Cherrypaw's assessment

Specklefang paced and paced, her tail lashing with ever-increasing frustration. The constant stress making her paws itch, the need to move overwhelmingly. Thunderclan had been plagued with so much grief and death that it was suffocating her, and her clan-mates alongside her most likely. So what could so do about it? Well.. should give one young cat a mission that could change their life forever, or at least give them a day of happiness.

Specklefang loomed over her tortoiseshell apprentice, her eyes narrowed as she glowered. She wasn't awake and she spent moons perfecting her hearing and smelling to always be aware of her surroundings even in sleep. Shoving her apprentice in the stomach with her muzzle she meowed. "Cherrypaw, if you don't get up you're not getting your assessment."

Granted Cherrypaw had gotten a lot lot better because of her training with Specklefang. She still had times forgetting to keep alert when she was asleep. Like that moment she had forgot and was in a comfortable sleep when Specklefang shoved her in the stomach her blind eyes snapped open and she was on her paws in seconds fur bristled slightly but she relaxed her fur taking in her mentor's scent. Though she wouldn't appoligize for her deep sleep."I'm up let's get started"She spoke.

"I'm glad you said that." Specklefang generally felt awkward around the apprentice now, knowing that she was the blind she-cat step-mother. It was hard to know if Cherrypaw actually knew that Specklefang was dating her father, finding this information rather laughable the she-cat smiled whilst holding back a chuckle. Taking a deep breath she took a moment to appreciate the cooling weather, it was doing wonders for her, she was never as hot as she used to be, feeling like she was often suffocating from the heat.

"This assessment is going to be a little more different from what the other apprentices will do, and have done; due to your disability." Dipping / more like struggling out of the camp entrance she led the way to the sandy hollow to start the assessment. "We'll start with the usual. Go catch four pieces of prey, one that slithers, one that climbs, one that flies, and one that swims. If you pick the easiest animal for any of these you might just have to fight me. Understood? I'll tell you what you need to do next after." Specklefang ordered, huffing as she finished and giving the signal for the assessment to start.

OOC: Once the hunting portion is done, you're done. The stuff after that is purely character building and filler. You can post and keep posting w/o me as long as it isn't a predator encounter.

Cherrypaw was quiet for a moment. On her part she was actually unaware of that her and her father were dating. At least at the moment. She remained quiet as she followed her mentor out into the territory quietly slidding through the camp entrance with relative ease. After hearing her order she nodded and went off into the territory silent footed as she kept her ears pricked for sounds of prey. The first sound she heard rather then scent was the sound of a mouse eating away at a seed or something but she knew it was a mouse. As she pinpointed where it might be she crouched slinking forward on silent paws her ears were pricked ever so slightly to catch sounds around her. She then pounced hoping she wouldn't miss.Though that didn't happen as the blind apprentice landed just catching the sound of the mouse scurrying away because of something else and a scent hit her noise making Cherrypaw's fur bristle involuntarily

Specklefang watched in the shadows, finding it extremely hard to stay silent and stealthy with a cat that had extremely good hearing. Specklefang watched as the mouse Cherrypaw was going for skittered away, and a god-awful stench reached her nose. A scent she was familiar with, and it was fresh. Shooting forwards she leapt onto Cherrypaw, covering her protectively as she stood over the she-cat. Her head was swinging around, looking as it was upon them but she was unsure of were since the stench was everywhere.

Tail lashing she growled lowly. "When I say run, you run okay? You're in no shape to fight a Badger, once you get to camp you bring reinforcements then you can face it. Alright? I expect you to listen because Starclan forbid I let you die on my watch because you couldn't listen." They were in a tight spot, a small clearing with dense shrubbery around them. Escaping would be hard if it came to that, claws unsheathing and teeth-baring she watched and waited, a growl in her throat. She just hoped it didn't come to a battle and it was just passing by.

Cherrypaw fur was bristling in half alarm and half irritation at whatever had scared her prey off. Though the blind apprentice had been aware of her mentor watching her just by sound she had failed to notice the badger as she had been focused on the mouse. Now practically underneath her mentor as she stood protectively over her the blind tortie lowered into a crouch her whiskers brushing the ground. She didn't need to as she felt the ground rumble underpaw. She closed her blind eyes listening silently. She couldn't see but if she did she would have been able to catch a glimsp of black and white fur. Though partially listening to her mentors words she blinked open her eyes ears pricked"ok...but what of my assessment"She spoke quietly but it wasn't out of fear rather then hoping to not alert the badger. She wouldn't leave unless ordered to and that might just happen.

Specklefang growled as her eyes caught the black and white pelt of the Badger, her back arching as she spat. "Don't worry about it right now." Specklefang hissed, taking a step forward as she saw the pointy face and beady black eyes of the creature. "Cherrypaw! Go! Run like you've never run before!" Specklefang screeched as she launched towards the badger, kicking up dirt as she collided with it. Wrapping burly paws around the badger she wrestled it to the ground, all the while yowling and screeching out of anger and frustration. "You aren't wanted here you mongrel!" Specklefang snapped.

Specklefang used Jumping Strike! Costing 12 damage and 20 Stamina!



The badger met with the burly cat, his maw watering as the delicious scent of prey washed over his nose. As if on cue his stomach rumbled as its own anger built up as it hit the ground, despite the cats attempt it was still stronger than it. Heaving it's lugging form to its paws and shaking the cat off, he bared his teeth and wrapped his large jaws around the large cat's shoulders, relishing in the sound of its mortified screeching and the taste of blood on his tongue.

