Hunting With Family [Closed]

It was only a few sunrises after their previous border patrol but Mottleheart had decided that it was time for another adventure from the camp with his daughter. This time, their goal would be getting prey for the Clan. He sat just outside of the camp, his tail wrapped around his paws as he let the gentle breeze of the moor wash over him as he waited. He couldn't figure out how the other Clans survived under branches or between reeds and muck as to him, the solid open air was all that he needed and even the trees at Fourtrees made it unbearable to be there at times. He needed the fresh, wild open air and the room to stretch his paws. Luckily today would give him plenty of time to do so as he and Raccoonpaw would be chasing rabbits across the moor. What better why was their to bond then to be running across the moor together while also providing for their Clan?

The brown and white apprentice raced out of the camp, hoping her father didn't go to far without her, but as soon as she saw him sitting just outside, she skidded to a halt, her chest moving slightly from the small run she did but she wasn't too winded. "What are we doing today father?" She asked calmly. She was a windclan cat after all, running didn't get to her that much.

Mottleheart blinked as Raccoonpaw came racing up, getting to his paws as he dipped his head in greetings. "We'll be doing some hunting today," he explained as he started down the hill and into the moor proper. He led Raccoonpaw in the direction of Highstones and the abandoned barn in hopes of finding an area that wasn't often traveled and thus bogged with the scent of his Clanmates. He wanted to find an area that the prey would perhaps think as safe in hopes of them being plentiful. Once he found that locate, they could start hunting.

Oh hunting! She was good at that since she had a lot of speed. Her small size helped her with keeping up with even the fastest rabbits. "Alright!" She said, and then followed her father to the location that was clearer. "I'm ready when you are." She told her father.

Mottleheart came to a stop as he found the perfect locate, the scent of WindClan there but faint while the scent of prey was almost a bit overwhelming. This would be a good hunting ground granted they could catch the prey, not that he had doubts in his or his daughter's ability. He glanced at Raccoonpaw as she spoke up, giving her a soft, quick nod as he tasted the air. "Lets try to get two or three prey each, alright?" he said before waving his tail in a silent order to go their separate ways.

He tasted the air, trying to pick out the closest scent as he padded away from Raccoonpaw. The scent of rabbit and hares were tempting to go for but his attention became totally focused when he spotted a pheasant. Surprised to see such a large bird, he dropped into a crouch as he stalked forward on silent paws, his eyes narrowed in focus. A pheasant would feed WindClan well...Granted he could catch it. He was far use to hunting down rabbits and hares but he was worth a try. Getting a close as he dared, he pushed off and sprinted across the moor at the large bird. The bird took notice of him the moment the tom sprinted but it was far to late - Mottleheart's speed allowing him to be on top of the bird before it could even spread its wings in an effort to get away. A quick bite later and it was dead. Pride flushed through the tom as he carefully picked it up, heading back to where he had left Raccoonpaw. Noticing a small hole not far from them, he gently laid the dead body of the pheasant within to hopefully keep any hawks or eagles spotting it. Once sure that it was safe, he turned and headed back out into the moor for some more hunting.

Raccoonpaw watched as her father went of in a direction. Him catching something over there would mean the prey would be scared so she would be better going off in another direction. She opened her mouth and scented the air. A rabbit.. That shouldn't be much of a challenge for her! She could easily catch it.

As soon as she saw the fast little creature, she dashed off after it, her claws trying to grab the brown rabbit. As soon as her claws got into the rabbit, she strengthened her grip tumbling with the rabbit, and swiftly putting an end to it's life, thanking Starclan for the food. She quickly carried the rabbit back and added it with her father's catch.

Mottleheart eyes were narrowed as he let his gaze sweep over the moor, his ears perked as he tried to locate another piece of prey. He could scent them but was having trouble locating them until there was a rustle followed by movement in the corner of his gaze. He quickly locked onto it, spotting a hare darting across the moor. Without a moment of hesitation, he bolted after the racing hare. The hare was fast, sure, but Mottleheart quickly out-paced it and with a mighty leap, pinned it to the ground and ended its life. He headed back to where he had stored the pheasant, surprised to find a dead rabbit in the hole as well. He purred, pleased that Raccoonpaw had managed to catch the rabbit and had found where he had hidden the pheasant. Dropping the hare into the slowly growing pile, he turned and headed back in hopes of catching one more piece of prey.

She needed to catch two more right? Maybe just one more? She wasn't sure. Raccoonpaw went out another direction, moving steadily across the moor, she didn't want to disturb anything. Her green eyes scanned the area and soon saw a bird. A simple robin pecking at the ground. She crept forward, a hope burning in her chest. She needed to catch this. If she wanted to prove her hunting skills.. Once she was close enough she lept on it.

Sadly the bird was faster than she was. Her paw met nothing but solid ground as the bird took to the air and flew away. She let out a small growl frustrated with herself.

It didn't take long for Mottleheart to locate his next target - a lone lapwing. His eyes narrowed as he dropped into a crouch, stalking forward as he made sure to stay downhill and out of sight. He was forced to stop his sneaking when he came to a point where the only thing between him and the lapwing was flat, empty ground. With narrowed eyes, he pushed off of the ground and sprinted toward the bird. The lapwing noticed him and with a cry it started to flap its wing in an effort to take off. Mottleheart's eyes widen as he bunched his muscles and leaped - hitting the bird squre on as it attempted to gain height. They crashed to the ground, Mottleheart wincing from the hard landing but quickly finished off the bird before it could make another escape. He sighed in relief, getting to his paws before picking it up and heading back to the prey pile. Feeling proud of his three pieces of prey, he started to pull out the small pile to get it ready for him and Raccoonpaw to bring back to camp, keeping his ears perked for when his daughter returned.

She needed to catch another. She couldn't go back with just one piece of prey. The brown and white apprentice looked around, scenting a hare while she was at it. It was pretty fast but she could do it. She didn't doubt herself there. Quietly she got within distance of the hare. As soon as it saw her, she took off after it chasing it down just like the other one.

She caught the hare just like the other one. Not caring about the dust that covered her fur from tumbling into the ground catching the hare. She picked up the rabbit and padded back to her father, ready to go back to camp.
