Looking For Trouble

The stars sparkled in the dark night-sky, lighting it up a bit. Small clouds dotted their formations here and there, making light just a little darker. A small, short breeze ruffled some grass as a shadow shot over it, just barely visible in the darkness. But it wasn't a shadow, and being as shady as it was tonight, it only looked like one. It was actually none other than Crowclaw, out to try phase one of his plan he had made up. If you didn't think he was serious about his rather...unique dream, you were wrong.

The black tom raced farther out into the territory, heading towards the border that marked the end of the clan lands. He carried a rabbit in his mouth, plump and fresh with the sharp tang of blood all over it. By now, almost everyone should be asleep or in camp since it was just after midnight, the moon high in the sky. Crowclaw himself felt a little tired, but he wouldn't let that stop him. It wasn't like this was his first time staying up far more late than others. Sometimes it was hard to get to sleep since his mind had been so full of thoughts lately. He was putting one of his ideas into action now.
When he left camp, he had simply told the camp guard he was having trouble sleeping again and wanted to go for a walk. Nothing suspicious, right? If anything, it was completely innocent. It wouldn't be a coincidence if a fox showed up on the territory at this hour while Crowclaw was out here...In fact, some might consider it a miracle so it didn't try to find the camp.

It didn't take the Windclan warrior long to sprint to the border, even with the rabbit in his jaws(despite his small size). He looked around, not daring to cross the border in case they went to check if the fox's scent was there after it was chased off. He lay the dead rabbit down by the border and raced off to hide, remembering how he had smelled the faint scent of fox here not long ago. It meant that there was probably a fox wandering around outside the territory. That was how Windclan wanted it, but Crowclaw needed it to come into the territory for his plan.
Not much time passed and Crowclaw had already tasted the approaching smell of fox on the breeze. He poked his head out from the shadows where he was hiding, watching as a larger, furry-tailed, orange animal with a long snout and sharp eyes padded out to the bait. Crowclaw let out a hiss, leaping forward. Here was an advantage to being small: you could fool your enemies into so many things, because they often thought you were younger or weaker. The fox looked up in surprise, a growl rumbling in its throat. It bared its fangs, hackles steadily rising. The tom smirked and spun around, dashing away. He herd the bark of the fox as it gave chase. But Crowclaw was a Windclan cat, and kept a steady distance between him and the fox.

His destination was close. Crowclaw stopped as they neared around the middle of the territory, not too far or too close to camp. The fox let on a burst of speed as it realized it was almost upon its target. With a smirk, Crowclaw let out a loud yowl, leaping out of the way of the fox's jaws at the last moment, spinning around to face it. He let out another yowl. The fox leaped at him once again. He dodged. It wasn't hard to avoid the big, lumbering ball of fur since he wasn't focusing on attacking...Yet. Once he got more serious and actually fought back, however, things may get a little difficult. But what fun was there in a fight if it ended quickly?

Crowclaw smiled, letting out one last yowl. Now the real battle would begin. Others would come running to see Crowclaw bravely fighting off a fox, and would join in to ensure victory. He would be seen as clever for not truly attacking until after he signaled help and keeping the creature away from camp. He would be a little more respected, and perhaps even one of those bad memories of him would disappear from their minds...Like that one gathering before he became a Warrior. Or that fight with Lavenderpaw even before then. Yes, he would be getting somewhere. With his newly-sharpened skills thanks to Icestream, there was no way Crowclaw could mess up now! He couldn't, and he would make sure he wouldn't.


Like the shadow of a cloud quickly passing, Crowclaw sped around the fox, leaping onto its back. He dug his back-claws in to hang on, his fore-paws working vigorously to deal harsh damage on the animal.

Ooc: Yeah...He'll need some help. Also, I know this may be a lot to ask for some of you since many don't like reading long posts(which I have a habit of making), but don't bother joining in if you're not going to read the whole thing. It's kind of important so your character doesn't assume or do something that wouldn't make sense under the conditions explained.

Suddenly! A flash of black, white, and orange zoomed past the warrior a vicious his emitting from her throat driving unsheathed claws into the skin, and flesh of the large fox. The senior warrior tore her claws across the side of the fox. Then diving under the fox and driving her teeth and claws into it's underbelly  but to avoid it's snapping jaws she had to move away, landing in the cream, beige colored grass, the blades of grass had brushed away little of the blood on her fluffy fur, which was puffed out as she glared straight into it's eyes.

Twistedfoot head shot up at the sound of a yowl, his eyes widening as he quickly pulled himself to his paws and stumbled off of the rock he had been sleeping on. While his twisted paw caused him to trip a few times as he tiredly tried to leave the camp to find the source of the yowl, he finally did so. As he finally came across the source of the yowl and froze. The sight of Crowclaw and Patcheye already fighting was unnerving to the tom, but what startled him the most was the orange and white beast they were fighting. He swallowed, stumbling back a bit as he heard that growls that had haunted his dreams for moons; and sometimes still were. He knew those markings as he would never forget them. It was a fox.

To most it would seem odd, a warrior quickly backing away from a fight, but Twistedfoot had his own reasons that only three other cats would truly remember. The border patrol that had happened with Raccoonstar, Patcheye, and Falconfang when he was only a new apprentice flashed in his mind; but the part that caused him to flinch was when he recalled the orange and white beast suddenly attacking them and took his mother's first life. He hadn't even had his apprentice name for two moons when he was forced to watch his mother; Raccoonstar, 'die' in front of him. Sure she came back, but foxes had haunted his dreams ever since.

What had brought a fox back onto the territory? Perhaps it had once lived here and was visiting again, or the scent of rabbits had sparked the hunger inside of it. Whatever the reason, Twistedfoot wanted it out! He took a deep breath, trying to steady his breathing as he charged forward and stuck the fox with his claws as hard as he could.

