Swirlpaw's Training [For Dreameon]

Duskfall sat outside in the clearing, having come from a dawn patrol over the territory. It was time to go teach Swirlpaw some moves and take her on a patrol as well. It was something he hadn't done before, but it seemed like a promising idea. After all, the enemy wasn't going to just lie in wait for the apprentice to stumble across them, they'd sneak about like shades if they could. Learning to navigate ThunderClan territory without being caught was a skill, one which had to be taught and practiced. Though he had no doubt the strong ThunderClan blood within would assist in her attempts.

"Swirlpaw, once you're done, come here!" He called out, his yellow-green eyes gleaming with anticipation.

The cream and ginger apprentice heard what her mentor said and nodded. As soon as she finished what she was doing she padded over to Duskfall.

"Today we'll be training a little different from usual. I'll go off into the territory, and you'll have to track me. Remember, if you get too close, I may attack you. But you're welcome to attack me back, understood?" Duskfall explained, Swirlpaw was young but if she was anything her like parents, she'd make a great tracker/hunter. After all, medicine cats need to have the most sensitive noses of the clan.

Swirlpaw blinked but then nodded quietly her cream and ginger tail flicking happily " ok got it " she mewed smiling. She figured this training would be fun.

"Good, I'll be off then. Try find me, Swirlpaw. And remember, eyes aren't everything." The tom patted his apprentice on the head with a paw before bolting off. A deliberate action to leave her with a scent to remember, though whether she'd use it was up to her. The tom quickly set off into the familiar forest, leaping up and climbing when he found a sufficiently well placed tree near Snake Rocks. A deliberate choice since the stale scents of foxes and badgers did make a good cover for his scent. And enough patrols went by it was confusing. Now all he had to do was wait.

Swirlpaw blinked and nodded"yes aren't everything got it " she mewed flicking her cream and ginger tail. She was quiet for a moment blinking as he patted her on head with his paw. As he did she realized that he probably did it for her to catch his scent. As he left she used his scent to follow him. Even after he was way out of sight. She attempted to follow the scent before it vanished. Though as she came to Snakerocks,she stopped the scents of past patrols and foxes jumbled up and she was starting to confuse her so that was when she tried to use her eyes. Quietly she looked around up to the trees.

Duskfall was impressed that she'd taken his hint and followed him to the trees. It was no easy or simple task, yet the she-cat had managed it with relative easy, and she was close. A little too close, so it was time for the older tom to show her what an enemy strike would be like. From his place in the trees, the tom coiled up and sprang down onto the apprentice, claws sheathed but slamming into her with another force to have her knocked away.

"Stand and fight, Swirlpaw. Your enemies won't show mercy."

Swirlpaw was knocked away. Though somewhat taken by surprise but then remembering Duskfall words that that would happen. She looked to her mentor when he spoke to her and she stood tail flicking a little as she nodded ready for a fight.

The brown tom circled his apprentice, sure footed as his muscular bulk was supported by honed senses that knew when best to strike. His experience gave him an unfair advantage of his petite apprentice, but he showed no mercy beyond the sheathing of his claws. Duskfall was training her to survive a real battle, not training her to fight for fun.

To give her a chance, he deliberately took a misstep that would weaken his stance. A chance for her to strike and bowl him over.
