A Quick Training Session ((CLOSED))

Dawnpaw grinned at the praise then went back to try again. This time she did the same, but instead of wiggling she tried her best to stay as still and quiet as possible. She did the same when she pounced, pretending to bite the rock.

"Good." He purred again, padding up next to her side. "Do you think you could do it on real prey now?" He asked, wondering if they should move on or if they should continue practicing.

Dawnpaw gave out a large grin before nodding wildly. "Yes! Yes - Let's try on real prey!" She hopped on the spot, cheerful and excited again. She looked wildly around. "But... it's Leafbare, there won't be much prey, will there?" She frowned. Oh well, she'd find something, she was sure of it.

"No, there won't be much prey, but we can certainly still look around, keep your ears open." Fracturedhawk said as he turned and began to pad through the territory.

Dawnpaw hopped to her feet, following Fracturedhawk once again through the territory. Her first prey! I wonder what I'll catch! she thought to herself, looking wildly around her, attempting to spot anything.

Fracturedhawk paused, the familiar scent of prey hitting his nose. He glanced toward Dawnpaw, wondering if she caught it as well. "Is there prey nearby?" He inquired. This was her chance to hunt and catch her first prey, and the young warrior was looking forward to seeing how much she knew.

Dawnpaw stopped as abruptly as her mentor did. She listened carefully, quietly sniffing the space in front of and around her to see if she could work out whether there was prey here. She was about to say no, when she smelt it. Something was close by, and the apprentice could hardly contain her excitement. "Yes! Yes, I smell something!" She whispered to him, as quietly as she could.

Fracturedhawk had to hold back a chuckle at her enthusiasm, "do you think you can track it, and then catch it? It's alright if it gets away, this is your first hunt after all." He mewed encouragingly.

Dawnpaw scrunched up her nose. "I think I can catch it." She murmured, padding a few metres then dropping into a crouch. She caught the scent trail of the creature, and she faintly recognized the smell. It was a mouse, she was sure. She stalked the trail, knowing that the prey was not too far now. She paused, waiting for a moment, before pouncing. She crashed into the ground, mewing in surprise. The she-cat saw the mouse taking off, so she chased after it. "Come back here, you mouse-brain," She called, giving an amused smile at what she just said. She continued to run, at least 10 metres away from her mentor, then she pounced again, this time landing smack on target. She smiled proudly and bit the neck of the tiny creature. There was a sharp pain in her nose, and she realized her first attempt had landed a bite on her little nose. The apprentice picked up the mouse and hurried back to Fracturedhawk, giving him an apologetic, yet happy, grin.

Fracturedhawk watched as she stalked, failed the first attempt, and then took off into the undergrowth. He just sat there, not exactly sure if she was going to catch the mouse. Yet when she padded back towards him, he was happy to see her carrying the plump creature between her jaws.

"A little sloppy, but you caught it, good job." He purred. "Just try not to scare everything off next time you go hurling through the reeds." He teased.

Dawnpaw gave a purr of joy at catching her first prey, despite her failed beginning. "It's not my fault the mouse ran away. I was very quiet." She giggled and stood up "We take this back to camp with us don't we? And put it in the prey pile?"

Fracturedhawk nodded, "yes, we can take it back to camp now, I'd say this was a successful little quick training, what do you think?" He mewed, glancing at her as he began to turn towards camp.

Dawnpaw trotted beside him, the mouse dangling from her mouth. "Yes!" And they began to head back to camp.

Facturedhawk lead her back to camp, pleased to know she successfully caught prey.
