Shadowclan's Deputy

After a long night of thought, Thrushstar was finally ready to make his choice. He had plenty of time to think it over and weigh the good and the bad, so when he was ready, he jumped onto Jaggedrock to make his first announcement as leader. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" He yowled loudly and strongly. He hoped he was making the right choice.

Bearpaw looked up from her spot in the shadows, and stood up. She wandered out as she stared at her father, wondering what this meeting was about; but she quickly scolded herself. Of course she knew; it was time for a deputy to be appointed. She sat down and wrapped her tail around her paws, glancing around wondering if maybe Tigerpaw would sit with here.

Mistflower padded out of the nursery and sat down, gazing up at Thrushstripe - Thrushstar expectantly, trust and pride showing clearly on her face.

Ebonyleaf padded out next, yawning and watching the new leader gather the clan together.

Tigerpaw eagerly padded out of the apprentice's den, glancing around quickly and taking a seat next to Bearpaw. "Hey, there." He said with a small grin and glancing around eagerly.

Redshade padded out and stretched, sitting down by himself for now. He assumed that this was another apprentice ceremony, since there's been a lot of those recently.

Sleetpaw moved away from the apprentices' den, and slowly made her way under the jaggedrock. Sleetpaw knew what this was and she wondered who Thrushstar would choose.

Finishing up her small mouse, Cormorantpelt rose to her black paws and, as usual, took her sweet time getting over to Jaggedrock and taking a seat beside Mistflower. As the warrior scanned the queen, she noticed a great change in the way Mistflower looked at Thrushstar... In place of sadness and hesitancy was now something along the lines of trust and pride. Everything must be patched up between them now?

Heavystep arrived just after his sister, taking a seat beside Ebonyleaf. "Another meeting in so short a time... Wonder what's up?" His question was more to himself.

"As you know," Thrushstar began, looking down at all that gathered under the rock. "As soon as the old deputy is made leader, a new deputy must be named by the next night. So, that is why I have called you to this meeting." Looking at each and every face, he could only hope that by now he was making the right choice. Taking in a deep breath, his eyes finally settled on one face. "I say these words before Starclan so that they may hear and approve of my choice. Shadowclan's new deputy will be Cormorantpelt." He had watched her grow. He knew that the warrior and queen had made some decisions that she was not proud of. One had cost them a lot, but to him, it was all the more reason. She knew what it was like to mess up and to learn from her mistakes. She had done a lot of growing up since then, and he felt she was ready. Let's just hope that she would prove him right. Without another word, the leader jumped down off of the rock to carry on with his duties.

Shadeflame smiled happily. His apprentice was a deputy! He was proud of her. Padding up to her head, he dipped his head in respect. "Congratulations," he mewed cheerfully. "I know that you'll be a great deputy and it's all because of me C: cuz I'm such a good teacher and stuff." Smiling at her once again, he padded past her, and slipped into the warrior's den.

Comorantpelt stood there for a few heartbeats, golden-yellow eyes wide. What? Was Thrushstar for real? He couldn't be... Cormorantpelt. Cormorantpelt? As lazy as she was? But as she waited for Thrushstar to laugh and say 'naw I was just kidding', he lept off Jaggedrock and padded off to StarClan knows where.
...So it wasn't a joke. This was real. Cormorantpelt was ShadowClan's new deputy. "I-I'll do my best, Thrushstar!" She shouted, even if he probably couldn't hear her now. A familiar figure moved in the corner of her eye. Her old mentor, Shadeflame, looking at her with pride. "Thank you for everything, Shadeflame. I'm sure this is because you've taught me so well." She purred as she watched him make his way back to the warrior's den.

Redshade huffed in amusement. Cormorantpelt? This must be a joke. But when he saw Thrushstar leap down and Cormorantpelt get a bunch of congratulations from various cats, he simply stared in disbelief. Shaking his head slightly, he had honestly figured that someone who didn't mess up as much would get the position, but whatever. He could roll with it.
