ShadowClan's Deputy

The ShadowClan leader looked over camp from her perch on the Jaggedrock. Contemplating her choice. After weighing the pros and cons of each and every warrior, She stood up, then called out; "All cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Jaggedrock for a clan meeting."

Smokefang walked out of the warriors' den and underneath the Jagged rock as she waited for the ceremony to start.

Ravenkit came from the nursery to see what was going on. Curling her tail around her paws, she watched in curiosity.

Instantly both Gingerheart and Thrushstripe looked up to see Nightstar standing on the rock in the camp. With a curious look on both of their faces, they quickly took their spots underneath Jaggedrock and looked at the new leader. What could her new announcement be about?

Sagewhisker padded out and laid down outside of the elders den, looking up expectantly, his green eyes glinting with sharp interest. Snowpaw couldn't exactly hear the announcement, but he sat outside anyways with a pretty good idea of what was going on. Mistkit, meanwhile, was easy to leave her brother behind and rush into the clearing - whether she could catch her own prey or not. "What is it? What's happened?!" She demanded with exasperated excitement, looking around gleefully and not watching where she was going, she crashed into Thrushstripe's leg with an oof!

Nightcloud looked up from her spot with a flicker of surprised, but quickly hurried her way over once she realized what this Clan gathering had to be about; the naming of the Clan Deputy. Her gaze flickered over what cats were in the clearing already, wondering who would be getting the spot. Perhapes Smokefang...But Gingerheart and Shadeclaw both would be good choices also. Her whiskers twitched as she sat down in her normal spot. At least she wasn't leader...She would hate to make a choice as big as this one in such a short time.

The leader looked over the gathered cats once more before announcing her decision. She could recall a vivid memory of Sagestar reciting the same words."I say these words before StarClan so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice."She paused,"The new deputy of ShadowClan will be Thrushstripe." Her blue eyes landed on the now named deputy. Nightstar purred in congratulation, and without a moment of hesitation, she leaped down from the rock as a dismissal. So the clan could congratulate their deputy.

As soon as his name was called, Thrushstripe looked up with a look of shock. Was he really going to be-- no, was he really the next deputy? He honestly didn't see that one coming. He was expecting it to be one of the older warriors. There were so many more cats that deserved the title of deputy, but Nightstar chose him. Instantly, he looked around at his clan mates to see their reactions. Were they going to congratulate him or would some of them hate him? It obviously didn't make much difference, but he didn't want to have the position come between him and the other warriors. He quickly tried to speak, but his voice got caught in his throat. He was truly speechless.

Mallowroot was totally there when the Clan leader announced Thrushstripe as the next deputy and looked over at the shocked cat. "Thrushstripe! Thrushstripe!" he called.

Turning to look at Thrushstripe, Eaglepaw narrowed his amber eyes.
That'd be me if my training wasn't put off.
The words replayed over and over in his mind, and he got to his paws and reluctantly padded over. "Congratulations." he said bluntly through gritted teeth, nosing the older tom's shoulder.
