Apprentices being apprentices (Closed for Spottedpelt, Lux, Lightfoot)

Tinypaw walked trough the territory of her clan until she finally gazed the clear river. The young apprentice smiled happy to see it and ran to it. The little she-cat reached the water and jump on it, playfully. She loved the water since her mentor, Whitestream, taught her how to swim. However, her objective wasn't just to play there.
The tiny apprentice waited for the water to settled down and searched with her amber eyes the flash of a silverfish. When she finally saw one, the cat didn't hesitate and with a swift hit, the fish flew above the surface of the water and fell on the earth. Tinypaw soon reached it with her fangs and killed the prey. The Riverclan apprentice was getting better at hunting fish, however, she still needed to practice hunting other kinds of prey, like birds or rodents.
Her ears flicked when he heard the steps of another cat. The smell was from a Riverclan cat that she recognized, so she just waited with the fish on her mouth to say hi to her friend.

The charcoal cat was wondering near to the river of his clan when a familiar scent reached his nose. His tail waved excited and he stepped forward to the place where the little apprentice was.
His green eyes glanced Tinypaw with a fish in her mouth and her black fur wet because of the water. A serious and small smile crossed the face of Batpaw as he went closer to her "Hello, Tiny. Are you doing hunting practice?" She didn't seem to be with her mentor, Whitestream, so he didn't ask about her.

The orange and white she-cat padded through the clearing with her brother at her side. She had yet to go out training with her mentor, but Elmpaw taught her everything he'd learned on his first training excursion, so she was confident she would be able to impress Amberpelt when the time came. She paused for a moment lifting her head and her eyes shown with excitement as two distinct scents drifted to her on the breeze. She looked over at Elmpaw but he was already trotting forward his tail waving in greeting to Tinypaw and Batpaw. She loped to catch up and then pass him before skidding to a stop at the edge of the rive. "Tinypaw! Batpaw! How are you?" She asked flicking her ears forward her nub of a tail twitching above her hips. Orchidpaw opened her mouth and spoke, "Mind if we join you? Elmpaws been teaching me what his mentor showed him since Mine's been too busy to take me out." She said trying to hide the twinge of bitterness in her voice. It was faint...but there.  



The dark brown and white tom felt his heart soar as the scent of Tinypaw touched his tongue. He trotted forward without thinking and lifted his tail in greeting to both Tinypaw and Batpaw. His ears were pricked and his eyes shown. He purred with delight as Orchidpaw dashed past him and he broke into a lope to catch up. He came to a stop at the edge of the water and blinked warmly at Tinypaw for a moment. He felt as though he hadn't seen her since that day they had played in the clearing as kits. That had to be Moons ago now. He flicked his ears toward the fish on the bank and dipped his head Did you catch that? Good job! He seemed to say without speaking. He turned his attention to Batpaw and smiled at the other tom. Orchidpaws voice flicked over them and he glanced at her sensing the hint of Bitterness. He pressed against her and felt her relax. Amberpelt would take her out eventually. Maybe Amberpelt and Fracturedhawk could take them out together.

Tinypaw let the fish fell when he saw how the three apprentices walked to her. She was so happy and her big amber eyes were bright because of the excitement. She first looked at Batpaw and nodded energetically. "Yes! Whitestream taught me everything that I know, but I wanted to practice on my own too." She meowed before turning her attention to the brown tom.
The little apprentice was so happy to see him and her sister, Orchidpaw. "It's so nice to meet you again, guys!" She said to the two siblings. The black she-cat was little sad when the amber she-cat said that her mentor wasn't training her, but when Elmpaw comforted her, she smiled, relieved. At least both of them had each other to be in the good ones and the bad ones. "And I would love if you can join me. Everything is funnier when you are with friends." Then, her amber eyes glanced at Elmpaw, curious "Why don't we try to catch something together, Elmpaw? I'm sure that we'll do a great team of hunting!" She purred waving her tail friendly.

Batpaw blinked surprised when he saw the two siblings arrive. He greeted them with a nod. "Hi, Elmpaw and Orchidpaw. It's good to see you." He meowed friendly to both of them.
He looked how Orchidpaw was a little annoyed because of the lack of activity of her mentor. The dark tom also remembered that Smokeface hadn't been around too much either, but he couldn't deny that at least he showed him the territories and borders of the clans.
When the black she-cat talked to the brown tom and invited him to join her in a team, the apprentice was a little bit jealous, but he didn't show that to his friends. After all, Tinypaw always seemed to make friends so easily, so he had to learn to accept that she would be probably always surrounded by other cats in the future. "Well, I guess that a hunting training would not be so bad. It'll be pretty useful for our clan if we catch something".

Elmpaw

Heart thudding, the brown tom purred at Tinypaws suggestion. He glanced at Batpaw and thought he saw the shadow of jealousy pass over his features, but it was gone so fast he figured he'd imaginied it. He lifted his tail and trotted out into the water to stand beside Tinypaw his pelt brushing hers ever so slightly. The water soaked into his thick fur and he felt it pulling at him drawing him into it's depths.He looked at Orchidpaw and saw the thought pass through her eyes before she spoke it and a competitive edge rose in his chest. He looked at Tinypaw a challenge in his eyes and then he smiled his whisker flicking forward and brushing her cheek just for a breath before he flicked his tail toward the water and looked down waiting to see the first flash of silver.

