Memories Stirred - A Hawk Reborn [OPEN]

As Hawkkit padded out of the Nursery, her mother close at her heels, she looked around the camp in awe. She had been old enough to be out of the nursery for some time now but her mother had kept her in for fear of upsetting some of the elders.

Young Hawkkit was the spitting image of her Great-Grandmother, Hawkfeather. Though the Windclan Queen had died many many moons ago anyone who had known her still felt the loss as she had been a very loving and kind cat. Though neither of her parents had noticed Sparrowfeather, Hawkfeather's daughter and Hawkkit's Grandmother, had burst into tears at the sight of the kit.

Now, a three moon-old Hawkkit frolicked around the camp looking at everything in awe as her mother and Grandmother sat at the Nursery entrance, chatting as they watched Hawkkit.

Hawkkit turned and giggled at Quietkit as she seemed to rush to get all her words out at once. "Hiya Quietkit!" Letting out another giggle Hawkkit nodded. "Yeah you definitely don't match your name. Don't worry though! I'm sure when you get your warrior name it'll match better!" Hawkkit's eyes shifted away from Quietkit to follow the descent of a leaf towards the ground before she quickly looked back at Quietkit, bouncing in place a bit as she gasped. "Oh! My name's Hawkkit!"

She flicked her ears toward the she-cat as she spoke and smiled. "Nice to meet you" She mewed and flicked her tail. She was smaller and younger than the kit before her but she wasn't about to let that matter to her. She reached out and touched Hawkkits shoulder with her paw. Her eyes flashed with amusement and playfulness for a heartbeat before she turned and scampereed away yowling over her shoulder "You're it! Bet you can't catch me!" She churned her tiny kit paws and raced around the clearing kicking up snow.

As Quietkit touched her shoulder and then bolted off Hawkkit's eyes lit up with joy and excitement and she let out a sound of mock outrage. Laughing she chased after the other kit, making sure she didn't go as fast as she could since she wanted the game to last longer.

After chasing Quietkit around camp two or three times Hawkkit ounced on top of Quietkit. "You're it!!!" Jumping off the slightly smaller kit, Hawkkit ran away.

She yowled as she was pounced on by the other kit. She tucked and rolled scrambling to her paws and turning toward the other kit. Hawkkit was already running away She scrunched up her nose and took off after the other kit. She chased her, her tiny legs pumping and churning up the snow behind her. Her tail lashed and swiveled as she flew around the edge of the clearing slipping on the wet ground. She flicked her ears forward and her deep blue eyes focused on the hips of the kit in front of her. She cut to the right and pushed off one of the rises in the ground through the clearing. She tucked her front paws under her chest and sailed through the air. As she neared the other kit she stretched out her paws and landed on top of Hawkkit. She tumbled to the ground and let out a mrrow of laughter panting. [b]"That was fun. What do you wanna do now?" She asked flicking her whiskers forward in a smile.

Hawkkit hadn't even expected the other kit to leap at her and so at the unsuspecting impact Hawkkit let out a surprised yowl that quickly transitioned into laughter as she rolled back onto her paws. "Wow! That was so cool! When you become a warrior they should name you Quietflight! Oh! Or Quietleap!" Hawkkit eyes brightened, like they did often, and Hawkkit started bouncing up and down. "Oh! Let's pick warrior names and pretend we're warriors!"

Quietkit

She mrrowed with laughter and then leapt to her paws nodding at Hawkkit. She wrinkled her nose a little as the other kit spoke [s]"-they should name you Quietflight! Oh! Or Quietleap!"[/s] Quietleap and Quietflight were okay names but she wanted something stronger, fiercer. She flicked her tail and thought for a moment coming up with the best name she could. "I want to be Quietstrike! You should be..." She paused flicking her ears forward and looking the other kit over, "Hawkwind! because your so fast." She said matter-of-factly before turning her attention to the surrounding clearing. Her eyes landed on a leaf on the ground and she dropped into a crouch her tail straight up in the air. [b]"We're on a hunting patrol and THAT is a mouse" She mewed befoere beginning to stalk toward it.