Occ: Yay for me finally getting around to being able to mention Twistedfoot's fear of foxes!

Ic: Crowclaw had leaped off the fox, finishing his attack as soon as the other two appeared to help him. He nodded, letting out a hiss and kicking his back claws out at the fox's rump, causing it to skid forward slightly in surprise.

The fox let out several yelps in pain, the last one turning into an angry growl. It leaped towards Patcheye, biting down on whatever he could get his jaws on. His strong jaws ripped flesh quite easily, viciously shaking the she-cat before letting go when he tore fur and skin off.

Patcheye let out a hiss of pain as the foxes teeth dug into her back, lashing around the Senior warrior let out a growl of anger, saliva dampening her maw in such rage, she tried squirming out of its strong grip but was unable to, she hated the feeling of the teeth that could cause diseases. Now, all she could manage in such position was to attempt an attack to the face.

Twistedfoot's eyes widen when he saw the fox clamp onto his sister. He froze, taking a step back as he tired to figure out what he wanted to do. Seeing the blood drip from the fox's jaws as it bit on his sister made his fur prickled with fear. He with a small growl, he shook his to clear the fear and spun around, his back-legs shot out and stuck the fox in the side of the head, attempting to make it let go of Patcheye.

Crowclaw growled, forcing himself not to smile in satisfaction. The fox was getting tired. Soon it would be easy to finish it off. He had to be the one to do it, too. He shot forward, ducking under the creature and ripping claws through flesh. The fox was obviously more interested in the larger prey at the moment, but it was only a matter of time before the thing noticed him.

The fox was panting heavily now, but it wouldn't stop, obviously in a rage for a reason only Crowclaw knew about. Angry the tom had tricked him into an ambush, taken him away from his food, and now was trying to kill him. He snapped forward at the nearest cat, which was Twistedfoot.

Raccoonstar stood at the top of the hill for a moment, watching her warriors fight the fox that made it's self apparent in the last while.. The leader decided it was time for the darn thing to go, and if it didn't leave then they would have to kill it. The leader crouched powering her back legs to push her off and into the fox below. The leader waited until the fox was still enough for her to make her move steadily she sprang forward running at a great speed tackling the fox to the ground going along with it.

ooc:I know it takes two turns, but I didn't want to wait for it, the fox would have been dead by that time so... shhhh...

Crowclaw blinked, looking over at Raccoonstar in surprise. He hadn't expected her to arrive. The fox finally let out a squeal, backing up, panting. It was far out-numbered, and could barely walk. Instead, it began to limp away as fast as it could. Crowclaw let out a huff of slight annoyance. He was supposed to finish it off, and was about to launch himself at the thing when he held himself back, watching it go. He couldn't kill it; he'd just look like a shameful idiot. The clans had that stupid no-killing law, after all. He never really saw the point in it. Everyone died eventually anyways. Why not end it so any future battles were easier?

With a sigh, he turned to the others. "It should leave us alone now. I expect you want an explanation?" He asked, looking at each one of his clanmates in turn.

Twistedfoot had scrambled back in pain and surprise when he had felt the teeth of the fox sink into his shoulder. He had stayed away from the fox until his mother appeared and drove the fox away, flinching at the warm blood that oozed from his shoulder. As Crowclaw spoke, he turned to look at the warrior and nodded slowly. Of course, he didn't say anything. It was up to his mother to speak. He shifted from paw to paw; at least the best that he could do so with his twisted paw and hurt shoulder; waiting for Raccoonstar or Crowclaw to speak first.

"May I ask, did you provoke the fox to fight? was it completely necessary, yes it trespassed but it may only have been passing." she pointed out trying to steady herself, looking over at Crowclaw in a bit of a challenging manner, starting to lay her ears back, she wasn't particularly fond of Crowclaw for his aggression but he was a strong warrior.

Crowclaw snapped his gaze over to Patcheye, glaring at her. "And why would I do that? I was taking a walk and that thing was eating a rabbit on our territory. It saw me and started chasing me. I gave off the warning calls and tried to keep it away from camp." He growled, rolling his sharp green eyes. "Don't you trust your own clanmate, Patcheye?"

Did his clanmates really lack that much trust in him? Perhaps he'd have to put even more work into this than he first thought. But it wasn't a problem. He had a plan.

Twistedfoot frowned a bit, but nodded as he listened to Crowclaw's story. He looked at his sister as she challenged Crowclaw, and his gaze flickered back and forth between the two as he waited to hear her response after the mostly black warrior snapped at her. Oddly enough, he was on Crowclaw's side. Why reason would the warrior have for bringing a fox so close to the WindClan camp unless it had chased him? Of course, he was half wondering what the chances were that all the times that Crowclaw left the camp in the middle of the night, there just so happened to be a fox in the territory...His train of thought was derailed as he flinched, looking at his hurt shoulder. He figured they should be getting back to camp, mostly so Shadeheart could check his and Patcheye's wounds, but he didn't speak up. He felt like it wasn't his place to get in between Crowclaw and Patcheye's little 'fight.'

"I trust my clan mates, just not you, Crowclaw." she spat her fur poofing up as she glared intensely at the younger warrior. Taking a step forward, not responding to anything else the warrior said she just held her ground, he was right that it chased him, but still, something about her clanmate was just not right! She hoped her mother, or atleast another warrior would see her point of view.

Crowclaw flattened his ears. "So apparently I'm not a clanmate to you? What have I done to you anyways to make you so bitter towards me?" He growled. "Whatever. Let's just go back to camp. I'm tired, finally. Couldn't sleep." With that final statement, the tom began to pad off towards camp, tail lashing in annoyance.
