Hunting [OPEN]

Heatherpaw crouched and kept her eyes focused on the plump rabbit sitting a fox-length from her. She slithered forward, ready to pounce, but something scared her prey away. "Mouse-dung!" she hissed. Whirling around, she was ready to chew the cat out. Heatherpaw stopped bristling when she saw who it was. "Sorry.." she mumbled, looking away.

Being a warrior was...well, honestly a lot more boring that she expected it to be. Asterflower thought there would have been a lot more activities to do - but honestly, it didn't feel much different from being an apprentice. She even had to do some of the same activities - the only difference being she was taken up a lot of the time on more dawn patrols.

Which was sad, as Asterflower really did enjoy sleeping in.

She had left the camp that morning hoping to bring back a sparrow for breakfast, but ended up curling up on a flat rock instead. Before she knew it, she had nodded off, jerking awake suddenly when she heard approaching pawsteps. Luckily for her, it wasn't an attacking cat - but unlucky for everycat, it was only her sister on the trail of a rabbit, who promptly escaped.

"W-w-what are you saying sorry for?" She yawned, rising to her paws as she stretched luxuriously. "It was m-m-my faa-ult." Yeouch...she had a kink in her back. So much for a restful sleep. That's show her for falling asleep outside her own nest.

"Something wrong?" She asked, noticing the way that Heatherpaw turned away. "I didn't mean to scare your rabbit away, honest. I'll tell everyone in camp how close you were, too."

"I thought you were someone else," she explained, looking back up at her sister. "And it's okay." she meowed. "Hey, want to go hunting together?" Heatherpaw asked, really wanting to go do something. Her paws were itching to run.

"Well, so long as you didn't think I was a rabbit and tried to tackle me for breakfast!" She mewed playfully, gradually becoming more and more awake with each passing moment. "But hey - whoodja mistake me for, huh?" She questioned, rather curious as to what her sister had been up to lately. Seeing as they no longer shared a den as apprentices.

"I could handle something to eat." She mewed, feeling the emptiness of her stomach hitting her the longer she was back on her paws. By no means starving, she still had quite the appetite. "Think you can keep up?"

"I don't really know who I thought you were. And yes I think I can keep up." She meowed.

Asterflower didn't quite believe her sister - which made her feel a little bad. She wondered if she was trying to cover something up - if something was wrong, or she was worried. But right now, her stomach was leading her somewhere else. She'd leave it until later, and for now she'd just be sure to keep her eye on her.

"Alright then - keep up, Heatherpaw. And keep your nose up - lets see if the rabbits are running!"

Heatherpaw smiled and trotted after Asterflower.

As much as she sniffed, there didn't seem to be many scents of food in the air. There was lots of different, interesting smells - stale rabbit, their various clanmates. Many things - except new food.

"Or not." She mumbled. She'd been looking forward to having something take her mind off her worries. "Check the sky - see any birds. We can follow as see if they land in territory."

Heatherpaw scanned the cloudless blue sky. As she went to look back down, a big hawk flew into view. She nudged her sister. "Asterflower..big hawk..up there.." she meowed quietly. She waited a moment, and it landed on the moor, fairly close to them.

A hawk. Well, it wasn't a particularly good type of food (she had personally found them very tough to nibble on) - but it was better than nothing. Plus, one less hawk in the world meant that they weren't going to pick off a cat. Problem was, she didn't want the hawk to scoop up one of them.

"Have you learned how to take on a hawk yet?" She purred to her sister, keeping low against the ground. "I don't want to see you get carried away."

Heatherpaw's eyes went wide, and she was silent for a few heartbeats. "Um.. no, but I could try!" she meowed confidently, and before Asterflower could object, she leaped into the air and landed square on the shoulders of the big bird. The golden she-cat bit its neck while scratching its wings and back. It was a struggle, but soon the bird dropped limp and she dragged it over to her sister triumphantly, without any scratches. "How'd I do?" she asked.

"Heatherpaw, wait!" She was worried that her sister was about to be eaten by a hawk - they could be dangerous, even for full-grown cats to take. But before she could stop her, her sister was off - and Asterflower was running after her, panic in her heart.

She slowed suddenly, though...when Heatherpaw lept and brought the bird down on her own. "Don't do that next time!" She growled, as her panic slowly subsided. "He could have grabbed you! You're lucky it didn't!"

Heatherpaw looked at her paws. "Sorry.." she mumbled.

Redpaw watched interested as Heatherpaw tried to get the falcon. She tried jumping but only landed in a heap. She hoped neither of the cats had heard her as she stalked them from behind, hoping to learn something.

Heatherpaw heard quiet pawsteps behind them. She fell back a little bit, and turned her head the slightest bit. A cat was stalking them. Redpaw She turned her head and continued walking, a smile on her face.
