Across the open moors [open hunting patrol]

(i would like a limit of 4 cats in here,, make sure Katz can join in with Maple though ;0 )

Smallbean let out a sigh, the cold wind of Leaf-fall creeping into his fluffy fur. Having the wind in his pelt was always something he had enjoyed, but the coming of colder weather wasn't an idea he was too keen on. It was only a matter of time before the moors were covered in snow and icicles hung from every tree, bush, and frond. Shifting his gaze across camp, the tom pawed at the earth beneath him, trying to think of a way to relieve his itch to get out on the moors. His eyes soon catching the familiar form of Maplewhisker, he trotted up to the familiar she-cat and opened his mouth to speak. "Hey there Maplewhisker- uh... this might sound random, but would you mind going out on patrol with me?" He said the words loud enough for the cats around him to hear, in case any of them wished to tag along.

Maplewhisker was finishing eating a rabbit when she noticed Smallbean padding toward her.  The older warrior looked nervous, though that was normal for him.  As he asked her to come on patrol with her, she immediately knew that she wanted to.  "Of course!" she told him, getting up from her prey.

"Hey, Maplewhisker! Care to share a hare?" He asked, before noticing Smallbean. "Oh, uh, hey, Smallbean," Downtuft added awkwardly. Socializing wasn't his strong point, not even with his kin he'd defend so fiercely. He caught the tail end of the small tom's words and nodded towards him, eyes sparkling mischievously at Maplewhisker. "Care if I tag along?"

Pleased to see that the warrior accepted, he turned toward the camp entrance ready to leave- that was, before noticing Downtuft with a hare. Was he there before he approached? "Oh- um..." He was about to tell Maplewhisker that she could go eat a hare with Downtuft as he didn't want to interrupt until the tom offered to come with them. "Oh- sure, you can come along, i don't mind." And with that he led the way out of camp. It felt... odd, leading a patrol. He certainly didn't like it, so he slowed down to walk alongside his clanmates. Following a path he knew well, he went to a different place than his normal go-to hunting spot. Instead of going to the thin patch of trees, he instead chose a spot on the moor which had many ridges and small hills, ideal for rabbits, hares, and other prey to be hiding. Turning to the two warriors, he uncertainly glanced at them before speaking. "I think this would be a good place to hunt- i guess you guys can go ahead and catch prey..." Letting out a deep breath, he followed the scent trail of a hare to the top of a certain ridge. Peering down the other side, he saw the hare eating the berries off of a shriveling bush, probably the last ones it would grow until Newleaf. Sneaking up behind the rabbit, he crept across the ground, until... *snap!* The rabbit looked around toward him and ran away, vanishing in the blink of an eye. What had he stepped on!? Looking underpaw he saw a broken twig. Feeling his ears grow hot with embarrassment, he turned around, thankful to see that no cat had witnessed his failure.

Maplewhisker walked beside Downtuft, following Smallbean out of camp and up onto the moor.  The leaf-fall air was crisp, and carried scents from all around them.  She shivered, saddened that the warmth of greenleaf could be so fleeting.  Her gaze drifted to the few golden brown leaves that littered the vast landscape.  Soon most of the trees would look like dead branches stuck in the ground, rid of their colorful leaves.  Smallbean slowed down, closing the gap between him and Maplewhisker and Downtuft.  She understood how he felt,  it could be intimidating leading a patrol if you weren't used to it.

Smallbean suddenly broke away from them with his head to the ground, leaving Maplewhisker to believe he was following a scent trail.  She left him to it, scenting for her own prey to catch.  Scents washed over her, brought in from the wind being swept over the sandy ridges.  The particular scent of hare came to her nose, and she stalked along its trail.  It led along the top of a ridge and into a small valley.  Maplewhisker could see the hare just up ahead, slowing her pawsteps as to not alert the creature.  When she was well within range, she darted forward, the hare lifting its head in surprise.  It took off, Maplewhisker in pursuit.

The hare circled in any direction it could, looking for any way to escape Maplewhisker's thorn-sharp claws.  It was unfortunate, for she quickly overtook it, and leaped square onto it, delivering a clean killing bite to the back of its neck.  She sat down for a moment, thanking StarClan for the catch they had easily given her, before starting to retrace her steps back to her Clanmates.  Her catch in her jaws and her tail held high, she reached the spot where they had broken away from each other and sat, waiting for the others to return.