Orchidpaw

The orange and white she-cat flicked her ears forward hearing Batpaw and Tinypaw. Her eyes gleamed as she thought about Tinypaw's suggestion. She turned and looked at Batpaw whom she considered one of her friends and smiled at him. "Let's make a competition out of it then!" She mewed and trotted toward Batpaw and turned to look at Elmpaw and Tinypaw. She opened her mouth and looked at her three fellow apprentices, "Here's the rules. We work in pairs, each pair must hunt together, and catch as many fish as they can. For a fish to count both cats must touch the fish before the killing bite."
She looked from on friend to the next and felt her fur stand on end. "Which ever team catches the most fish gets to trade of Elder Tick duty." She mewed glancing again at Batpaw. She saw the competitive look in Elmpaws face and flicked her ears waiting for the others to agree.

Tinypaw nodded energetic after hearing about that hunting competition. She was so happy. It was almost like when they were just tiny kits... well, she still was smaller than every cat in that clan but all her friends were all bigger than the last time they played. "That sounds great! Then I guess that I'll team up with Elmpaw because we were in different teams last time..." He looked back at the brown tom to ask him if he was okay with that but he was already preparing to catch his first fish.
The little she-cat stepped a step more far away and she waved her tail to catch Elmpaw attention. "Hey! I will be here, Elmpaw! Throw the fish near to me when you catch one and I'll kill it!" She meowed at the apprentice, ready to start the challenge. This time... she'll surely win this game!
Her bright amber eyes narrowed and the black and white apprentice glanced at Batpaw and Orchidpaw, with a defiant smile. "We start whenever to are ready guys." She said to both of her friends. They seemed like they also would a great team together but Tinypaw was sure that she and Elmpaw could do it better. After all, she really trusted him and could feel like she understood him even when he was not good at speaking. Actually, she only remembered that one time she heard his voice when they were playing and she pushed him with her body to the ground, causing that he expelled the air from his lungs, letting part of his voice escape.

Batpaw soon forgot his jealousy when Orchidpaw started talking about a new competition. The apprentices liked challenges and he loved to hunt fishes. He nodded at his partner with a defiant smile and walked fast to the river, feeling how his paws got wet and looking how some silver flashes swam fast away from him because of the movement of the water.
The dark tom looked at Tinypaw and Elmpaw, who were ready to start the hunting. He smiled to see how happy Tiny was about the game and decided to do his best to make the competition a more enjoyable game for her. However, he wouldn't let them win even if he liked the black she-cat. He and the amber she-cat would surely win. "I'm ready too!" He meowed and then looked back at Orchidpaw. "What about you, Orchid?"

Orchidpaw

The orange and white tailless apprentice smirked at her brought and Tinypaw. The Glare from she she-cat lifting her spirits. They could win this competition. She flicked her ears to hear Batpaw splashing into the water. her attention was gripped by the way the young tom carried himself. He was strong and balanced and sure of himself. She shook her head clearing the thoughts and turned to Tinypaw to hear her speaking with Elmpaw. She wadded out to Batpaw and dropped her voice to a whisper. "Thats a good idea Tinypaw had. You toss them to me and I'll kill them and put them on the shore." She mewed flicking her ears forward and her eyes sparkling with excitement. Without waiting for a reply she leapted a little ways away sending a spray of water toward Tinypaw and shouted. "GO!"

Elmpaw

With a flick of his ear he acknowledged Tinypaws words bbut his eyes were focused on a large silver shape hovering just in front of him about a tail length. If Orchidpaw waited much longer it was dart away. He heard her call and without a moments hesitation dove forward front paws outstretched. With the quick and practiced movement of a fresh apprentice he gripped the slippery fish and hauled it toward him his claws sinking into its flesh. He took a breath and dove for it rising to the surface with it gripped between his jaws. The thrashing of the fish made his head bob up and down and it's tail slapped the surface of the water. He held on tight and waved at Tinypaw before tossing the fish toward her. He hoped it wasn't to big for her to catch. He'd feel terrible if the pretty apprentice got hurt because of him.

Tinypaw chuckled when the splash of Orchidpaw fell on her face. The black she-cat shook her face trying to clear her sight and when she finally saw well, her amber eyes gaze the big fish that was going right to her.
She had a few seconds to react and, with her natural reflects, she opened her mouth and tried to catch the silverfish. However, it was quite big and the strength of the throwing made her almost drop the prey from her jaws because she fell on the water. But Tinypaw didn't leave the fish and fight with it even underwater until it finally died. The she-cat stood up with a smile and threw the animal to the shore of the river, smiling proudly. "We got one!" She meowed loudly, trying to reach the ears of everyone. Her ears perked toward Elmpaw and Tinypaw smirked at him. "We're doing it great! Keep throwing me more!"

