A Quick Training Session ((CLOSED))

Fracturedhawk sat at the entrance of camp, trying hard to ignore the cool snow beneath him. Dawnpaw's mentor, Petalbreeze, had recently disappeared, along with Shatteredpaw. He let out a disgruntled sound, the last thing they needed were cats running away from clan duties.

Yet, there was a part of his excited to be able to train two apprentices for the time being, and so he continued to anxiously wait by the entrance.

Dawnpaw trotted excitedly to the edge of camp to meet FracturedHawk. She was of course confused about her mentors disappearance but she was excited for her first day of training! Eagerly she spotted her temporary mentor and she grinned, padding over to meet him. The striped she-cat looked up at him and said "Hi! I mean, morning, FracturedHawk!"

She shuffled on her feet with anticipation and excitement.

Fracturedhawk smiled, "hello, Dawnpaw, ready to go?" He asked, hoping to get this training session over with, he really hated the cold, and wanted to at least get moving.

Dawnpaw nodded happily. "Yes!" She exclaimed. Her first ever training session! The excitement was almost unbearable for the little she cat. She stepped closer to him and prepared to follow him out into the territory of her clan. It was her first time out of camp, too, so that only added to her joy.

Fracturedhawk chuckled, "alright then, let's go." He said easily, and let the younger she-cat out of the camp and into the territory, wincing at the chilly water.

Once on the opposite bank, he began to lead her through the territory, glancing around and keeping his paw steps light in order to not scare off prey.

Dawnpaw followed, glancing around at the territory. Even in leaf Bare, it fascinated her greatly. She was mostly quiet along the way, simply watching birds fly past. If she listened, there were a few noises that she didn't recognise, but also many that she did.

Fracturedhawk came to a stop, the scent of prey hit his nose so he signaled with his tail for Dawnpaw to pause as well. He turned to face her, "have you heard anything about the hunting crouch?" He questioned quietly, wanting to get a bit of background information so he knew what to expect with her.

Dawnpaw frowned slightly at her question, thinking for a moment before shooting her head up and saying "Oh! I've heard of that! But I......" She trailed off, then added "But I don't really know what it is...."

Fracturedhawk smiled. "Perfect, just wondering." He mewed, then proceeded to lower his body, crouching low against the ground. "Like this, it may look like a simple crouch, but it's all about your posture if you expect to successfully catch prey." He informed the younger cat.

Dawnpaw copied the older cats movements, dropping in to a low crouch (though perhaps slightly too low). Her mouth was curved in a frown as she focused as hard as she possibly could. "Like.. this?"

"Well, better than not knowing at all." He chuckled, "relax a bit." He suggested, noting that her posture was looking a bit tense.

Dawnpaw listened intently to Fracturedhawk and relaxed her posture. She glanced hopefully up at her temporary mentor and grinned. "Now?"

"Definitely better," he said in an encouraging tone. "Now," he paused, glancing around for something for her to pounce on. The warrior noticed a stone nearby and pointed at it with his muzzle. "Pounce that stone over there, let's see what you've got." He mewed. Fracturedhawk would need to see her try first before instructing further.

Dawnpaw blinked at the stone then lowered into the crouching position with an ambitious look on her face. She stalked the rock and then paused, wiggling her back end before leaping and pouncing on the rock, pretending to bite it.

"Good start!" He mewed, "it was a little sloppy, but with practice, you'll get the right form down quick." Fracturedhawk purred, "try again, and this time, try to keep still, if you're wiggling around you could move bushes around and scare off the prey."
