If he had family - or even just a friend - maybe things wouldn't have gotten so out of control. All he needed was someone to make him sit still and admit there was something wrong in his head. Yet here he was with all fours racing across the moor once again, the sounds of barking growing more distant as he frantically widened the gap between him and the snarling beasts. He killed one hen on a farm that teemed with hundreds, and they sick the dogs on him?! The greed of man knew no bounds... Never mind that he had killed one yesterday and the day before that.

He came to a skidding halt as a familiar (and slimmer) figure suddenly poked her head out from behind the one place of shelter this forsaken grass field had to offer. In his anger, he tried to lash out at her for daring to get in his way when his life was on the line, but instead knocked his shoulder hard against the stump as the two rolled over a few times. A hiss escaped him, momentarily forgetting about the dogs far off in the distance as a new foe grabbed his attention. He leapt to his feet, shoulder aching. "I'm really not in the mood for this, moor-runner." His ears flicked backwards, trying to calculate how much time he had before slobbery fangs crushed his skull.

In spite of it all... Something within Grub enjoyed the noise he had brought on himself.

Nectarflower stalked through the moor, her muzzle raised as she tested the air for any trace of prey. However, it seemed as though even the rabbits and ticks knew better than to be out on a day like today. The wind was whipping in every direction seemingly at the same time, throwing promising scents into her face before promptly snatching them away again. After the third time of almost picking up a scent-trail, Nectarflower had just about had enough of the uncooperative winds.

By the time she heard distant barking almost completely muted by the roar of wind, Nectarflower had strayed considerably far from the rest of the hunting patrol. Her ears perked, trying to pick out any discernable noise, but it was no use. Even trying to scent where the dogs were was a near impossible task. However, any one of her clanmates could be the subject of the beasts' wrath! And after what happened to Weaselfoot all those moons ago, Nectarflower refused to let those slobbery monsters sink their teeth into her clanmates. She would lay her life down if necessary.

Creeping across the moor with her bellow low to the ground, Nectarflower found cover behind a solitary tree stump, her fur on end. What if she was too late? What if the dogs had already found her clanmates and killed them? Taking a deep breath to try to dispel her nerves, the tortoiseshell warrior peered around the edge of the stump, her eyes going wide at the sight of a familiarly unfamiliar tom before her. It was that rogue she'd fought - back before her daughter had been born!

Lips peeling back in a snarl, Nectarflower tried to lash out at the tom, but he was a little more prepared or...maybe not. Instead of his claws slicing into her, he rammed into the side of the stump with a resounding thump. Ouch, that sounded painful. With a hiss, the Windclan she-cat unsheathed her claws, tail lashing. "You don't have time for this!?" She growled. "Then maybe don't trespass on Windclan territory!"

Then, a deep bark echoed across the moor, making Nectarflower stiffen. She glared at the mangy-looking tom, nose wrinkled with annoyance. She didn't know how he had drawn the attention of those dogs, but it wasn't important. They were here now and if they didn't work together, those dogs would tear them apart. Gritting her teeth, Nectarflower stepped back, forcing her fur to lie flat. "There's no time to fight, we have to get out of here before they reach us."

Grub rolled his eyes so hard that he stumbled a little. He was getting real sick of that word: trespassing. Why did these forest cats insist that they owned everything? Nothing here was actually theirs; something they would know if they bothered stepping paw in the outside world. The wind whipped through the moors once again, drowning out the frantic and excited barks of three cattle dogs that were quickly closing the distance Grub had worked so hard to achieve.

"Work... Together?" Because that worked out great for him last time. He recalled a long-furred tom with amber eyes he had teamed up with against a fox, though his efforts were waisted when he got driven out immediately after helping him back to his clan. He was forced to lick his own wounds and heal by himself, though he was sure the stranger had no chance of making it regardless of his help. Not without human intervention. His yellow eyes narrowed. It wouldn't work in his favor to fight against the dogs. Not with a clan cat. A grin crept across his maw as he nodded, as though he agreed with her. "Yea. I have to get out of here before they reach you."

With dried grass and dirt from the moor wedged into his ragged claws, Grub lashed out at the clan cat with reckless abandon. If it was to save his own life, he would use her for all she was worth.

Grub used Front Paw Strike paired with Dirty Trick, dealing (8 + 7) (-2) totaling 13 total damage and costing 14 SP.

