A Starry Night and First Bites (open to wc)

Cloudykit fidgeted in the presence of Sootstorm and Tigerdance. She was grateful for Galekit being with her as she navigated what felt like unfamiliar territory. Her mind buzzed with unanswered questions, and she took a mental note to ask Galekit about the deputy and leader's roles later. There was so much about the clan structure that she was unfamiliar with.

She quickly nodded to address that the deputy spoke to her and her brother. "Everything is so new..." She mewed in reply. "There's so much to learn." She added. She felt a weird yearning for the future, where she had everything figured out.

She wasn't as excited about freshkill as her brother. She was grateful that it kept getting interrupted, as it allowed her to catch her nerves. She threw a quick glance at Sootstorm and Tigerdance, worried she was breaking unspoken rules, as she hesitantly took the first bite of their mouse. It was a small one. As she chewed, though, her eyes widened in surprise and she looked at Galekit expectantly. Wow! He's going to love it! She thought. And rabbit is better? That couldn't be possible.

Galekit

Galekit imagined eating hot, spicy stars. They would be crunchy, he decided privately, as he listened to his leader and deputy's musings. As he daydreamed about catching a star and bringing it back to the clan for the freshkill pile, the conversation faded away into the background.

His attention was brought back to the present when Sootstorm began speaking, more to Cloudykit than to him, but he enjoyed the fact his sister was getting some attention. At the mention of rabbit, his mouth began to water again and he looked down at the mouse, and then up at Cloudykit, a pleading look in his eyes.

He watched her take a tiny bite of the mouse and watched her expression change into one of pleasant surprise. He bent his head and took his own bite, a large, tender morsel, and the taste that exploded in his mouth was unfamiliar but satisfyingly rich and gamey. He suppressed a shiver. This is the greatest thing I've ever tasted! He thought. I can't imagine anything tasting better than this!

"This is delicious!" he announced aloud, looking up at Tigerdance and Sootstorm his huge, sparkling eyes.

Tigerdance was going to wait until the kits took their bites of their own food before he bothered with his own food. He knew his deputy wasn't exactly happy with the delay in Tigerdance in eating his own food, but it didn't matter. He was an older cat, he could survive without eating a little longer.

The striped leader watched the kits carefully, paying attention to their expressions as they both took their first bite, relieved to know they both liked it. "Maybe tomorrow the two of you can try Rabbit. It is what we hunt the most in Windclan." It was the prey he preferred but he knew in dire times he couldn't be picky. Finally satisfied with the kits reaction he went and took a bite of the rabbit, eating for the first time in a while today.
