A Copper Hued Finch [Closed]

There was a small laugh as he took note of both of his apprentices reacting in disgust at the scent. "That isn't WindClan you are smelling," he explained with a chuckle, shaking his head. While WindClan did have a strange smell, it wasn't disgusting. If anything, it was RiverClan with their fishy smell that smelled the worst out of the Clans. "What you smell is the Thunderpath and the Monsters that roam it. Monsters release a terrible scent everywhere they go, most likely to mark their own territory. Because the fact that we are almost surrounded by the Thunderpath, it will be a bit of a challenge for you to learn ThunderClan and WindClan's scents but if you get to know them at a Gathering, you can learn how to pick them up even with the terrible scent." With a jerk of his head, he turned and started to led them down the length of the Thunderpath, heading to where it turned to the ThunderClan border. In the corner of his gaze as he led them down, he saw the four trees of Fourtrees and dipped his head in that direction. "That there is Fourtrees, where the Gathering takes place every full moon."

Copperpaw had an adventure before he was found by Smokestripe and welcomed into the clan by his leader, but he didn't remember ever seeing a 'monster' in his life. He wasn't sure how to picture them, other than that they had that terrible stench that he couldn't get off the tip of his tongue or get it out of his nose. "Have you ever seen a monster on this path before?" Copperpaw asked curiously.

He turned his sea green eyes onto Smokestripe as he spoke. Monsters? He thought tilting his head. He had heard about them from his parents during one of the stories in the nursery, but he couldn't remember much about them. He turned back toward the thunderpath padding slowly towards it, the scent sending a wave of nausea through him. He ignored it and came to the edge of the thunderpath. The hard black surface looked like nothing he'd seen before. He reached out a paw and placed it tenderly on the edge. It couldn't exactly be rock, because it wasn't cold to the touch. The sun seemed to have warmed it long before the surrounding territory could feel the heat. It almost seemed to give off a heat of it's own. He tilted his head puzzled, as it began to growl at him. A rumbling that started deep under his outstretched paw and made him tremble with apprehension. The feeling flooded him but he couldn't move. He was enthralled. part of him wanted to see one of these monsters. Part of him dared one to run down the path. He flicked his ears back as Copperpaw spoke "Have you ever seen a monster on this path before? The other apprentice had asked. Finchpaw kept his ears turned backwards hoping to hear Smokestripes reply, but suddenly the growling that had started under the ground filled his ears. Roaring with an intensity he never thought possible. The scent returned with a new strength. It was overwhelming him, suffocating him, His senses filled with the Thunderpath the feel of it the sound, the smell. He Pinned his ears against his head trying to block out the nose when a huge shape thundered down on him, racing toward him. It's black paws thrumming on the surface so fast they were a blur, It's eyes blank and staring, seemed to reach out and hold him in place. HIs eyes widened in fear and he pulled his paw back from the edge dropping into a fearful ball and closing his eyes. He shook and shook digging his claws into the ground. All he could hear was the thundering roar of the monster, for he knew that's what it had been.

It's like the monster was answering Copperpaw's question before Smokestipe could because only a split second after he asked the rumbling of the monster shook the black pavement as its black paws moved across it. Copperpaw was usually curious and amazed with things he saw, but all he could do was stare just like Finchpaw. He was frozen, speechless.

Smokestripe took a step back as the monster roared past, quelling any chance to give a response to Copperpaw. His ears fell flat, letting out a small growl as he stepped in front of his two apprentices without much of a thought to shield them but the monster went pass without any incident like always. Once they were in the clear, he shook his head as he moved to shove them away from the path and away from the border. "A bit late on your question but yes, I have seen monsters before...I've also seen what they can do to a cat," he added in a softer voice, shaking his head as he started to lead them toward Fourtrees and the ThunderClan border. "Finchpelt, the father to one of my best friends was killed on the Thunderpath a few moons ago," he explained, his voice devote of emotion as he did his best not to dwell on those sicking memories. "The Thunderpath is a very dangerous place, do not tread on it lightly."

OOC: Sorry for taking so long, fell into a little period of no posting due to some bad news. Getting back into the swing of posting however. We can try to wrap this up quick.

Finchpaw

Slowly the young tom opened his eyes and his shaking stopped. His nose was filled with the acrid stench of monsters. He rose to his paws and scrambled back from the edge of the thunderpath. He flicked his ears and turned to see Smokestripe padding away from him, apparently unconcerned that he'd been almost run over by a cursed monster. He flicked his tail and trotted after his mentor glancing at Copperpaw. At the thought of a cat being squashed by one of those evil thing he shuddered. He put on a burst of speed and loped up beside Smokestripe. "I don't ever want to go anywhere near that place again." He mewed shaking out his pelt.
