This Needs Conflict

Gingerheart was on a simple border patrol with whoever else decided to come with her (or whoever decides to post) as she came across the Highpine. As she padded up to the large tree, she stopped for a moment to take in the wonderful sight. The tree was one of her favorite places, especially since it was Feathersonf who had showed it to her first. As she got lost in her thoughts, it took a moment for her nose to register a strange smell from across the border. She then realized she was very close to Skyclan's territory.

IC: Silentfeather was gathering some herbs when she saw Gingerheart. "What are you doing?" she asked.

As soon as the medicine cat came into view, Gingerheart hissed at the rival clan member. "I'm just patrolling the borders. Making sure no one crosses it trying to steal our prey," she meowed in a slightly accusing tone, although as she talked, she noticed the herbs that the cat was collecting. She had to be a medicine cat, but Gingerheart didn't want to look foolish now. And besides, no other clan cat should be crossing the border: medicine cat or not. "So as long as you stay on your side of the border, I will let you keep all of your fur."

"Threatening a medicine cat is a little cowardly of you ask me."

Flamestar padded up to the border nearby, facing Gingerheart but not crossing the border. "She's just getting herbs." He huffed, managing barely to keep his voice from rasping. He was still sick, but stubborn Flamestar would go through anything to protect his clan.

Kestrelpaw scampered out of the bushes, peeking out behind Flamestar. She didn't say anything, just watched carefully.

Silentfeather mewed "Sorry about that then Gingerheart. Maybe we should drop it Flamestar, it's just herbs that caused this anyway."

"It's still not nice to challenge a medicine cat." Kestrelpaw said, poking her head out from behind Flamestar's legs.

As Flamestar approached, Gingerheart had to reach back into her memory to remember exactly who this cat was. She had only seen him once or twice at Gatherings, but his flaming pelt was kind of hard to forget. When she finally realized, she dipped her head to him as a sign of respect for the leader, but she soon lifted her head right back up and puffed out her chest, keeping her head high to show she wasn't afraid of them, only respectful. "I wasn't challenging her, and I hadn't noticed she was a medicine cat. But whether she is or she isn't, I was just warning her that she better not cross this border. This is Shadowclan's territory, and I have every right to defend it from any cat that crosses it. Even if she is merely collecting herbs," she meowed, spitting slightly in annoyance that all of them would gang up on her just like that.

"Medicine Cats have rules across the borders, so it would actually be fine if I accidently crossed." Silentfeather replied modestly. "I'll be getting back to camp now Flamestar, see you there." She mewed as she walked back, waiting until she was out of Gingerheart's sight before starting to cough.

Kestrelpaw padded foward, looking curously at the warrior. ” Do you know Mallowpaw?”

Flamestar held the warrior's gaze. "I'm well aware of that. But if you lay a claw on our medicine cat over something as ridicules as accidentally crossing the border, all of Skyclan will be aware." He counter-warned. Suddenly he calmed down and dipped his head slightly. "However I can't help to admire your loyalty slightly." He smiled, turning around and padding after the emdicine cat.

Kestrelpaw stood where she was. "Do you know who Mallowpaw is?" she repeated.

Gingerheart watched the Skyclan leader and medicine cat leave with a cold stare before she glanced down at the apprentice who still stood right where she was before. "Yes, I do know Mallowpaw. Why?" She asked, now slightly curious as to why a Skyclan apprentice would be asking for their Medicine Cat apprentice.

Kestrelpaw perked up. "Can you tell him his fellow medicine cat apprentice, Kestrelpaw, says hi! Please?" she begged the older warrior, not at all phased that the cat could easily hurt her.

"Mouse-brains." Sagestar came up behind Gingerheart, a growl holding in the back of his throat. "If any of them, including the medicine cats, take one step over the border - don't hesitate to shred them. The herbs on our land belong to us and SkyClan has no right to take them." He paused, just realizing that Kestrelpaw was still there and stared her down a little coldly.
