Falling into some Mud [closed]

Mudfoot padded to the apprentice den, poking his head in and glancing around the sleeping bodies. The sun was becoming less and less visible, and the cool air of night started to replace the once warm air. Being in ShadowClan, everyone should be waking up soon, but the tom wanted him and his apprentice to get an early start. Finally spotting Fallenpaw, Mudfoot gentle prodded the apprentice's side. "Wake up, we have some training to do," he meowed softly into the smaller cat's ear, and exited the den. He couldn't wait to start training with his new apprentice, and started planning out the night ahead of them.

Fallenpaw's eyes opened softly as she heard Mudfoot's voice whisper in her ear, she smiled as she was eager to start. She took her time as she wanted to save most of her energy for training. Slowly padding out and pacing, she found her self looking up at her mentor and eyes twinkling like stars in a midnight sky.

Fallenpaw soon stood by his side and he gave a purr of amusement. "That was probably the fastest I've ever seen an apprentice wake up. Let's get going then, shall we?" the tom meowed with a cheery smile and started padding towards the camp entrance. Tonight was perfect, and he hoped that Fallenpaw would enjoy training with him. "Where should we start?" Usually it was the mentors that decided where to patrol, but he thought giving the apprentice something to think about would help with learning the territory.

Fallenpaw smiled as Mudfoot told her how fast she woke up, she followed him as they soon went off into the woods. The young she-cat had never been out late at night before and she loved feeling the breeze hit her face when she walked, it cooled her down even though it was already really cold during the night, that's why she had tried to sleep early incase he had woken her up in the middle of the night which happened to be what he had decided to do.

Fallenpaw thought, her scent was pretty well and she thought hunting would be good to practice on since she had a good scent and needed to practice her hunting skills to help the Clan get some more prey. And she thought about earlier, remembering that she was in ShadowClan and wasn't born there, even thought she called this place her real home. She didn't know if Mudfoot knew about her being a kittypet or not but so far he hadn't spoken about it - which she was quite happy about cause she didn't want to talk about that right now and they were in the middle of training. She finally made her decision and spoke "Hunting please, I have a good scent but I want to practice that skill more than fighting" she mewed, explaining why she had picked that as her answer.

Mudfoot nodded in agreement. "Sounds like a great idea," the russet colored tom meowed in reply. So far, either Fallenpaw knew more than the eye could see, or she was amazing at faking not knowing anything. The two cats padded onward, until they reached an area that Mudfoot knew as near the center of ShadoClan territory. "Here we are," he meowed happily, looking around at the thick, and marshy forest. "How about you try hunting something, and I'll watch from a distance. After that, I'll give you tips on what you need to work on, and then we can try again," Mudfoot meowed, looking to his apprentice.

Fallenpaw nodded "Alright!" she mewed as she began to walk off. Now, when she did this she wanted to stay calm - she really didn't want herself to be nervous and mess up.

Creeping along the stumpy and wet forest floor she made her eyes were sharp. Before long she had found a mouse, which it was good for her to practice on a small animal before moving onto a rabbit or a bird. She crouched down a bit more to make herself comfortable but still ready for the attack. She unsheathed her claws and pushed her hind legs up, she seemed to loose a bit of balance once she caught onto her prey but it still wasn't too difficult to kill it off. She sunk her teeth into its neck, feeling satisfied as she brought it back to Mudfoot and dropped it down "There's your mouse!" she squeaked.

Well, she was definitely a quick learner. With in a few moments, Fallenpaw ran back to him with a mouse in her jaws and dropped it at her feet. "Good job!" he meowed happily. In the quick time that she'd left and come back, he wasn't really able to follower her and assess what she knew, but he assumed that as of now, she knew enough. "You caught a mouse, but can you catch a frog? Their scent is much harder to find because they blend in with the marshy scent, so let's see how you do," Mudfoot added. Maybe this will give me some time to see what she knows.

Fallenpaw nodded "Yeah I can do that!" she mewed as she leaped off to find a nearby place that was wet enough for a couple frogs could rest and poke their heads out of the water.

She soon was sitting on a ledge of soft mud and had her claws unsheathed once again. She looked at the frogs carefully as she tried to pick one that wouldn't get her to muddy and wet and have to find another spot to go find some more frogs, she knew it would take a little while if she had failed. She slowly got into a crouching pose, almost touching the mud that led to mossy water. She stared for a few minutes, almost seeming like a hawk but not catching its prey as fast as usual.

Finally she leaped up and dove into the mud, missing the toads and frogs. They all flew back under the water and Fallenpaw sighed feeling the slightest bit of disappointment. She didn't know if she wanted to go back to Mudfoot and say she had failed, as well as her paws getting covered in mud and her terrible ways of waiting a bit too long. She figured that she needed to go try again and bring at least one frog or toad back to Mudfoot successfully. She had finally found a place where not much mud was and a bit of water where some frogs could be. She waited for a smaller amount of time and dove into action as she sliced her paw at the frog and clawing its back.

Bring it back to her mentor she smiled, but Mudfoot probably already knew she had failed the first time due to her paws and how long it had took her to come back with a proud catch "Done!" she mewed as if she hadn't failed. If Fallenpaw failed she would always push herself to try again in anyway possible.

Mudfoot stayed where he was, and waited for Fallenpaw to return. Besides the soft hum of crickets and other forest creatures, he could tell that something was being clumsy, and wondered if it was his apprentice. Soon enough, she returned covered in mud, but held a frog in her jaws. At the sight of the apprentice, Mudfoot couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Looks to me like you had fun falling into some mud," he meowed happily, prod that his apprentice was determined to catch prey, even if her pelt got a bit dirty. "I think that's enough training for today, how about we head back to camp."

Fallenpaw smiled and laughed along as Mudfoot commented on her muddy pelt. She nodded "Yeah, I think that I need to get ready for some more training" she mewed with a slight purr. The young she-cat soon was padding along to camp, still ready for another day of work.

"You did really good today," Mudfoot praised Fallenpaw with a smile. "I can't wait to do more training with you," the tom meowed, glad to have an apprentice like her. He was positive that they'd have a great apprentice and mentor relationship ahead of them, and through all the stress of clan life, mentoring this apprentice was a true joy.
