A Thunderclan Hunting Party (Open)

"Good," Blackpaw purred, tail dancing across the mossy ground. It brushed past a few strands of vibrant green grass, morning dew resting on their tips peacefully. The sable-and-speckled tom grinned at Mosspaw's remark. "Yeah, I'd love to see it this evening!" He replied, keeping up with Mosspaw's quick pace quite evenly.

IC:

Frozenflame took the lead, sniffing the air for any sign of prey. "There is a flock of birds over there in that small clearing. I want Blackpaw, Mosspaw, Pinepaw, and Amberpaw to work together and catch as many of them as possible." The deputy flicked his tail over toward a break in the trees as his gaze settled upon the four apprentices. He then turned to Blazingleap, Blizzardshine, Stormstrike, and Morningshine. "Your job is to watch them and correct their mistakes, if any. Take note of how well they work together, because team work is key to survival."

Blazingleap followed in the middle of the cluster, stopping with them as Frozenflame halted to point out a large flock of birds. The ginger tabby tom nodded, a soft smile forming on his muzzle. He would have been eager to do this if he were an apprentice; jumping into a clearing full of birds and striking down as many as he could before they flew away, feathers raining down like snow. This should be both a learning experience and a source of fun for the apprentices.

Blackpaw nodded, believing Pinepaw would react harshly. He ruffled his now puffy black-and-speckled pelt, pawsteps soundless as he padded beside Mosspaw.

Mosspaw nodded and smiled. This would be fun.

She crept into a hunting stance and padded silently towards the flock. Locking her sights on the centers, she stood poised to leap. All of a sudden, she leaedt into the crowd of birds, claws unsheathed. She slashed at the birds, pinning them down, killing them. She laughed as she did so, the feathers raining down on her and the others. She didn't dare stop for a moment - they wouldn't let a single one escape. Even now, she could see what she and the other apprentices had gotten so far in this fast-paced frenzy would be a decent meal.

Blackpaw glanced up as a milky white bird fluttered past him, pouncing and pinning it down by it's wing. It struggled, before Blackpaw bared his fangs and bit down hard. The bird twitched slightly before convulsing. It then lay still. His muzzle washed in blood, Blackpaw looked over to see Mosspaw's progress. He chuckled to himself as he realized his catch was thanks to her. Yet his ears pricked in suspense, as a shadow cast over him.

Blackpaw's blue gaze caught a crow, diving down swiftly. It's long talons glinted in the sunlight, mystifying the young tom. Blackpaw flexed his claws, and pinpointed where it would land. He got a bit too cocky, shuffling into the bramble bushes and catching his claws on it's sparkling feathers. It attempted to nip him, yet he had slashed it in the chest already. He took his second catch and trotted out of the bushes proudly.

Blackpaw's eyes turned towards Amberpaw and Pinepaw, who seemed rather reluctant to stand near each other. Blackpaw didn't have a clue, in the name of StarClan, why they loathed each other. He quickly whisked his gaze away, not wanting to get into a quarrel with Pinepaw, that grumpy brown apprentice.

Pinepaw nodded at his mentor's words and shot his sister a glance to keep away. He gave the other two apprentices a cold glare, before turning to hunt somewhere besides Mosspaw. Amberpaw hissed and went near Blackpaw, both of them giving each other weird looks, Pinepaw's like ice while Anberpaw's like fire.

The tom glared around until he spotted a nice looking pigeon and he pinned it down with his paw. Right then, Amberpaw caught at the pigeon as well, but they didn't even exchange a look as Pinepaw left the pigeon to his sister and went to hunt some more. Amberpaw's eyes were huge with disbelief and she looked around lost until she located Blackpaw and guided her paws to hunt round him.

Pinepaw had already managed to take down four birds, his sister had gathered five. Both cats turned and left the prey at their mentors' feet.

Blackpaw had hunted for a while now. Being older than the others, he had caught six, paws itching to catch a seventh, yet he had failed. Since his mentor, Scorchfrost, was not present, he left his catches at Frozenflame's faded blue paws. He turned and nodded to Amberpaw approvingly, a smile upon his face. His ears flicked in the direction of Mosspaw, gaze flitting over her fluffy figure, as he awaited her arrival.

Blizzardshine nodded at Frozenflame’s words, sitting far enough to not interfere with the apprentice’s hunting lesson, a huge smile clear on her muzzle as her eyes landed on Amberpaw, her own apprentice. She, however, tried to not let pride cloud her vision as the apprentices took down bird after bird, knowing that such mistake would mask their mistakes and in the long run that would do a lot more harm than good to any of them.

As soon as Amberpaw placed the pieces of prey at her feet she nodded and purred, clearly pleased with his progress “You are turning out to be a really good hunter, Amberpaw” She looked at the other apprentices as they took their own prey to their respective mentors, the catch of that day would be more than enough to keep the clan well fed for some time “You’ll be great warriors once you are old enough” Her voice was a bit louder this time, as the compliment wasn’t only directed to Amberpaw.

"I won't be an apprentice for much longer," Blackpaw bragged, a purr rising in his throat. From his appearance, slightly smaller than his sister, Meadowpaw, you would think he already was. He decided he shouldn't be bragging, and, halted his words. "Or, at least, I hope," he murmured, tone hesitant.

Mosspaw picked up the five birds she had caught, and padded back over to Blackpaw.
"Not too bad, hey?" she laughed.

IC: Blackpaw glanced at the she-cat who has padded up next to him, smiling. "Yeah!" He mewed, rather joyously. He sat down and groomed a paw. Between licks, he murmured, and his gaze set on Mosspaw. "I caught six," he boasted, puffing out his chest proudly.

After leaving his catches to Frozenflame, Pinepaw sat down at the edge of the now empty hollow, scattered with feathers, his head tipped so he could watch the treetops bathed in sunlight. His sister remained to sit next to her mentor, smiling at her compliment. She was throwing sad looks towards her brother, now and then, her stomach constricting inside her with fear and something that might have been guilt for something she never did.
