Leaf-fall was finally rearing its head. Cool nearly freezing winds pulled at the leaves and grasses of Four-trees, Dew was much quicker to collect on the plants and rocks than usual, wetting the paws of the arriving felines.
The moon looked cold, although not so distant on this night, but something about it just seemed… frightening, to those more observant or spiritually inclined than others. Regardless, there would be no feeling of comfort from the cat's ancestors that night.

She should have been thankful for her plethora of clanmates. Should have felt never-ceasing gratitude in the fact that they had many members among their ranks, all of them strong. Strong genetics that carried them forward. But now... Now, doubt swirled the small tortoiseshell's paws as she made her way into the clearing. A deep, disturbing, sickening rumble in her belly seemed to never end. Prey had been there, then it had not. Such a worry was at the absolute forefront of her mind, especially as the chill seemed to hit just a little harder. Strike a little deeper. Desperately, the tortoiseshell hoped that it was not an ill omen. Enough gatherings had ended in harsh disruption, all signs pointed to this one being the end of the small breath of peace they once had.
Strength. She had to be strong. Drawing upon whatever reserves of it she had stored deep within her, she held her head higher. Stood as the strong Thunderclan leader she was, and would continue to be. Her Clan had been through the depths of the Dark Forest and back, she would not lose them now. After all, prey came and went. It was a natural consequence of having such a large Clan, and they would survive. They always did.
They always did.
Giving Acornstem a slightly solemn nod as they were the first to arrive, Mottlestar took her spot atop the Great Rock. She observed her clanmates from below, the struggle of a mother desperately hoping to help her kits seeming to hide beneath the smile that didn't fully reach her eyes. They would be okay. They had to be okay. She would make sure they were okay. Silently, she rolled through her announcements that were in her head... and waited to see the pelts of her allies come to the clearing, too.
Subject: Re: October Gathering 2023 Sun 1 Oct 2023 - 10:18
Acornstem's tail was raised - an effort to seem more cheerful as she followed Mottlestar into the Gathering. Her own stomach was rumbling but she did her best to ignore it as she returned her leader's nod, padding forward to take her own spot at the base of the rock. The lack of prey was...Concerning. It had slowly been growing harder to feed all of their cats, mainly their ever-growing apprentices, but she could never expected the sunrise when the patrols started to return with nary a feather between them. She had even started to go out on patrols again to investigate but...Nothing. They were lucky if a patrol brought back one or two things now.
Where had the prey gone...?
Already, she was trying to consider their next steps - they had so many cats and a pawful bigger than any other cat in the forest. She could go without meals if she had too, even if the thought made her stomach rumble even louder. As deputy, it was her job to keep her Clan safe. If the other Clans were doing better, maybe they could speak with Birdstar and Perchstar...? But if their forest was running low, she couldn't imagine SkyClan's territory was doing better as their border only existed to them and not the prey.
She shook her head - there was so much uncertainty. She had heard that prey could run thin every few seasons but nothing like this...! There was little to be done, at least until they knew how the rest of the Clans were faring but that would have to wait until the actually all arrived.
Subject: Re: October Gathering 2023 Sun 1 Oct 2023 - 12:06
Perchstar was sure by now that the stars hated her, personally.
Every time she found a moment of peace--every time she was even close to relaxing from the massive weight that always rested upon her shoulders--it would crash down upon her, and it was all she could do to remain standing. The fish were dying. The waters ran dark. The river, for which they were named, the thing that kept them alive and kept them safe, was failing them. It seemed as if the world would end.
For now, her stomach hungry, her legs wishing to collapse beneath her, Perchstar led the way into Fourtrees. All she could hope was that the other Clans were faring better or that this was temporary. However, as she saw the desperate look to Mottlestar's eyes upon the Great Rock, the RiverClan leader's hopes sank. The full moon seemed cold, empty, distant. There was no hope to be had. Maybe it is a temporary problem, she tried to convince herself. Maybe next moon everything will return to normal. But, even imagined, the words rang hollow.
Perchstar turned for just a moment to exchange a glance with Poppyshine, and a small nod. It was all she could do to express her emotion. She couldn't offer any words of comfort, because there was no comfort within to show. All she could do was look at her dearest friend, eyes searching hers, before she turned away to continue her duties. She leapt atop the Great Rock, the movement as graceful as ever despite how difficult it was to keep her paws from trembling. No platitudes crossed her lips. As she looked at Mottlestar, there was no point in speaking empty words. She could tell that things were wrong... and unfortunately, she could guess what the problem might be. A simple, heartfelt question was the only thing that she could manage. "...Are you all right?"

