The River is Salty (DEATH TOPIC, open)

The new apprentice wandered by the river, looking for a spot to fish. She was only doing this because she was ordered too - Saltpaw was not the type of cat to do things simply because she wanted to. She spotted a trout swimming along lazily, an unusual sight in the rushing river. Perfect. She crouched down on the riverbank, and as she moved her paws into the water, something gave way as she slipped into the water with a splash. Saltpaw thrashed above the water, attempting to swim, but the small cat was no match as she was swept down the river. It was the first time she'd even been in the water - but she wasn't swimming. Her head bobbed up and down in the water, and her paws beat violently down, trying to keep herself above the water level.
"Help me!" she yowled, desperate for someone, anyone to come. But for all she knew, her calls were never answered after she hit her head on the rocks that lurked beneath the surface, and Saltpaw disappeared under the water for the last time.

Why. Why did this happen. Was Starclan punishing her and her children for her being disloyal to them? "Not you." Fogheart had found her daughter's body washed up on the bank and hadn't moved since. The warrior was stiff, hair raised, trembling in grief. Her blind eyes stung. Before the fall of the Dark Forest, she would've been burning to find someone else to blame. But now, there was nothing. She was lost.

It took what seemed like moons for her to pick up the strength to take Saltpaw by the scruff and drag her through the territory. She carried her daughter all the way to camp and laid her in the center. She didn't call out. She only buried her nose in the young she-cat's pelt, unmoving.

Smokepaw trotted behind his mother, afraid. He had been going out hunting, but the reek of death... oh, the reek... had drawn him to the river. Yet, again. And yet again, his adoptive mother came there. This time, Saltpaw. Smokepaw's throat knotted it pain as she watched the dead she-cat.

He quietly joined his mother by the dead apprentice's body when they reached camp, having followed her in hard silence all the way back. "Mom." he whispered and layed down next to her, sobbing silently for his siblings.
