Owl the Outlaw [closed]

Padding through the forest with the group of apprentices, Mudfoot led the patrol towards the Carrion place. Around a moon or so ago, Owlstrike had been banished. His own son had broken the warrior code and upon committing treason was no longer in the clan. He'd gone behind his clan-mate's backs, lied, and now that him and his group of lackeys were gone, Mudfoot felt an odd sense of calm wash over the camp. Though in the begging he had no idea his son was committing crimes against the Warrior Code, he'd always suspected something out of the ordinary was up and some nights he wasn't able to sleep, constantly worried about the clan's safety.

Of course the warrior was heartbroken that his son would do such a thing and hate him so much, but in the end, there was nothing he could have done. Owlstrike had chosen the wrong path and though he could've lived a long and peaceful life, the younger tom chose to follow the darkness that crept through the shadows.

So here he was, walking through the dense forest with half of the clan's apprentices at his side. Most of them seemed pretty eager to patrol in general and although it was in fact just an average patrol, Mudfoot wasn't going to tell them the real reason they were out here, to make sure Owlstrike wasn't still around.

Larkpaw followed after her brother, her nose scrunched up at the scent of the Carrionplace as they drew closer to it. While she had grown accustomed to the scent of the ShadowClan territory - she was left unsure if she could ever get use to the smell of the Carrionplace again. She shook her head with a flicker of her tail, her gaze flickering toward Mudfoot. While this just a simple patrol, she had wanted a breath of fresh air and knew the only way she was truly going to get it was if she was with Mudfoot so that the warrior could still 'keep an eye' on her. She only wished his breath of fresh air wouldn't be walking by the Carrionplace of all places.


Smokepaw followed after Mudfoot, casting a wary glance toward Larkpaw as the she-cat strolled next to him. He wasn't sure what to think of the she-cat. He wasn't sure who she was and while he had heard that she was once a ShadowClan apprentice - she sure didn't smell like one when she had first joined the Clan. But Mudfoot seemed content with her around and that made Smokepaw feel better. He looked up to the older warrior and loved going on patrols with him - it was the reason he had decided to come so quickly. He wasn't sure what they were doing but it was fine - it seemed like a normal border patrol or something and he didn't want to ask questions. He was just going to follow.

Blazepaw followed after her mentor, excited to be on a patrol. She bounced with excitement, not being able to contain it. She was focused intently on the patrol, and was hoping for peace.

Shadepaw strolled along behind the patrol, his thick fur fluffed out to prevent the chill from creeping in. He watched as Blazepaw bounced eagerly- oh how fun it used to be whenever he was still first apprenticed and learning the territory. Shadepaw's eyes drifted to Smokepaw and Larkpaw, privately agreeing with the wary way that Smokepaw eyed Larkpaw- something about her didn't make him entirely uncomfortable, but if Thrushstar trusted her enough to allow her back into the Clan, then he would go along with his leaders decision. Opening his jaws to inhale for any scents, his belly rumbled as he caught the scent of rat drifting from the Carrionplace- prey was scare enough for Shadowclan to start scavenging for rats again. "Do we have time to stop and hunt? I could do with a rat or two to fill my belly!" Shadepaw called to Mudfoot, eyeing the surrounding territory eagerly- there would be plenty of prey near here.

It had been some time since the last time Owlstrike had come around the Carrionplace, but the lack of prey around the territory and the fact he had to give up some of the few pieces of prey he had managed to hunt before to fulfill his plans had left him in quite a bad position, forcing him to return to this foul smelling place with hopes of finding something edible between the carrion or a healthy rat or two for him to hunt. Lafbare had been many things but kind to the exiled cat, whose had lost a fair amount of weight and the only thing that kept him from looking miserable was the somewhat thick fur he had, which made him look healthier than he really was.

He spotted some movement not far from where he stood, and in his hunger-driven actions he immediately went to investigate. However, instead of the rat he expected to find, as soon as he turned around a small pile of carrion he found himself standing in front of what he guessed was a hunting patrol led by none but Mudfoot, his own father. It was way too late to take precautions, and only a fool would hope that they hadn’t spotted him. Growling and unsheathing his claws, he glared at the brown warrior, refusing to run away from the larger group like most rogues would’ve done in his place.

Walking a little in front of the apprentices, Mudfoot didn't really pay attention to their conversations, still lost in thought. Per usual, he was getting worked up for nothing and although he was nervous for the future, the tom stayed quiet. It was his job to help these apprentices become warriors, not fill their heads with crazy notions and worries.

Before long, the patrol reached the Carrionplace, finally. The group of cats weren't yet in the fenced in place and stood outside of the weird barrier that disconnected them from the rotting Twoleg items. Unfortunately for them, the smell wasn't stopped by the silver vines and wrinkling his nose, he wished that this place didn't smell so bad.  Flicking his tail back and forth and trying not to show his nervousness, Mudfoot turned around to face the crowd of smaller cats. "Okay, we are finally here," he started. "Today, we're going to-" swiveling his ears back and forth, the tom stopped mid sentence. Someone was here, someone not wanting to be seen.

Giving a single flick of his tail, he motioned to the apprentices to stay quiet. Turning back around, Mudfoot took a step forward, mud that wasn't yet frozen squishing between his paw pads. Looking to his left, there was nothing and slowly scanning his forest, he moved his head to the right and at the sight he saw, he immediately fluffed up his fur. "Owlstrike," the tom let out a low growl, baring his teeth and unsheathed his claws. What was his son doing here? He was supposed to be gone!

