Pebble for an Egret {Closed for Dimmeh}

Pebblekit woke up to the pale morning sky, and excitement flitted through her. Pebblekit and Egretkit had finally aged enough to go outside the nursery! "Egretkit wake up!" she mewed padded to the opposite side of the den, where Egretkit's nest was.

Egretkit got up, paws shaking violently. He stamped them down again, veiling his quandary. He yawned, smiling faintly at his friend, and shook out his tabby pelt. "Alright," he purred. Embossing a crenel in his mossy nest, he prepared to follow Pebblekit. He brushed his long tail across her flank unintentionally. The tiny tom peered out of a fissure in the walls of the nursery, his prat wriggling with excitement. Pebblekit never taunted his jarring paws. Egretkit was thankful for that. "You ready?" Egretkit grinned.

"I was ready before you!" She mewed, she led the way to the exit to the den, and the moment she stepped into the clearing her eyes lit up.

Egretkit dashed out, stopping by Pebblekit's side, laughing. "Whoa..." he shrilled. The camp was huge. He exchanged a mystified glance with Pebblekit. It was chronic, enlongated to either side with marshy areas patching it. He raised his paw again, and as it shook, he tilted forwards. The air was fresh. When he was supine in the nursery, with Pebblekit nudging him awake, he would have never thought of exploring. But now... now he did. Egretkit's eyes sparkled.

"Why don't we go to the elder's first? I bet they have the best stories!" she mewed bounding to the den next to them. A large tom growled "Hey! Get out of the way!" at Pebblekit. She stalked back. "That was NOT the Elder's den!"

"Nope... definitely not!" joked Egretkit. He goosed his muzzle, tasting the air with his scent glands. Only the familiar smell of ShadowClan. "Let's go... well..." he said indecisively. He just let his paws lead him. He drifted past the apprentices' den, before committing a volte-face into the shadowy hollow. Wow... is this where we'll be sleeping in a few moons? wondered Egretkit. He then turned towards Pebblekit. "Cool, ain't it?" he tried. The banded tomkit licked a paw, trying to stabilize it for a short time. This proved ablutionary very difficult.

Pebblekit seemed to not hear his question, and instead traced her way to the Fresh-kill pile "Woah! So many amazing scents leading to tasty prey, in one huge heap!" she meow

Egretkit glided past Pebblekit, then stopped, mouth watering. "One day I'll try some of this stuff... today," said Egretkit grandly. His paws trembled as he prodded a bird. It was graded alongside a variety of other, hematic animals. "I think we could have one..." remarked Egretkit, eyes rounded. He brandished his tail. He pulled one out tentatively, and gridlocked when it was in front of Pebblekit. "Let's share!" declared Egretkit. It was a plump, rotund vole. He nibbled it. "Oh, yeah! It tastes a little funny, but it's alright!" he said, turning to Pebblekit. He crouched beside his long-furred friend.

Pebblekit nibbled the vole, paused, and then purred with delight while she began gobbling down her share

Egretkit gormandized his side of the vole, his eyes glittering tastefully. "Oh, Pebblekit!" mewed Egretkit, after swallowing a mouthful of vole that, indubitably, was too big for him. "This is so good!" The tabby tom licked his chops. His body rocked. That fresh-kill was so palatable! Surely there's more, thought Egretkit, scouting past his friend.