Nectarflower searched the mottled tom's expression for any sign that he would concede and at the very least agree to not fight her. With Starclan knows how many dogs on the loose, they didn't have any time to waste clawing at each other! She looked past the tom, scanning the grass for the dogs, but they still seemed far off. Good, they still had a little time. Just then, the wind kicked back up, muffling the frantic barking of the dogs, and the tom paused, seeming to consider her words. Jumping at the chance to convince him onto her side, Nectarflower nodded. "Yes! We don't even have to fight them, let's just get out of he-"

She trailed off slowly as the other cat spoke once more, talking over her. He was nodding - did that mean that he agreed with her? Ears pinned back, Nectarflower blinked as he continued, openly confused. Reached...her? What did he mean by that? Then, in a blur of movement almost too fast to track, the rogue launched forward, his dirty claws outstretched and aimed right at her. With a screech of alarm, Nectarflower darted to the side, panting in relief as his claws met empty air. However, a second attack she hadn't noticed came right after the first and the tortoiseshell she-cat hissed as claws raked down her flank.

The wound, while not particularly deep, hurt like fire! Snarling, Nectarflower swung around to face the rogue, her teeth bared and claws unsheathed. Using the momentum to her advantage, she swung out at the tri-colored tom. "Coward! I offer to help and you attack me!" Her claws met fur and flesh and, suddenly, Nectarflower was glad for all of the battle training Sootstorm had made her endure all of those moons ago.

Nectarflower used Dodge and Fight, negating the damage from Front Paw Strike!

Howling and barking was so much fun! The wind in their fur, the lolled out tongue, the barking, the howling!!! Three Blue Heelers bounded across the moor at the command of their human, and they would do their absolute best in bringing back whatever they could as justice for their prized rooster.

Heeler #1 came to a skidding hault as they approached a large stump, eyes catching the movement of two cats ripping into each other. Heeler #2 and #3 came to a stop beside him before splitting up and creating a hearding circle, their goal being to surround and overwhelm. Not a single one in the pack knew which cat had been the culprite, so both would have to go.

Heeler #1 used Iron Bite on Grub, dealing 10 damage and costing 30 SP.

A piercing screech ripped itself from Grub's throat as teeth met his left ear, ripping it from his skull. Blood pooled down his head, over his eye, and splashed to the ground at his paws as he frantically scrambled to get away. Fear gripped him as the wind suddenly turned towards him and the moor-runner: the dogs were here. He glared at the she-cat beside him as if it were her fault that he hadn't escaped in time.

Happiness comes the way the wind blows

The sounds of barking and howling had been carried across the moor to the ears of a nearby patrol, one that Sootstorm happened to be a part of. The tom ran as fast as he could towards the noises, and the closer he got the stronger the scent of dogs and blood was. And among them all... was Nectarflower. Another rouge stood beside her, both pelts dripping with blood that seemed not to come from the dogs but from each other. What in the name of StarClan was happening here? Whatever it was, he better help deal with the dogs first.

With a low growl, Sootstorm flung himself onto the closest dog, claws digging into it's pelt and tearing out fur and flesh. He knew he couldn't take on the three dogs, even if Nectarflower and the rouge helped. He could only prey that the rest of his patrol arrived soon.

Tallpaw pulled his head out from a rabbit warren with a scrawny rabbit clamped between his teeth. It was a juvenile, and he had barely managed to snag it but it was more than he usually caught. One of his large ears twitched, as the wind carried the rich tang of blood across the rolling slopes.The fur along his spine bristled as he heard the rabid howling of many dogs. Fear creeped in like an itch under his ribs, the noise itself was enough to send shivers down his spine. Then faintly, under the noise and the excited braying of the dogs, he heard the sounds of a struggle. Cold gripped every tight-snapping muscle in his body. A glance back towards his hunting patrol as they regrouped showed flattened ears and bristled tails all around. Tallpaw bounded up a rise and looked down to the soft dip of the hill’s base.