The usually calm and composed warrior was suddenly filled with anger and rage towards his son and he would show no mercy if I fight broke out, which would most likely be the case. "What are you doing, you shouldn't be here." At this point, he didn't care what happened to that foxheart of a cat and if he had to chase out his own son, so be it.

Larkpaw came to a stop, unaware of how Smokepaw and Shadepaw were glancing at her with distrust. Her ears perked when Mudfoot spoke up, ready to go hunting but frowned when he suddenly cut himself off and flickered his tail at the group. What was going on? She watched the warrior with a flicker of worry when he glanced around only to hiss. Her gaze quickly followed him, staring at the tom that stood near them. Who was he? Mudfoot knew him and that name...Owlstrike, it was a warriors' name. Had he been one of the warriors that were exiled with her brother? Her ears flickered back, unsure of how to react to this...Owlstrike but made no movement - Mudfoot was the only true warrior here and she didn't want to be picking a fight without his say so.

As they reached the Carrionplace, Smokepaw shifted on his paws in excitement of going hunting. He listened to Mudfoot's words, having much of the same reaction Larkpaw did when the warrior seemed to take notice of something. But when he spotted the tom and Mudfoot growled the name, Smokepaw's fur fluffied up in worry. Owlstrike? The Owlstrike? He knew of Owlstrike even if he had never properly met the tom. H-He didn't want there to be a fight but the way Mudfoot and the tom were glaring at each other made him worry that there was no other choice. He shifted to the side, taking refuge behind the much bigger Larkpaw. Smokepaw had never liked the idea of fighting - he didn't want to take part in one now!

Owlstrike hissed at his father, the fur on his neck and tail standing on its end “What does it looks like? Or do you think that exiled cats don’t need to eat?” The brown cat’s green eyes were locked on Mudfoot’s, blazing with anger. He had been born, raised and trained on ShadowClan’s territory, so it was obvious that in desperate times like these he would stay around to hunt the prey he had used to eat while he still was between clan ranks.

It didn’t took him long to notice that Mudfoot was just as willing to fight as he was. For a brief moment, the Carrionplace’s sounds and sells as well as the apprentices he had brought vanished. Only his father and he were standing on this unexpected battleground, and for the first time there wasn’t a code or any in-clan relationship standing between them. For the first time they could fight, use claws and teeth to show the other how they felt about them instead of having to resort to looks and words…and Owlstrike wasn’t willing to let go of this chance.

With the fiery passion for battle that had grown bigger within him since he was only an apprentice, he jumped towards the older warrior with a loud hiss and claws unsheathed. Rage fueling his ruthless attacks, hatred guiding his actions.

What in StarClan's name was going on in Owlstrike's head that he thought he could hunt on forbidden land? Before Mudfoot could ask questions, the exiled cat jumped at him and not prepared, the warrior sent to the ground. Letting out a huff, Mudfoot got up, wincing at the pain in his side that would later become a bruise. He couldn't believe that this cat had once been his son, what had happened to him? There was no love left in his heart for Owlstrike and for all he cared, the tom could go rot in the DarkForest.

Letting out a low hiss from deep in his throat, the tom prepared himself. Owlstrike had chosen his path and for that, he'd show no mercy. Bunching up his legs, the warrior leaped at his opponent, jumping onto the tom's back and digging his claws into the flesh. "Foxheart!" he screeched, anger and rage overwhelming his usual softness.

Mudfoot used Leap and Hold, causing 14 damage and costing 10 stamina.
Owlstrike is stunned for two turns.

Owlstrike yowled angrily as he felt Mudfoot’s claws dig deep in his flesh as he lost balance and hit the ground with the older warrior on his back, pinned down. The lack of food was taking its toll on the exiled cat, stealing good part of the strength he used to have on his best days within the clan and causing him to not be able to throw his father off or even attempt to do it.

"Traitor!" Mudfoot yowled with rage, digging his claws into Owlstrike's side even more. He would never forgive his son, never!

“Traitor to who? As far as I know I never betrayed anyone, I was loyal to ShadowClan and what I got for that? They kicked me out! They abandoned me just like you abandoned me only a sunrise after I got my apprentice name!” Owlstrike hissed and growled as her tried to get free from the older warrior’s grasp, feeling his claws on his back even if the adrenaline and rage numbed the pain for the time being.

Owlstrike was a mousebrain, there was no doubt about it. He'd never meant to "abandon," his son, but he had no choice! He wasn't able to come back to the camp when the DarkForest forest occupied the forest, it would've been a suicide mission! Digging his claws into the tom's side one more time, Mudfoot lept off Owlstrike and onto the frozen muddy ground. "You are a coward Owlstrike, anyone can see it. A coward, who needs to be put in his place," the tom growled, hunching his back and staring into his son's eyes with a fiery, unforgiving rage.

“Coward? Of all the cats in ShadowClan you’re the one calling me a coward?!” As soon as he felt Mudfoot’s weight leave his back, he quickly sprung back on his paws, ignoring the stinging pain of the slashes on his back and shoulders and the warm blood on his fur, his jaws closing around the first part of his father’s body they could reach, which was his tail, and pulled with all his strength “You ran away from the clan with your tail between your legs after the Dark Forest took over when many cats decided to be brave and return to camp for their families! In the fight during the New Moon you hid between the trees and watched while we risked our lives to fight for what we believed in! When Webtail, Lightingstrike and I were exiled their families had the courage to try and talk on their favor while you lowered your head and rejected me as your son even when I did absolutely nothing in the whole time you were in the clan other than obey the leader’s rules and serve my clan! Who is the coward between us now?!”