Cinderpaw, RiverClan
Much had happened since the last gathering. She had finally begun to get the hang of catching prey, she had made a group of friends for herself. Life was good, and she had been pleased with how her training had been going. Slow still, she wasn't all that great, but progress was progress...
And now she didn't know what way was up. She was more so tired now than hungry, her movements more slow and her thoughts felt sluggish. It was like she had just woken up from an unintended long nap. The din of voices in the gathering were quieter, too. Maybe some didn't have the energy to travel...
She tiptoed her way to an off-side of the clearing to sit. She didn't feel much like talking, or actively seeking company. If someone approached, she would do her best. She wondered if the fish felt as sad as this in their ruined water.
Cinderpaw is quite put-out, but otherwise open to be approached!

Sprucebark was troubled by the recent river poisoning. Looking at his leader she seemed just as concerned. This gathering could not have been at a worse time for them. Looking at his own clanmates, cinderpaw also seemed to be showing signs that this was not going well.
He looked around, maybe someone from thunderclan would be open to talk, he could see how their allies were fairing. He didn't know how much Perch planned of reveiling about all this so he made sure to not let anything of their recent troubles slip.
Sprucebark wants to talk to someone
Bluepaw looked around the clearning, with only river and thunder here it wasnt packed yet. After they arrived he gave a little quiet nod do his mentor Goldenfern and went to explore.
Noticing another apprentice aged looking cat who smelled of riverclan he approched with a little wave. He was shy but had heard that riverclan was their friend and alligned clan for the most part, and he had been told to talk wiht others at gatherings.
"I'm bluepaw" he introduced in a shy whisper.
"mind if we stick together this gathering?"
Bluepaw is talking with Cinderpaw

Vinepaw padded in behind his clanmates, a foul look on his face as his stomach growled louder than ever before. He had never been without food - his large, growing body always demanding far more than two meals a day. But now he and the rest of his clanmates were without. His father was right. What a pitiful forest.
Vinepaw is open to talk to, but he's hangry.
Expression still as stone, Firefly gave no hint that she was hungry (minus the occasional stomach gurgle). Her biggest peeve was that it had started to grow cold again, her thin fur doing nothing for her. She would stay huddled near her clan for warmth.

Blazefang hadn’t been this hungry in a long time. This felt like when WindClan lived alongside ShadowClan at Highstones, both clans struggling to get enough to eat. Ears flattened, she shook off the memory. They had allies on two borders. Surely there wouldn’t be any unnecessary fights. Although ShadowClan being just across the Thunderpath was far from comforting… Blazefang is not available, I have plans.
Sageroot is experiencing sensory overload from extreme hunger and has remained home.

Birdstar
A shroud of unease fell heavily around Birdstar as she approached the clearing. There was enough on her mind as it was: even with the moon or so removed from it, Trufflesnap's death at her own paws still took up many of her thoughts; Beechfang, too, another worry that never seemed to dissipate but which had strengthened following her own execution and the loss of her daughter just days apart; thoughts of more foxes suddenly invading their home, of calamity taking the forest again, of this or of that. There was never an end to it. But now, as green-leaf faded and leaf-fall began to make its appearance more formally, SkyClan found themselves with a sudden lack of prey.
Birdstar picked her chin up to descend into the hollow, carrying herself as powerfully as she could. But hunger gnawed at her hollow stomach, and her paws shook with the effort it took to move forward. Her eyes slid towards the Great Rock, thankful to see only Perchstar and Mottlestar assembled-- and a little frustrated with herself she had not even noticed the scents that filled the air before continuing on. Giving herself a small shake, Birdstar persisted across the clearing, pausing briefly at the base of the Rock to press her head to Wolfblossom's before leaping up to take her place beside the other she-cats.
Her jaw parted briefly to attempt well-wishes, but looking upon the other leaders proved to be only a mirror of her own haggard state. Birdstar faltered, eventually shutting her maw with a soft click of her teeth. The small section of the river that bordered them had turned sour recently, though she'd held some hope it had not spread through all the waters, had not tainted RiverClan's homeland; and while it wasn't so easy to assess ThunderClan's state just from peering across the border, the chittering of distant squirrels and rodents was gone from the Fallen Oak as well. Whatever shift had stolen the forest's prey was not only SkyClan's problem, it seemed-- an understanding that brought as much twisted relief as it did heavy concern. "Hello," she mewed eventually, softly. "How are you? Both of you. I doubt well, but..." her thick tail waved side to side and Birdstar shook her head with it. "Still. Maybe I mean to ask if you're both well, or alright, instead."