Three dogs, two familiar pelts, one unfamiliar pelt and a chaotic scene of blood and torn fur. With a battle cry exploding out of his chest the golden tabby pelted down the slopes towards the fray without hesitation. His fur puffed out so much he looked like a different cat. The scent of blood wafted so heavily from the scene it stung his nose. There was Nectarflower, bleeding and spitting. Sootstorm, with his claws sunk deep into a dog’s hide and some other unfamiliar cat whose face was a mask of blood.Growling the apprentice launched himself at the dog Sootstorm was fighting. A bitter sense of satisfaction broke open under his ribs as his teeth snapped down into the dog’s tail. He yanked it sideways with a savage shake of his head, unbalancing the dog while it was focused on Sootstorm.

Eaglefly was near by ish when he heard the sound of dogs approaching. He heavily considered just going the opposite direction and almost did exactly that till he heard a lot of his clanmates yelps and cries of battle beginning. He felt his fur stand up with worry, he didn’t want his friends to be in danger… but how in the world did they get caught up in this?

Getting to his paws he ran as fast as he could to the top of a nearby moor so he could get a better outlook on what was happening. The scene was a disaster! 3 dogs were all surrounding his clanmates… squinting he saw some other cat there who looked to be bleeding heavily already and a torn ear off!

Eaglefly felt uneasy as ever about this. He wished his brother kestrel was here, he would know what to do. With a sigh he charged to try and get an opening long enough for his clanmates to escape, if the dogs encircled them it would be a a disaster.

He targeted the same dog that he saw tall paw and sootstorm attacking.

The shrieks of cats and the howling of dogs were carried by the wind to a particular she-cat's ears. Finchspeckle was at first reluctant to rush to her clanmates' aid; it would only ruin her perfect fur that she had spent the whole morning grooming, and it's not like other cats couldn't deal with it. But with the wind came the unmistakable scent of her own mother, laced with fear and blood. Nectarflower! The dappled she-cat jumped to her paws, fur bristling as she ran as fast as she could.

The battle scene was horrifying. Three dogs towered over Sootstorm, Tallpaw, Eaglefly, Nectarflower and some rouge. What in the name of StarClan was going on here? Hissing, Finchspeckle lashed out at one of the dogs, striking first at it's muzzle then at it's eyes.

Finchspeckle used Front Paw Strike and Swift Strike on Heeler#2, dealing a total of 12dmg and costing 17sp

Nectarflower shrank away, her eyes wide with alarm, as the dogs descended upon them without a moment's notice. The wind must have drowned out the sound of their barking and, with her attention on fending off the rogue, she'd completely forgotten about them! Her pale green eyes danced from the tom to the blood-soaked dog, her pelt frizzy with horror. It...was it holding one of the tom's ears in its jaws! It was! She shuddered at the sight, her belly roiling with disgust.

She peered at the rogue with eyes wide as a full moon, her body completely frozen. That was bad. This was bad. There were three dogs and only two of them - how could they possible escape now!? Somehow, the tom found the energy to glower at her as if any of this could possibly be her fault! Regardless, he was injured really badly, and she would never forgive herself if she left him to the pack of dogs. Even if he had been insufferable and rude both times they'd met.

Finding her composure, Nectarflower swung her head to face the leader of the pack, her teeth bared. Fortunately, it was too preoccupied with the flesh in its mouth to notice her leveraging herself between the injured rogue and itself. With a defensive snarl, the tortoiseshell she-cat lashed out, slicing her claws through the lumbering beast's skin and sending droplets of bright red blood spattering to the ground. Without giving it a moment to realize what had happened, she lashed out again, raking her claws across its sensitive nose. Ha! Try to smell now!

There was still, however, the issue of escaping alive and now that she was in the action, her odds of doing just that seemed lower and lower. As she backed away, fur puffed out, the battle cries of several of her clanmates rose on the wind. Briefly, Nectarflower was relieved that help had arrived but as quickly as it came, it left. Sootstorm came first, followed by Tallpaw, Eaglefly and...oh Starclan...Finchspeckle! Nectarflower's heart pounded in her chest as her daughter threw herself into the fray, heedless of her own safety - just as a brave, selfless Windclan warrior should.

Despite knowing that her daughter was a capable warrior, Nectarflower couldn't bring herself to feel anything but absolute, all-encompassing terror. What if the dogs hurt Finchspeckle? What if they killed her!? Was her daughter destined to die just as her father, Weaselfoot, had? At the jaws of slobbering dogs?

Nectarflower used Front Paw Strike in combination with Desperate Blows, dealing 8 (+5) HP at the cost of 14 SP
