Blackkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Treestep jumped up onto the Highrock, she could feel her age catching up to her as each day passed, 'I can't be getting old yet!' She chuckled to herself, half serious. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here for a clan meeting!"

Mistywater peeked from the nursery, letting her kits play she sat down below the Highrock and knew her kits would probably come out at some point.

Blackkit padded upwards, head and tail held high. He was careful not to seem too proud, as that was a mistake in his eyes. His glossy coat rippled with the eagerness of a new apprentice, and his excitement unfurled with a tiny squeak. He was shaking mildly. His maw was linear, yet his eyes betrayed his solemn look. A single flash of light reflecting off of his aqua blue orbs revealed that he couldn't wait. Each pawstep he made sure was perfectly silent, back straight and hackles fallen. His ear twitched with absolute excitement, though he was mature for the title he used to have.

Leaves rustled in the wind, blowing off and landing all around Blackkit. He did not know who Treestep was, yet still felt honoured by this ancient ritual. He let out a tiny mew to himself, wondering how to behave. He sat down, curling his tail over his paws neatly. He glanced upwards, habitual, serious behaviour replaced by one he usually found frivolous. His ears alert, he felt a chilly breeze wash over his muzzle. Every hair stood on end.

Blackkit had always usually been the underdog, and it felt strange to be starred in such a ceremony. He felt his heart pounding in his ears, shuffling his paws. He shut his eyes and hoped that he was worthy enough for the title of apprentice. He thought about his new name, which he would earn soon. Blackpaw... It'll be so strange to be called something like that! Blackkit echoed each thought in small, inaudible whispers.

Twisting to groom his pelt, Blackkit's gaze remained on Treestep. A huge sense of essence lay on his broad shoulders. He then slunk, near to the back, to get some good luck from his mother and littermates. He touched noses with his mother, shutting his eyes and drinking in her sweet, familiar scent. "I'm so excited..." Was all he could muster.

Treestep looked back at Blackkit who was clearly excited to be finally an apprentice, she smiled at him before calling out, "Blackkit please step forward." The kit bounded forward in the flick of a tail, "Blackkit you are ready to train to become a strong warrior! Your mentor will be Sedgewhisker who will train you well under the Dark Forest's rule."

Sedgewhisker touched his nose to the new apprentice of his "Its gonna be fun" he purred.


Mistywater smiled, happy for her son.

Blackpaw purred, tail waving with delight. The gleam in his eyes told all, as he touched his nose to his new mentor's. "Yes, it will be!" He mewed, tail curling with happiness. Blackpaw stepped down from the serrated, jagged peak of the dull grey rock. He felt as if he would burst with pride.
