Lilypaw's Assessment [closed]

After Lilypaw's successful dry-land hunt, Splashwillow had taken the time to talk over the results with Ivyfall, proudly relaying the details of her apprentice's flawless catches during the hunting session. It was then decided that Lilypaw was ready for one of the final milestones in an apprentice's life- the final assessment. Shortly after going over the final details of the major test, the young calico she-cat had informed Lilypaw of her impending test that would take place the following morning.

Even after everything that had transpired over the past few moons, Splashwillow was still confident in her apprentice's abilities to succeed in this assessment. Settling down close to the lazily moving river, the calico warrior neatly wrapped her tail around her small paws as she began to wait for Lilypaw to join her. The sun had just risen and the watery pink sky held promises of a nice cool day- the perfect day for an assessment.

Lilypaw let out a deep breath. Today was the day she'd show her skills. She knew a day this good wouldn't be perfect but she'll bounce right back up and with more determination. The pure white she-cat hurried to where Splashwillow waited. "I'm here." she announced. She gave Splashwillow a confident smile.

"Good." Splashwillow quickly mewed, her face an unreadable mask as spoke, although there was the faintest glimmer of excitement in her gaze. Today could mean that her first apprentice was on the path to finally becoming a Warrior! Swallowing her anticipation, the calico she-cat quickly began to think over everything she had come up when it came to the assessment itself- she hoped it hadn't become overly complicated in all of her planning. "Your assessment is rather simple- I want you to catch four pieces of prey total. Two fish and then two land-dwelling prey of your choice." Splashwillow finally announced, rising to her paws as she spoke. Her gaze briefly flicked to the rapidly brightening sky as she gazed up at the fading lights of Silverpelt. Hopefully they would be kind to them once more.

"Although you will be doing this assessment alone, I will be watching you throughout the majority of this test. If you encounter any sort of foe or issues, I will be nearby to help just in case. Good luck and may StarClan grant you easy hunting." Splashwillow mewed quickly with a hint of sternness before brushing by Lilypaw and vanishing into the reeds, leaving the apprentice alone to begin her assessment.

Lilypaw nodded, hoping everything she had learned was still engraved in her mind somewhere. She watched her mentor disappear. Lilypaw decided to hunt both land animals first. She went closer to the river. Her eyes widened as she scented her first prey. It was a slimy frog. Unfortunately it was close to the river so it could jump in at any time. She decided to leave it and not risk scaring the fish away.

She headed a little down-river. After a few moments of searching, the white furred apprentice came across another frog. The apprentice noticed that this frog wasn't near the body of water. She readied herself to catch it. As she came closer, she also scented another land prey nearby. She'd check that out once she attempts to catch this one. After a few seconds, the she-cat pounced.

She successfuly caught it. She looked around for a place to hide it, just in case any predators decided to steal her prey. She found a large patch of reeds and other plants nearby. She hid it and trecked back to where she scented the other prey.

Splashwillow, who was safely hidden a sizable distance away, watched intently as Lilypaw stalked a frog. Not her favorite thing to eat, but a frog was always an impressive catch considering how quickly they tended to move. Leaning forwards as Lilypaw lunged, the calico warrior found herself giving a quick nod of approval as the white apprentice quickly caught the creature. One down!

Lilypaw was now carefully stalking a mouse. It was a few lengths away from where the frog had been. It was busy munching on some food it held. Lilypaw held her breath as it stopped eating. After a few painfully slow moments, it resumed its activity. Lilypaw quietly let out her breath. She waisted no more time as she pounced on the furry creature.

It ran as fast as its tiny legs could. She shook her head. Clearly it had heard her but she guessed it didn't know when to start running. She smiled to herself. Mice were hard to catch. Maybe a bird would do the trick. The apprentice left and decided to find a bird.

Striding silently after Lilypaw, Splashwillow watched as she began to stalk a mouse. Perhaps catching another mouse without trouble was asking for too much because the little creature somehow managed to escape the white apprentice's grasp. Letting out a little sigh, the calico continued silently after Lilypaw, staying well out of sight.

Lilypaw felt her pelt prickle with anticipation. Her eyes narrowed in concentration. She stood perfectly still as she looked at a bird pecking around. Catching a bird was mostly about precision and how much noise you do. She had to time it perfectly. She swallowed when her throat felt dry. The she-cat readied her haunches. She never lost sight of the bird. 'Starclan help me. Splashwillow, forgive me if I don't catch it.' Her mind was clouded in thoughts. She shook her head and in a second, she pounced.

Her paws missed it by a few. She stood there looking at the place where the bird had just been. Her face held a distressed look. She gave a sad sigh. She straightened up. "Warrirors never give up." she said a little louder than expected. She couldn't waste anymore time now that she knew she had to try multiple times to catch some land creatures. She started to scent another mouse nearby so she made her way to it, a new found determination in her eyes. No matter how much it took her to catch something, she will eventually have to catch something. 'I hope you're not dissapointed in me Splashwillow. I will make you proud for sure.'

Another flash of momentary disappointment resonated within Splashwillow's chest as she watched Lilypaw fail at catching a bird. She knew better than to be hard on the younger she-cat because she knew the difficulty of catching birds, after all who could forget her many failed attempts to catch a bird during her own assessment? Wincing slightly as Lilypaw spoke aloud, Splashwillow dutifully trailed after her apprentice, her amber gaze hopeful.

Lilypaw stalked the mouse quietly. Her hopeful gaze fell upon the tiny creature. She spared no time in trying to catch it. If she caught it, she could move on. If she didn't, she'll hace to keep trying. That's the reason why time cannot be wasted. She let out a suprised yelp when she came face to face with a fat Racoon. She let out a hiss as her fur stood on end. It let out a growl and swiped with its paws. She dodged its attacks and, with all her might, pushed it down and then began to rake her claws on its belly.

The racoon let out a furious growl before pushing the apprentice off of itself.

Splashwillow continued to silently drift after Lilypaw, intently watching as the white apprentice quickly preyed upon a second mouse. Perhaps the second time was the charm? However, before Lilypaw was able to catch the small creature, another animal quickly entered the scene. Raccoon! Apparently they had a problem with these creatures because it was the second time she had encountered the grouchy creature in mere days. Listening to Lilypaw's yelp and eventual hisses, the calico warrior quickly rushed to aid her apprentice in the ensuing battle. Charging from the reeds in an explosive leap, Splashwillow hurled herself in front of the Raccoon's path and crashed into the foul-smelling creature, easily sending the dark furred animal sprawling.


Splashwillow used 'Jumping Strike', Dealing -10 in Damage & Costing -20 in Stamina.
