The tom could breathe easily again once he had left WindClan territory behind him, though there was still an unsettling sadness prickling at him. So much had happened to him and his clan these past few moons. First to mind was of course that of the Deos, who even after the clans' victory and their demise, seemed to leave a blunt scar across the face of the forest. He had lost a new friend dear to him. He had lost his brother, their talented medicine cat. Their newest warrior, who died far too soon. And now one of his most skilled warriors seemed to be ill as well. Sagestar left today because he demanded answers from his ancestors, though every time he glanced up at the sky, they seemed unwelcoming; the entirety of Silverpelt covered with gray clouds.

He hated to admit this to himself, but what he wanted more than anything else right now was a friend; while he trusted Mallowroot and Nightwing with his life, there was this lingering feeling of wanting to see...
No. Sagestar shook his head, mentally scolding himself. He shouldn't be so yearnful over someone else, and certainly not the enemy. Although, certainly she would understand his troubles. Although he'd never say it, she was a very good leader. Clever and brave. The she-cat could be fierce and intimidating while still have a certain grace and charm to her that he couldn't help but admire. She'd always been like that, though, ever since they had met as apprentices. He'd always thought she was smart and pr-

Okay, wait. Wait. Wait. No. Bad.
He cursed himself under his breath as the tom slipped under the fence to the abandoned barn's land, trying to think of his clan and his ancestors again; his train of thought repeating himself, he'd hardly even notice if anyone else was there at the moment.

Little did Sagestar know, he wasn't alone in the barn. A shadow shifted through the dim moonlight filtering in from the gaps in the roof, almost completely silent. If one was listening closely, they would definitely hear the shuffling of paws against against straw, but if one had their minds in another place, then nothing would be out of the ordinary. The shadowy figure of a cat crouched down behind a pile of Twoleg boxes, watching with sharp ice eyes that seemed to reflect the light of night. Carefully, with a hint of mischief twitching the cat's whiskers, the figure moved forward until standing directly at the entrance of the barn.
Once again crouching down, the graceful and slender creature waited until the tom moved into the barn before pouncing forward with decent speed, claws sheathed as the cat attempted to pin the other creature in the barn.

The tom walked past the entrance to the barn, paying no mind to it what-so-ever; that is, until something struck him as strange. He wasn't sure if it was his mind playing tricks on him, but he thought he caught the scent of RiverClan in the air. Curiously, the gray tabby stepped inside to check it out. It wasn't too long, though, that he had dismissed it as his imagination and started to leave, distracting himself again. Right as he turned, Sagestar had the wind knocked out of him by surprise. The ShadowClan leader let out a yowl and wrestled with his attacker, twisting and rolling with them, but his claws were unable to get a good grip.

The cat battled with Sagestar for a few moments, rolling multiple times until finding a moment where they were above the tom. Claws dug lightly into his shoulders as the cat finally won. Panting lightly, front paws loosely on the ShadowClan leader's shoulders, back legs resting on the ground. With the victim pinned, the cat smiled. "I win." A light, feminine voice escaped from the lips of the cat above Sagestar. Froststar didn't move, but she sheathed her claws and tilted her head to study the tom. "You know, for a ShadowClan cat, you'd think you'd have known I was there. I'm really disappointed, Sagestar." She shook her head in mock disappointment, making no move to move her paws from the tom's shoulders.
She had taken the long route to the barn just after her clanmates went off to sleep. For the longest time she had been plagued by nightmares- if she could rest at all. Tonight, she thought it might be best if she went away for a little while. So, without telling a soul (it had been a quick decision, and she didn't want to wake her sister) Froststar had journeyed off towards the barn. Later on, she expected to go to Highstones, but she had been resting whenever Sagestar came by.

Sagestar had been holding a growl in the back of his throat as he was pinned to the ground and was ready to throw her off and start really fighting back, that was, until she spoke. His fierce look changed to something much more dumbfounded. His jaw hung open as if he were going "uhh", struggling to find something to say. What was the she-cat doing here? Was this some sort of trap? The tom took in a breath of air, catching only her scent - and he was sure of that this time around.
The gray tabby flicked an ear, "So am I. I should've scented your fishy stench from Fourtrees." He said, unsheathing his claws and getting a mischievous grin. He kicked the she-cat off of him and started wrestling her again, determined to come out on top this time.

Froststar laughed aloud at the tom's bewildered expression. Paws still planted on the tom's belly, she scuffed. "As if you could smell anything over your own putrid stench." Her words may have been harsh, but they were delivered without a hint of venom. She noted cautiously as he unsheathed his claws, giving her a dangerous smile. She felt the pressure of hind legs kicking her back, she dealt a halfhearted blow, a smile bright on her face as she fought with the tom, just as determined to win.
After a while of rolling around, she misfired a blow, coming tumbling to the ground as she lost her balance.

Oh, that was it. She was going down. Although, victory didn't come to him as easily as he surely would've liked. The majority of his dealings hardly even touched her, his claws only gently snagging at her fur as he struggled to gain the upper-paw. Finally, he saw his opportunity as the she-cat tripped over herself. The tom didn't spare a moment, leaping and pinning her to the ground as she had done to him before.
A haughty grin grew on Sagestar's as he caught his breath, though the amusement was clear on his face. "Well, well, well..." He mused, sheathing his claws again but keeping his paws firmly on her. "What will you do now, Froststar?" The tabby asked teasingly.