Hawkkit shrugged as Quietkit disapproved of her name options and chose a new one, the smile never leaving her face as the other she-kit also picked a name for her. When Quietkit also picked a game Hawkkit bounced a bit in excitement. "Okay!" Crouching down Hawkkit creeped forward, her paws placed carefully and most of her body low to the ground. Her form would have been considered good if not for the fact that she sill had her butt high in the air with her tail lashing back and forth above her.

She heard more than saw Hawkkit drop into a crouch. She flicked her tail to the right and whispered over her shoulder. " I'll go around to the left and you to the right. I'll chase it into your paws." she mewed flicking her ears forward before edging around the leaf to the left. She slunk along the ground her tail still straight up in the air. She slowly got into position and with a ferocious growl she raced forward. She swiped the leaf forward sending it fluttering toward where she had told Hawkkit to go. She hadn't even looked to see is the other kit was prepared. She could be bossy and obnoxious that way.

Hawkkit had nodded, suddenly very serious, and stalked to the right of the leaf at Quietkit's orders. Once she was in position Hawkkit crouched in wait, watching the leaf with extreme concentration.

When Quietkit growled and rushed forward, batting the leaf into the air, Hawkkit sprung up. Stretching her paws forwards she hooked the leaf under paws and then pulled it down to the ground with her, landing on top of it.

Very much in the moment, Hawkkit immediatly bit the leaf, only to grimace and step away from the leaf quickly, wiping her tongue with her paw. "Ew!!!!"

Her blue eyes followed the glorious leap and landing of her new friend. She flicked her ears forward as Hawkkit completed the move with a bit to the leaf. Obviously she regretted that bit. Quietkit purred and stepped forward her eyes flashing with delight. " That was an awesome leap!" She said with enthusiasm. She cast around the clearing flicking her eyes toward the entrance. "I bet we could catch some real prey.". She looked back at Hawkkit, mischief dancing in her eyes. Fur fluffed up against the cold, Quietkit wanted to go into the territory. She wanted to leave the clearing. She was ready. Who cares about the stupid rules. I bet we can catch some prey for the clan.

Hawkkit looked up, her eyes bright with excitement. "Yeah?" Giggling she straightened up with pride and hopped forward. "I bet we could catch some real prey." Hawkkit frowned and tilted her head to the side. "But how would we do that? We aren't allowed outside of camp and no prey is stupid enough to walk into camp..."

Her eyes had turned back to the camp entrance, she could see the well worn path through the bramble barrier and knew that they could slip through, likely unseen and strike out into the unknown territory surrounding them. Of course she'd heard the stories of what happened to kits that disobeyed, forced to stay a kit forever, never allowed to become a warrior but she hardly believed them. Her ears flicked backwards as Hawkkit spoke [s]"But how would we do that? We aren't allowed outside of camp and no prey is stupid enough to walk into camp..."[/s] She sighed in exasperation and her tail tip twitched impatiently before she turned back toward Hawkkit. "Of course no prey is that stupid, mousebrain." She rolled her eyes and turned back toward the entrance. "No one is watching and if we bring back prey for the clan who could scold us?" She glanced once toward the nursery and then back at Hawkkit. "Or you can stay here and I'll bring back prey for the clan" There was a nasty tartness to her words. Of course she didn't want to go alone, but she didn't want to stay here either. And with that she padded softly forward walking quickly and deliberately toward the entrance to the camp. Not once glancing back to see if Hawkkit was following, though she desperately wanted to.

Hawkkit was conflicted, wanting to go with her new friend but also not wanting to disappoint her parents. As Quietkit padded towards the camp entrance Hawkkit hesitated for a moment and then started to pad after her slowly.

Just as she caught up and the two reached the camp entrance Hawkkit heard her grandmother, Sparrowfeather, call out to her and then her mother. "Hawkkit! What are you doing over there?" Hawkkit flinched and turned to look at her mother, who had quickly crossed the camp, and her grandmother following behind her. "Um..." Hawkkit gulped and looked over at Quietkit nervously, not knowing what to say.
