First Step Out of the Nursery

Rookkit tried to get out of the pin. "Just wait 'til I'm bigger. I'll beat you." she squeaked. "And I'll be leader before you!"

"That was very nice Tigerkit, you will do great in training!" she smiled, watching the little kits play.

"Like I said before," Tigerkit began, "I'll be leader before you're a warrior!"

Determination flashed through Rookkit's eyes. She managed to get out from the pin and pounce at Tigerkit again.

Tigerkit ducked from Rookkit's pounce at the last second and getting a playful look. "Iwanna practice against an actual warrior!"

Rookkit tumbled to the ground but got up quickly. He rolled her eyes at his commemt. "You'd get beaten right away." she mewed.

Spottedfeather giggled, watching the little kits. She shot her paw out and unhooked Tigerkit's paws out from underneath him, not putting enough pressure to hurt. "You've got to learn to watch for anything. Don't think you're quite ready to face me. But if you find an apprentice, you can play with them. If they are soft with you." she wouldn't let a rough apprentice play with the little kits. She doesn't want their fragile bodies getting hurt.

Rookkit smiled and saw something out of the corner of her eye. She turned and saw a moth. She grinned and got down in a sloppy crouch. Her tail swished back and forth in the air and she bounded towards the moth, leaping at the last second tumbling to the ground. She got up and sat down crossly. She glared at the moth.

Tigerkit dropped into his kit-perfect hunting crouch and shot forward, pinning the moth down. "Got it!" he mewed, smiling.

Rookkit felt her heart sink. She dropped her head in defeat. "I guess you were right." she muttered. She layed down and rested her head on her paws.

Spottedfeather smiled and poked the little kit with her paw. "You will do fine Rookkit. Tigerkit is just older than you, and had more experienced. You both will be great warriors. Just train with all your might and you can get stronger and better with time."

"I'm just too small." the small kit protested. She got up and walked a little ways away from the warrior and older kit. She sat down and batted at the ground.

Spottedfeather looked around and spotted a moss ball. 'There we go.' she thought and went and picked up the moss. The threw it toward the little kit and spoke louder. "You just got to practice! Come on! Play!" she crouched and swished her tail, waiting for the kits.

Rookkit turned when the moss ball hit her. Shr batted at it and her silver eyes sparkled as it rolled away. She chased after it and batted it again. She watched as it rolled towards Tigerkit.

Tigerkit picked up the moss ball with a hooked claw and flung it at Rookkit, happiness shining in his amber eyes.
