Comforted by the confirmation that she had been right and listening carefully to what Lilytail explained. It made sense. She had no desire to test how waterproof her coat was and it would be hard to get warm again in this frigid leafbare.

When Lilytail walked away, she stood to follow, by stalled when she turned abruptly. Battle training.. Dewpaw felt unease claw at her fur. She shifted uncomfortably in the snow.
"Do we have to fight" She asked softly, her blue eyes looking up at Lilytail imploringly.