He hoped something would happen this gathering to help the clan out.

All Hail SkyClan's Resident Disney Princess
thymepaw
No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing.
Thymepaw silently padded into Fourtrees alongside her Clanmates. She hadn't attended the last Gathering, but that hadn't saddened her. She wasn't quite sure what her opinion on Gatherings was anymore. She was still trying to come to terms with who she was and who she would have to be for the rest of her life, and honestly being present at a Gathering was the least of her worries. Still, she marched on. She was still willing to talk. Thymepaw had to remind herself constantly that, even in the midst of whatever internal struggles she had going on, she was still put in the forest to spread kindness. That was she wanted to do, and she couldn't do that if she closed herself off. She kept an approachable expression as she settled in to Fourtrees. There would be peace tonight... hopefully.

Fawnshine
Fawnshine knew of this haunting weather. A bitter coldness both dry and uncomfortable pulling at their skin; a rare occurrence that beat even Leaf-bare in competition of harshness. It was this season that herbs became more scarce, and predators lurked upon them more often than prey did. Walking into the Gathering with gritted teeth, she silently thanked her coat of fur for protecting her from the biting chills threatening to creep up her spine.
One look at the rest of the clans that came forth, and she knew for sure they weren't the only ones facing such problems. After all, the difficult weather seemed to take its toll on everyone; from the largest felines to much smaller ones. She could only hope their clan would be fine, as it had been through plenty of hardships. Still, she could not help but reflect back to the prophecies echoing in her mind—the haunting insinuation of worse times to come, and the bloodied figure of the sobbing cat breaking down in delivering the caution. She cringed inwardly at the memory, hoping to shake it away, but to no avail.
For now, she sat towards the edge of the Great Rock; offering Mottlestar and Acornstem a silent look of encouragement, and hopefully, comfort.
Fawnshine is open to talk to!
thrushnose
The coughs and rumbling stomachs of hunger worried him, especially now that it came from his clanmates and not himself. He could be fine if he went with less food for a while—but not them. They needed it more; they were still growing. Thrushnose remained close to his apprentice, tail wrapped around Vinepaw's body in silent comfort from the cold. Despite being young, the tom was already nearly large enough—if not a bit larger than his own size.
Thrushnose is sitting with Vinepaw and is open for convo!
Hawkshriek
Hawkshriek frowned, staying close to his clanmates in hopes of getting some share of warmth during this harsh season. He was grateful for his thick coat of fur—though that didn't mean the cold didn't bite at his skin, or that the rest of his clan didn't suffer, too. Deciding to opt for someone more familiar instead, the tom approached Sprucebark and sat down beside him, offering his brother a wry smile.