Cherrypaw's ears flattened as she started backing up. Every muscle in her furred body screamed to leap into action and she wanted to stay and help her mentor even as she heard her screech. Though she had to follow orders. Her fur fluffed out and lifting her head she stood up and whirled around running out of veiw but in her mind she felt it so wrong to leave her mentor even after hearing her screech. She laid her ears flat skidding to a stop. She didn't think she could leave her mentor. She felt so conflicted she was upset. She glanced back as she considered helping her mentor but what if she wasn't needed and got in the way. She shook her head deciding to get help was the best She could do and fast so she could return and help Specklefang. She pushed through the camp entrance quickly not caring that bits of her fur snagged in the entrance. She looked around but obviously couldn't see so she managed to just barely get out"b..badger Specklefang sent me for help"she said between breathes trying to get someone's help.

Leopardclaw had just been about to sink his teeth into the juicy-looking water vole that lay between his paws when a frantic-looking Cherrypaw burst through the camp entrance, the sudden noise making him whip his head around, his eyes widening worriedly.  Jumping to his paws, the golden-spotted deputy trotted up to hear the apprentice's breathless plea, the fur along his spine prickling aggressively.  Oh great, a badger is the last thing ThunderClan needs right now!  His claws already unsheathed, Leopardclaw narrowed his hazel eyes and hissed; "I will go.  Lead me to where they are Cherrypaw, the three of us should be able to drive it away."  It was true; the mix of his quick-hitting agility and Specklefang's raw brute strength - along with Cherrypaw's devolving skills - would be able to drive it off fairly quickly.  He knew though, that it probably would be wiser to take along a couple more cats...but he couldn't risk it.  They didn't need more hunters than necessary out of commission, with the coming cold season.  This would have to be enough.

Leafstorm could tell something was wrong. His suspicions were justified as Cherrypaw came racing into camp and his heart stopped for a moment. Where was Specklefang?

"Where is she?" He barked. "Where's Specklefang?"

He didn't wait for a reply though, and rushed past the deputy and Cherrypaw, practically flying through the undergrowth. His eyes were slits as rage clashed with fear. If Specklefang was dead... no. He'd kill anything and everything that stood in her way before that happened.
It didn't take him long to find the battle, following the trail Cherrypaw had made through the forest. With a ferocious snarl he threw himself wildly onto the badger's back, viciously clawing at it's sides and leaving deep wounds that would scar for moons to come.
"Leopardclaw's on his way!" He grunted before sinking his sharp fangs into the badger's neck, nearly piercing it's life-giving artery.

Specklefang spat and writhed in her place as the badger refused to relinquish its grip, though Specklefang managed to rip her shoulder from the rotten Badger with a pained gasp. Stumbling the she-cat's leg quivered under her, her tail lashing as she looked at it with wide; angry eyes. Blood splattered the ground as her fur hung loosely from the ripped teeth marks, her muscles screaming in pain. Specklefang circled it slowly, her paw touching the ground tenderly as she did so. She had to do everything in her power to buy Cherrypaw some time to get to camp and bring back some help, she had to.

Crouching down Specklefang launched for it again, her claws unsheathed as they connected with its face. Her shoulder screamed at her, heating with the effort and blood welled and spilt, clotting her fur. The badger's despicable head recoiled. Specklefang moved forwards, her back legs planted in the dirt; shuddering. Even if it cost her life, Specklefang would protect her clan, her kits, family and friends. Even the cats she didn't care for, they didn't deserve to die senselessly.

Specklefang was surprised to see Leafstorm fly in, though she was greatly relieved. So Cherrypaw had made it in time, huh? Wheezing Specklefang nodded breathlessly as her mate notified of Leopardclaw's coming arrival. Specklefang fell back as Leafstorm leapt onto its back, her front paws buckling under her as she scrunched her face up out of the pain.

Specklefang used Upright Front Paws! Costing 13 Damage and 20 Stamina!

The Badger growled, licking its maw and glaring down at the wounded prey-cat. Beady black eyes glowered into the she-cat's green eyes. Though he flinched as she scratched at his eyes and face, though he couldn't stifle a chuff, finding her attempt of wounding him hilarious. Giving enough space he pulled back a large, long-clawed paw and was about to slam it across the she-cats face. Until another cat threw itself onto his back, giving a cry the badger bucked and shook to try to get it off.

Cherrypaw's wide blind eyes looked up at him before she nodded and turned or rather whirled around and she dashed back out of the camp. Following the trail she had went with on her way there. Managing not to trip over her own paws. Reaching the very small clearing the scent hit her hard again. She hadn't quite heard her father as he had rushed past her and she blinked skidding to a stop as she heard them fighting the badger.

"Wha-LEAFSTORM!" Leopardclaw's fur ruffled as the younger tom pushed past him and Cherrypaw, racing out into the forest without a second through. Growling slightly under his breath, the long-legged tom flicked his tail before taking off after the apprentice, quickly breaking into a full-speed run. Oh please StarClan, let Specklefang be okay! We don't need her stuck in the medicine cat's den... Soon enough the revolting scent of badger swept into his nose, and he finally caught sight of the hideous creature as he rounded the thick trunk of an oak. Taking into account his surroundings, the spotted tabby tomcat waited until just the right second before dashing out of the undergrowth at full speed, hitting the badger in the head with a powerful blow. Afterward he skidded to a halt beside the other defenders, spitting defiance at the larger animal.
