Larkpaw's Assessment [closed]

Once again, the tom continued to follow the apprentice, curious as to why the prey was being so stubborn tonight. Must be the cold, he concluded.

Larkpaw moved slowly to the Carrionplace, her whiskers twitching in annoyance at the fact that she kept failing to catch prey. Was her first catch just random luck or something? She sighed softly, wishing that she was having better luck - she wanted to become a warrior and to do that meant to pass this assessment. She blinked when she spotted a frog, having been so wrapped up in her bitterness that she had failed to scent it. Before she could even think about crouching and stalking it, it spotted her and hopped away causing her to sigh softly to herself as she shook her head and kept moving forward.

(Yada yada), Mudfoot followed the apprentice even more, a bit disappointed in the low amount of prey that she was catching. Larkpaw was a great apprentice but maybe today was just not her day, for he didn't believe that she had ever missed this much prey before...

OOC: Why. Why do the dice hate me this much.

IC: Larkpaw's ears were folded back on her head as she moved forward slowly, her mouth open as she did her best to pay attention to the scent of prey. She blinked as she caught the hint of lizard, taking in a deep breath as she crouched down and moved forward. Locating it, she got ready to pounce as she did her best to judge the distance but it seemed she had judged wrong. Her moons a kittypet had dampened her skills and while she did her best not to let it show - they still weren't at their peak. She landed just short of the lizard, she landed a bit rough, allow the lizard to escape before she had time to recover. She watched as it scurried away, her mouth open with shock but it quickly turned to a scowl as she slashed at the snow beneath her with a sharp hiss.

"Mouse dung!" Her voice was rough, filled with emotion. How could be doing so badly? She wanted to be a warrior - to prove to herself and her Clan that she could be the cat she wanted to be. But how could she when she was failing so badly at hunting? She stared at her paws, her whole body quivering as she fought the urge to just give up and call it a night. So many prey had escaped, it was so tempting to call it quits but...No. She took a deep breath, her eyes narrowed. She was going to do it - no matter how many attempts it took. She took a deep breath and moved further into the Carrionplace, planning only to return when she had her four pieces of prey.

IC: Following Larkpaw, Mudfoot let out a sigh, almost ready to give up if she didn't catch any prey soon.

Larkpaw's eyes were narrowed, new determination flashing through her body as she trekked though the Carrionplace. Her mouth was half open, taking in deep breaths as she worked hard to find new prey. Then it hit her, the faint traces of a frog. She dropped into a couch, quickly moving forward as she located it among the rubble. She spotted it and took a deep breath, hoping that she would not fail this catch. Slowly she moved forward, judging his distance but this time taking in her last failure in. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she uttered a soft prayer to StarClan before leaping. Her claws sank into the skin of the frog, it squirming for a quick second before she killed it with a quick blow. She had done it, a second piece down. A smile flooded onto her face as she lowered her head, uttering another prayer to StarClan before she buried the piece and headed off, the bright fire of determination flooding her body with her catch. Two down, two to go.

Watching as Larkpaw caught a piece of prey, Mudfoot wanted to cheer from joy but quickly shut his jaw. Don't want to lower her chances even more. the tom thought to himself, continuing to trot after the apprentice happily.

Larkpaw moved slowly though the Carrionplace, having spotted a frog as she tracked it. Her tail flickered as she dropped into a couch, aiming her jump before leaping. She hit the frog but before she could dig her claws in, it squirmed out of her grasp. She gasped as she lashed out, attempting to catch it but it was already hopping away out of reach. She stood up with a twitch of her whiskers but shrugged with a faint shake of her head. A miss like that didn't phase her - it had been so close and she had forgotten how slippery they could be. So, she turned and went searching for another piece of prey.

Letting out a yawn, Mudfoot watched as Larkpaw missed another piece of prey. Maybe next time, he wanted to say but stayed quiet.

Larkpaw had only walked a bit when she came to a stop, her ear twitching as she realized that the sound of the frog hopping away had stopped. She glanced behind her at the frog that had just escaped from her only to see that it was seemingly unfazed by its close brush with death - just sitting there in the snow. She frowned slightly before it turned into a smile, turning around as she dropped into a couch. Why should she let such a stupid piece of prey live? She was sure she could catch it this time. She drew forward slowly, step by step as she watched the frog with narrowed eyes. Aiming once more, she leaped and was ready - her claws sinking in the moment her paws brushed against the frog. In an instance, it was dead. Three down, a single piece to go.
