Subject: Emberpaw's Warrior Ceremony Wed 29 Mar 2017 - 19:52
"L-Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather u-underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" Never in his life did Magpiewing expect to be standing on the Jaggedrock, reciting those words. Oh, he dreamed of it. From the day he was old enough to meet his grandfather to the day the twolegs invaded, the black tom had always wanted to follow Thrushstripe's pawsteps.
But as he grew older things changed. He accepted his place in the clan with a smile. He didn't think in his lifetime he would ever see the clan from this view. Was it nepotism? Was it his friendship with Leopardstar that earned him this title? The black tom wasn't special in any sense. Yes, he was loyal, he was experience, he was a fine example of a good warrior. But did that make him worthy?
He hesitated on the Jaggedrock. Leopardstar, only a few suns into his leadership, had sprained his paw. Honeydrop advised him against climbing the rock for ceremonies. And so here Magpiewing was. Performing his first task as deputy of ShadowClan.
Emberpaw slowly got out of the apprentice den and approached the deputy, which was helding another ceremony. She was pretty sure that ceremony was for her, because she was the only apprentice who ended her training so long and there were no old enough kits at the moments. Trying not to remember hard training and awfull asssessment she looked into the Magpiewing, which looked very unsure. It was obvious that it was his first ceremony. Happy about this fact, because everyone making ceremony had always in his mind his first made ceremony.
Magpiewing felt a lump in his throat rise as Emberpaw padded up towards him. Swallowing loudly, the tom rose his somewhat shaky voice. "T-Tonight we gather to make this apprentice a warrior," the black deputy called, nevoursness clear in his voice. "Emberpaw, please step forward." Each word felt foreign to him, despite having heard it more times than he could count. He couldn't shake the anxiety in his body away. If only someone could be there to comfort him. Leopardstar, why did you have to sprain you paw...
Emberpaw steped forward with deep and fast breathing. She recognized that she was so tensed as Magpiewing which was helding the ceremony. But this fact didn´t calm her. It was good when her mother arrived, and Emberpaw immediately become more proud, because she had to be good daughter, cause Wolfgang leaved them, when she almost killed medicine cat of ShadowClan.
The tom took a deep, solid breath before closing his eyes. "I, Magpiewing, d-deputy of ShadowClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in turn." Inhaling quickly, the black deputy opened his eyes and looked at the apprentice. "Emberpaw, do you promise to uphold the w-warrior code, and t-to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life...?" Where had his nerves gone in this crucial moment?
Emberpaw said proudly: "I do!" At that moment she forgot all bad things and she remembered all good ones. She remembered how happy she was ,when she figured out that Larksong was not going to die because of the badger attack. She remembered her birth. She remembred her apprentice ceremony. She remembered Gatherings...
A small sigh of relief escaped the deputy's lips. This was the end. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name."
Wait. Her name. What was her warrior name going to be? "Emberpaw, from this day forward you shall be known as..." She needed a name! Magpiewing froze in spot, his mind raking for ideas. The leader was the one who presented the apprentice with their name. He had always assumed StarClan gave them a sign, or a clue as to what their name should be. B-but he had never heard anything from StarClan in his life. Was he qualified to do this?
As the silence grew and he could see cats becoming antsy, he looked up towards the horizon for clues. A bird swooping down to catch their prey. Emberswoop? Emberwing? No, those weren't right. A frog leaping across lilypads. Emberleap? Even worse.
A leaf falling from a tree. Embertree? Emberleaf? What about...
"F-Fall... Emberfall." The name surprised even himself. But as he looked down at the clan, he realized that it sounded right. With a startled jump he quickly finished the ceremony. "S-ShadowClan honours your, um... enthusiasm and loyalty." With that he swiftly jumped from the rock and akwardly pressed his muzzle down on the new warrior's. "C-Congratulations."
Emberfall smiled when deputy finally said her name. It was beautifull. She was always thinking about which name should she got, but all those names, that she was thinking aboout, were weird names. This was beautifull. Emberfall...
Hazeflight smiled and gently Nuzzled her daughter. "Emberfall! Emberfall!" she yowled her voice full of pride as she gazed upon her calico daughter. She was so proud of Emberfall.
