Rainkit was bored. Incredibly so. Bored and sick and tired of waiting in the nursery, waiting in camp, all that never ending waiting to become an apprentice. Why cpuldnt she be one now? She was skilled enough, and brave enough, and all the things enough, but all everyone ever said was wait. Wait and be patient. Well. What if she didn’t want to wait? What then? She’d already made a half/hearted attempt to sneak away through the nursery, but she’d got caught on brambles and had to be rescued; so she was never mentioning that again ever. What she wanted was something to do. If only someone would teach her to actually fight! She was a fighter born and bred; she would show them all when she was finally apprenticed. Then they’d all wonder why they hadn’t apprenticed her before. Yes. That was it.

The grey bengal spread out across a rock, watching the almost-full moon shine through the clouds. “I’m boreeeed,” she complained to anyone nearby. “Soooooo booooreeeeddddd.”
