Why Not a Hunt? [OPEN hunting]

Thornstalker hadn't even had a chance to catch anything yet. As soon as she wanted to the owl had made itself known. Hopefully she would still have her chance now that everything had settled down. She didn't need to be one of the only ones to not catch something.. She just hoped luck would be on her side today. The small she-cat had to go a decent distance to finally be able to track down a squirrel. She relied on muscle memory to help her catch the piece of prey.

The pale warrior was quick to kill the squirrel as soon as she caught it. Thornstalker decided to bury the prey anyway, even if she wasn't sure if they would return to camp soon or not.

It didn't take long for the owl to fall to the Skyclanners' claws, and one set was noticeably not among their clanmates despite being on the patrol. Wolfblossom's head lifted to find Stormwatcher, who had caught his own prey while they fought. Risky, foolish. Pale blue eyes narrowed at the tom. "Stormwatcher." A single word, quiet and disapproving as she shook her head. "You are lucky it was only an owl the four of us had under control. And that nothing else decided to interrupt your hunting." His apprentice had leaped into the fight without hesitation, and Wolfblossom was glad to see that Stonepaw hadn't inherited her mentor's selfish streak. Tail tip twitching in irritation, Wolfblossom turned her gaze toward Marigoldmask.

"Are you alright?" Wolfblossom asked. It seemed she was okay, but she would make sure those scratches were seen to in any case. "We might be able to salvage some of the feathers for nest lining. It'll come back with us. We can continue if you're up to it." And with that Marigoldmask and Thornstalker had gone off to find catches of their own.

"Good catch, both of you." Wolfblossom mewed.

Stonepaw kept quiet as the owl fell to their claws, though Wolfblossom's sharp words to her mentor didn't go unnoticed. The apprentice stared at him in disbelief for a moment, more surprised than she perhaps should have been. An ear twitched at Wolfblossom's words - the deputy was right, she thought.

(Disclaimer... Storm is kinda hard to write at times and its also 2:40 am so pfff umm dont take this post as too canon if that makes sense?  All im trying to say is im cranking this out super late on no sleep so yeaaa dont judge his personality entierly from this post as its quality is probably... mehhh at best lol)

Stormwatcher held his catches and blinked suprised.  He was suprised that Wolf was upset with him this much... it was just an owl he had figured... 4 cats should be more than enough to handle that he thought to himself.

She just loves finding reasons to be upset with me he thought a bit gloomily with a sigh.


"I made a judgement call that you would be able to handle it" he gestured to the dead owl that was torn to shreds and clearly stood no chance

"I wasnt exactly wrong.  And besides, our goal also is to feed the elders and kits" he said trying to keep his voice level and keep his annoyedness out of it.

He was self centered alot and although training Stonepaw had helped alot with it, there was still a habit that was set.  It wasnt unchangable but it would take more time.

Besides, his progress was decent, moons ago he wouldnt even be on this hunting trip, at least he was giving half a mouse tail about the clan now and trying to keep the queens, kits and elders fed...

Geez next she will want me to line the nests with my own pelt fur he thought a bit that this was a bit unfair for him.


However, if there was any cat that Storm cared about other than himself it would be Stonepaw and seeing her expression of a little disapointment bothered him a little not that he would ever admit that or show it.  Hngg.

"I knew you would be able to handle it Stonepaw" he said confidently before walking off.  That compliment better not go to her head he thought quietly. A compliment from Stormwatcher was pretty much never for her and this was as close as she was gonna get directly,

Dont get me wrong, he loved watching her progress as they trained together but he wouldnt be caught dead saying such things aloud. Relationships and family had only lead to pain in the past and the last thing he needed was getting all close to a bunch of these clanmates, it was bad enough he cared so much about Stonepaw he thought to himself.

Next time that owl could just have easily been a badger and Marigold would be Marigone. He wasnt ready to go through that pain again, much easier to lose a coworker and clanmate than to lose a friend and someone you allowed to get close.