Froststar tried to squirm out of Sagestar's pin, though it proved to be no use. Faking a look of boredom, Froststar looked away from the tom. "I don't know, I might take a nap." She replied with mild sarcasm. Quickly, she kicked forward, hitting Sagestar in the stomach, hoping to send him backwards so she could get up again. "I suggest we call this even." She seemed slightly out of breath. "Besides, we both know I'll end up winning anyway." She grinned playfully. Now that that was over... she began to wonder why Sagestar was actually there. He was a long ways away from ShadowClan, after all. Then again, the same could be said about her.

If cats could raise eyebrows, he would've. She just couldn't let him win anyway, now could she? "Tch. 'Call it Even'." Sagestar repeated mockingly, "There's no ties in ShadowClan." The tom backed off of her, being thrown a little by her kick. The gray tabby scoffed again at her last little comment, batting her playfully across the ear in retort; though quickly ducking back because he didn't care for another wrestling match. He sat down and licked a turf of his chest fur, trying to settle down.
"What are you doing here?" Sagestar asked, flicking his tail. She was a while from home, and judging by her appearance and the scents - she'd been here a while.

Froststar rolled her eyes, plopping down on the stack of hay covering the barn floor and dipping her head down to dodge his paw. Shooting him a warning glance, she held back a smile. "That's because you are all too stubborn to say you lost."
At his question she began to study her paws very closely, avoiding his gaze. She debated on letting him know about her nightmares and lack of sleep. The she-cat almost brought it up, but something stopped her. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, she did, which scared her a bit how much she put her trust in the enemy. She just didn't want to appear weak in front of him. "I was on my way to speak with StarClan." She explained, decided to give the expected answer. "I decided to stay the night. And you?"

"It's because we don't lose. Ever." He said with a haughty smile, pausing before adding, "Everything else like when you first walked in - just a minor setback." He finished, shrugging with a little smug look on his face.
Sagestar gave her a slightly suspicious look, but said nothing for a few moments - as if he were carefully thinking over his words. "I was going to see them as well." He said quietly, shooting a glance out the exit and up at the terrible weather in the sky. "But its almost as if they didn't want to be bothered tonight." A solemn look covered the toms face for a few moments before he shook his head, pulling himself out of his thoughts. "I guess I can deal with putting up with you for one night." He meowed teasingly before breathing in the air, looking for prey. If they weren't visiting StarClan, there'd be no point in fasting tonight. Luckily, there were plenty of rats here.
"Watch how its done." The gray tabby meowed, his whiskers twitching as he leaped up onto hay stacks opposite of the room and taking a few moments to leap on top of his prey. He misjudged his movements, though, and slipped on the slick hay, nearly falling down the side. "Mouse-dung." The tom spat, embarrassed.

Froststar rolled her eyes at the smug comment, expecting that much from the tom. "Whatever you chose to believe. However, I will win eventually. It's inevitable." She put up a mock front of confidence.
After a moment, Froststar gave a indifferent shrug, not completely upset with staying in the barn for the night. It was warm, comfortable, and there was plenty of prey. Plus, the company wasn't horrible, though you wouldn't catch her admitting that out loud. "I suppose I'll just have to deal with you for now. We can head out in the morning, after this all clears up." She glanced his way and gave a dramatic sigh. "Until then, I'll just suffer through." Her eyes softened her words, sparkling and lighting up with the first flash of lightning.
The she-cat watched the ShadowClan tom hunt silently, choosing to ignore how graceful and comfortable he seemed to be. Though once he slipping she just laughed, the first real laugh in a long time. "I truly hope that's not how it's done in ShadowClan." Determined to show him up, she slipped into a hunter's crouch and looked around with narrowed icy eyes until she spotted a plump mouse. almost typed moose lul "Watch." She instructed as she slipped over to the animal, her feet sliding against the straw. The rodent was oblivious as a paw flashed out and ended its fragile life, so quickly it probably didn't even feel the pain. Scooping up the mouse, holding it lightly between her teeth, she turned to Sagestar with bright eyes. "That's how it's done in RiverClan." She spoke through the fur of the warm carcass, her words a bit muffled.

Sagestar flicked the end of his tail, "You seem a bit too confident about that." He meowed, his whiskers twitching in amusement.
The tom sniffed, "Speak for yourself. ShadowClan sleep in the day, and I'm not fond of the idea of walking out in that warm, muggy weather." He stretched out across the barn floor, giving her a wry smirk. "I don't think we're sleeping much tonight." Because they needed to hunt and eat, and he'd like a talking buddy, of course. Ahem. The tom feigned a look of disappointment at her obviously feigned sadness, "I know, StarClan forbid you have to be stuck near this dangerous fox killer. I understand if you're scared." He did a little cat-like flex and laughed it off under his breath.
Stubbornly, and proudly, he turned his head away from her snarky comment. "I almost had it. Bad luck is all." He muttered, "We're not hunters anyways." Still, he closely watched the she-cat. Her stance was slightly off, he noticed - her weight shifting forward as if she were trying to fish, or catch a vole; it bugged him. It had bugged them went they had met at apprentices too, and he'd tried to correct her on the "proper rat-catching technique", it'd only gotten her upset. A bit out of nowhere, he chuckled at the thought, glancing up as she showed off her rodent - a gleam in her eyes that he rather liked, not that he'd ever admit that. Well, he supposed he couldn't correct her anymore if she caught it and he hadn't, as damaging to his ego as that was. "Good catch." He muttered, narrowing his eyes and looking the other way. "You better share that."
