Necessary Expedition (Open Patrol)

It was dark down here, and a bit tight, but Spiderfur found that the tunnels snaking beneath the heather to be the perfect fit for her. They weren't that far below the ground, if anything happened, digging up would solve the problem. After having her kits, the WindClan she-cat was surprisingly care-free, by her standards. No one had questioned her yet, and Dovepaw and Heavypaw had been apprenticed recently. Dustkit and Hollowkit still spent most of their days playing in camp, but they were getting bigger every day. Perhaps she could spend a day out in - under, rather - the territory, hunting rabbits and hares instead of worrying over them.

She stopped at a fork in the dank tunnels, ears pricked and mouth open. "I-I can smell a r-rabbit this way." Her voice was soft as she turned to the right, satisfied that the trail was getting stronger. She didn't feel cramped at all, although that may be different for the others in the patrol.

Oakpaw looked ahead, noticing that Spider fur seemed to be getting through the tunnels with relative ease. He on the other hand, although an apprentice, was having a hard time in the cramped space. Ears perked, he heard Spiderfur mention a rabbit. "Great," he managed to get out, "this better be worth it." He opened his mouth, and was satisfied that he could scent it too. Squirming, he continued to follow Spiderfur.

Spiderfur nodded. Once she realized she'd done this - while obviously in complete darkness - an embarrassed blush came to her face. The warrior lowered her head and followed the scent until light shined ahead. The scent was strong now. They'd come upon a burrow complex, the closest leading straight to the moors above. Her voice drifted to the apprentice, barely audible. They couldn't alert the rabbits and hares. 'Pick a t-tunnel and try to find m-more. Turn around if y-you don't know wh-wh-what you've found.' She headed into the lair ahead, body low as she slunk, searching for the prey that she was sure lived here. A hare rustling in its nest caught her attention. In an instant she bolted forward, tackling the long-legged creature.

It was far larger than what she had anticipated. The small she-cat, once she realized that this struggle would not end well for her, rushed back into the main area, wondering if Oakpaw had been more lucky.

Oakpaw felt the nimble She-Cat dart off into a tunnel, and opened his mouth. Catching the scent of a rabbit, he followed a it until it reached the surface. Breathing deeply, he embraced the fresh air. Why did he decide to go in the tunnels? It was small, dark, tight... His thoughts trailed off as he sighted the rabbit. He hadn't really learned how to hunt yet, but he crouched and started to sloppily stalk it. He tried to be nimble on his feet, but a few feet away from the small creature, his back leg fell on top of a stick. It snapped in two, sending a loud crack around the area. The rabbit looked up, ears perked, and immediatly sighted him and bolted. Losing all stealth, Oakpaw raced after the rabbit, zigzagging through the moors. Finally, when he knew it was either then or never, he leaped on top of the creature. Grabbing it, he delivered a blow to it's head to finish the creature. Proudly, he grabbed it in his jaws and brought it back to the tunnel area. "Spiderfur!" He called. " I got one!"