Poppyshine
Poppyshine could feel the heavy weight on her clan as they walked through the forest towards Fourtrees. Hunger sat like a stone in all of their stomachs. She had been trying to work extra hard on her hunts to find extra food. The previous leafbare had not been terrible, but she still recalled the tail end of leafbare from her childhood, where everything was starkly cold and there was so little food to go around. She thought she would remain kit-sized forever with how little food there was, but kits were always able to eat first. RiverClan had no kits now through this hard time, but she tried to leave enough food for the apprentices since they were still growing.
She lifted her head and tried to put on some cheer as she approached the deputy’s spot. She only saw Acornstem, but guessed that Wolfblossom would arrive soon, since Birdstar was on the Great Rock. For now, she smiled tiredly at Acornstem. “It’s nice to see you again.” She sat beside her ally and tucked her tail over her paws to fight against the chill in the air. “Is your prey also playing games of hide-and-seek with you?”
Crookedlight was tired. He had not struggled with food in this manner before, and it left him feeling exhausted. He and Rainfrost were working double time to search for prey, but they found very little and the ones they did find were thin and hardly of any food to the clan at all. Crookedlight found he was having dreams of his time at the Twolegplace, when the twoleg would give him treats of canned tuna. The dreams startled him. He was no kittypet, but the longing for the food made him rather worried.
He looked to his companion and gave Rainfrost another charming smile. “It looks like the whole clan is quiet today. I’d guess SkyClan isn’t the only one suffering.”
Crookedlight is talking with Rainfrost and will follow his lead if he wants to socialize.
Larkpaw’s irritation grew with the lack of food. He could not seem to hunt successfully, and the lack of food only added to his exhaustion. He found himself chewing on old reeds just to give himself the illusion of eating. His only comfort was that it was obvious he was not the only one struggling to hunt. He wished he knew how to fix this forest-wide problem.
His eyes brushed over the clearing while he stuck close with Rookpaw. He spotted Cinderpaw and considered moving towards her, but then some ThunderClan apprentice started speaking with her first. Larkpaw felt his fur bristle and he looked away with a scowl. “Let’s find somewhere to lie down and wait for this to be over with,” he grumbled to Rookpaw.
Larkpaw is with Rookpaw! and totally isn’t jealous of anything
Willowpaw entered the Gathering with her head held high. Things were tough in RiverClan right now, but she would not let that get her down. RiverClan was still strong, and while their river was poisoned and it made staying hydrated difficult, she believed in her medicine cats to keep them healthy and their warriors to find alternate food sources. It would be hard, but she knew that RiverClan would prevail.
Perhaps it was this determined confidence that finally pushed her to speak to cats outside of her clan for once. She drifted off from RiverClan and looked around as she walked until she spotted an apprentice sitting with another ThunderClan warrior. His mentor, perhaps? Regardless, she approached then and offered a small bow of her head. “Hello. It is nice to meet you both.” She took a seat in front of them. “I am Willowpaw of RiverClan. May I ask your names?”
Willowpaw is speaking with Vinepaw and Thrushnose.

Leopardstar had debated not showing up to the Gathering, to give her Clan time to recover after they were so suddenly assaulted in their own camp, but she also didn't want to give the rest of the forest any reason to think they were weak. Nor did she want to keep the warriors and apprentices that looked forward to socializing with the other Clans from doing so if it wasn't strictly necessary.
She ascended the Great Rock with only a moment's hesitation, growing more and more used to her position. It gave an interesting view of the clearing, she was realizing; a different perspective. Was this how she was meant to see things, now? From up above everyone else?
"Hello," she offered to the other leaders in lieu of her usual greeting. She couldn't bring herself to say something like I trust you've been well in the current circumstances without feeling like a liar.
ShadowClan may now enter the Gathering!Scarletpaw sauntered into the Clearing with his usual arrogant flair. Just because things were difficult was no reason to showcase it; he would act the same as ever.
Scarletpaw is open to talk to!Lightningbreeze followed Birdstar into Fourtrees, looking forward to seeing the other Clans again. Even the worst of situations couldn't do all that much to dampen her high spirits; after all, wasn't that when they were needed most?
Lightningbreeze is open to talk to!Nightdancer settled herself at the edge of ThunderClan's gathered cats, the same place she usually took. It wasn't often that anyone approached her, and she couldn't blame them too much, but part of her hoped someone might this time.

With cobwebs tightly binding a few wounds, Lighttail began her descent into Fourtrees. Worry clouded her mind as she passed one cat after another. All of them bore the marks of hunger, even the SkyClan cats. Would Stoatclaw be okay? Lighttail is looking for Stoatclaw.
One could practically knock Sunflare over with a feather. The already skinny warrior was weak with hunger, but he had to come to this Gathering, had to show himself to be a key warrior of ShadowClan even with everything that had gone wrong lately. Sunflare is open.