Batpaw nodded with a smile after the whispered words of Orchidpaw. She was right and Tinypaw's idea was great and they could use it to catch more fishes than hunting separately.
His eyes watched carefully the calmed surface of the water, searching for any uncareful fish that could be swimming close to his paws. The charcoal cat glanced one and waited patiently for the "go" of his partner. He was ready to put his claws on the fish but Elmpaw was faster than him and when he bit his own prey in the water, the silver animals close to both of them started to swim away quickly. However, Batpaw was determined to not lose his first opportunity, so he ran and leaped toward the closest fish, reaching him with his open mouth. His fur was completely wet because of the fast and clumsy jump, but he was happy that he made it.
The apprentice fought with the still alive prey and threw it to Orchidpaw, hoping that she could kill it before the animal could return to the river. Batpaw glanced back at the unsettled water and waited for it to calm down again so he could hunt another prey soon. He had no time to waste if he wanted to win the game.

Orchidpaw

Water splashed and fish flew into the air. The orange and white tabby she-cat watched Elmpaw toss a decent sized fish to Tinypaw. She was surprised and pleased to see her friend catch it. A large splash turned her attention back to Batpaw, in time to see a silver flash flying at her. She blinked quickly and rose onto her hind paws. She grabbed the thrashing fish and gave it a killing bite before tossing it to the shore. "Go again Batpaw!" She yowled pricking her ears forward and shaking off the water from her pelt.

Elmpaw

The dark brown tom flicked his ears forward and excitement as Tinypaw succeeded in catching the first fish. He turned quickly and dove back at the next fish flashing past his paws. His claws caught on a submerged pebble and he slipped forward missing the fish and completely soaking his pelt. He surfaced sputtering and shook his fur. He paused and took a breath looking back at the water. flicking his ears forward and diving again at another fish this one much smaller. He hooked it with a paw and tossed it toward Tinypaw.

The black and white she-cat watched how the smaller fish flew through the air to her. It wouldn't be so difficult to her to kill it but the problem was that, because it was lighter, the prey was at a higher altitude. Tinypaw noticed that and prepared herself, lowering her hind legs for a jump. She leaped with open jaws and unsheathed claws and, thanks to Whitestream's training, she was able to catch on the air. However, her falling wasn't as good as her jump. The little apprentice didn't think about she would land and she fell clumsily with her face. She didn't leave the fish, who was dying in her jaws, but she was quite dizzy after that falling.
Tinypaw shook her head out of the water and threw like before the dead fish. But this time she wasn't sure if she was going to catch the next one because her vision was blurry after the hit. It didn't hurt so much, so she didn't worry at all and didn't want to preoccupy her friends. "I'm okay! Let's keep going, Elmpaw!"

Batpaw didn't even see if Orchidpaw caught the fish or not because he trusted that she would. After all, she seemed like a perfectly capable hunter.
He saw a fast silver flash swam close to him and the tomcat didn't hesitate a second to jump toward it. This was smaller than the other one but that wasn't a trouble for the ambitious cat. He ran after the fish and caught it with his jaws, closing his mouth around the tail of the prey. It wasn't a good way to pick it up but he hadn't had the time to change the position. So, he shook his head with all his strength, throwing away the slippery fish to the amber she-cat. It was harder than the last one but the charcoal apprentice trusted that his clanmate would kill it.
Batpaw was so concentrated on the game that he didn't saw how Tinypaw fell in the water after her leap.

Orchidpaw

She orange and white she-cat spun back to batpaw just as he dove after the second fish. She caught a glimpse of Tinypaw hitting the water but she trusted that if she needed help Elmpaw could handle it,. Besides she had a challenge to win. The fish Batpaw tossed her was smaller but he'd thrown it by the tail. It was flying at her awkwardly and she lifted herself onto her hind paws and grabbed it out of the air. He landing was clumsy and she almost lost the fish. It splashed and thrashed slapping her with it's tail before she could deliver a killing bite and toss it toward the shore.

Elmpaw

The brown apprentice felt hisheart stop as Tinypaw hit the water. He took a step toward her worry flooding his face as she came back to the surface. Her fur was drenched and she looked a little off. He paused tilting his head to the side and lifting his tail. Are you sure you're okay? he tried to get his concern across through his face and gestures. He took another step forward and the blinked as she spoke. reluctantly he turned back and vowed to keep an eye on her more closely. He'd throw the next one more carefully. He took a breath and looked around his apws. with all the splashing the fish were rapidly disappearing but he was sure he could catch at least one more. His eyes scanned the river and finally landed on a trout dashing past him in an effort to escape Orchidpaws return to the water. He dove after it his claws sinking into it's side as it dashed away. It dragged him through the water for a heartbeat before he dug his paws into the river bottom and yanked the trout back. He coughed and spluttered trying to get the water out of his nose and eyes. He could still hear Tinypaw and tossed he fish as gently as he could in her direction. Hoping he made it.
