"Oh, StarClan," Emberpaw whispered when she realized what was happening. "Not again... Thank you, Heatherpaw." Regardless of how much Emberpaw wished she and Heatherpaw were literally anywhere else, here they were, so Emberpaw had to come up with a plan. Unfortunately, that had never been her strong suit. So, rather than that, she went with the first idea that came to mind, leaping towards the owl.

Emberpaw gave Heatherpaw a grateful smile, though she never quite let the stunned creature go. This was different than her assessment - she wasn't the only cat who was in danger here, and she wasn't about to let Heatherpaw get seriously injured by this stupid bird. It might be bigger than most of them, but it was still a bird. She had proven that the last time, hadn't she? She could do it again if she focused.

Emberpaw, feeling the creature starting to regain its strength beneath her paws, took what she assumed would be her last opportunity to rake her claws across its belly. "I think... We can do this." Her voice was quiet, not for any particular reason other than her own awe. There was no warrior here to help them, but they weren't dead yet.

The owl, breaking free of her grip, flew upwards before diving towards Emberpaw. Apparently the thing held grudges, who knew? Well, she did now, thanks to the talons that attacked her back. Heatherpaw collapsed to the ground at her denmate's final blow beneath the owl. Now that it was completely weak and dazed, she slipped out from underneath it and dealt the fatal blow, gnashing her teeth into its neck. She panted and flopped onto her side, unscathed but very tired from the battle.

"We should rest a little bit, and then take the owl and that squirrel back to the camp," Emberpaw sighed, collapsing nearby. She hadn't been lucky enough to escape unscathed, and she had a sneaking suspicion at least one of her previous wounds had been reopened. Still, they had succeeded in taking out the owl - well, Heatherpaw had. "Sorry about disturbing that thing in the first place," she added.

"I'm just sorry you got hurt," Heatherpaw mewed, eyeing the wounds on her back. She hauled herself up on her paws and heavily padded over to Emberpaw, then flopped back down next to her and began to gently lick the blood from the scratches until they stopped bleeding.

"I'm not. I'm glad you didn't get hurt." As her friend started tending her wounds, her mind flitted back to her earlier thought. "Hey, do you think it's possible for a cat to give off some kind of... Scent or something that attracts owls to them?" Seriously, she hadn't even been in the tree this time.

"Well, you do still have a wound from your scuffle with one before that didn't completely heal," the sandy-colored apprentice replied. "Perhaps that's what attracted it. That or we got too close to its nest. Maybe we can take a quick dip in a river and wash off the scent. I would suggest Sunningrocks, but they're 'supposedly' RiverClan's right now..." She rolled her eyes with a grunt.

"That would make sense," Emberpaw agreed. "I'd do just about anything to make sure it doesn't happen again," she added, mostly to herself. Thinking, but unable to answer her question herself, she spoke it aloud. "...Do you know where the closest one is?"
