One simple trick (closed)

Sablestrike had taken notice of all the new faces that had filled Shadowclan since his return, and he knew most of them by name now. Not everyone would be privy to such knowledge however, and he had used this advantage to coerce his fellow clanmate into accompanying him to the nursery under the guise of helping him meet some of the newer faces that he might have missed. It felt way too simple to him, but it seemed like she-cats liked kits. Leopardsun certainly did with how many she had popped out, and it seemed that Harrierpaw was no different. Perhaps that love for kits was something that all she-cats subconsciously shared? Not that he was complaining, it gave the warrior an excuse to spend some time with Harrierpaw, even if her attention would be on the tiny things instead of... Huh...

All thoughts quickly left the tom's head as he stepped through the entrance to the nursery. They were useless thoughts indeed, all he needed to know in this moment was how to properly greet these kits. That was another reason he had needed Harrierpaw. He had no clue how to act around kits, and his last interaction had ended with both him and the kit leaving camp. He was an absolutely stunning role model. "You." A black paw pointed at one of the nursery kits. "May I have a word?" Something like that, right?

Sagekit glanced over at the nursery entrance as two cats-- a warrior and an apprentice-- slid into the nursery. maybe they were here to fix the ceiling; there were still some holes here and there. what he did not expect was for the warrior to jab a black paw in his direction.

"May I have a word?"

Wha- did he do something wrong? What was he supposed to say? Was this... was this normal? The gray tabby blinked blankly at the two cats before stammering out a reply: "S-sure...?"

Oh dear... Maybe Sablestrike's tone was okay when addressing another warrior or perhaps his own apprentice (though still pretty rude), but it was not appropriate when interacting with a kit. She flicked him with her tail. "Don't mind him." Harrierpaw's tone was soft, friendly. "You've done nothing wrong. We'd just like to meet our newest member of ShadowClan!"

"You've done nothing wrong. We'd just like to meet our newest member of ShadowClan!"

Oh, so the apprentice is the one who wanted to visit the kits, and the warrior is just tagging along. Perhaps they are friends? Either way, it seemed he would have the entertain these cats for a while.

"Uh, yeah, I was born three quarter moons ago," Sagekit said with a hint of sarcasm.

Erm, maybe not like that then? "I'm... Sorry? For making you think you did something wrong?" Stars, it wasn't his fault. If this kit truly hadn't done anything then why did he sound so guilty? I really do not care how old you are. Sablestrike had to restrain himself from saying that, though he desperately wanted to. Instead, he just asked "What's your name, kit?" He tried to emulate Harrierpaw's tone, though something about it felt off to him.

OOC: It's okay, life can be annoying sometimes

Sagekit could sense that the warrior really did not want to be here. "My name's Sagekit," He introduced, trying his best not to snap at the tom. Turning instead to the apprentice, he tried as sweetly as he could to ask, "And may I be graced with the knowledge of yours?"

Harrierpaw smiled a little at Sablestrike trying to mimic her way of talking to the kit. It didn't suit him, but it was nice that he was trying at all. That counted for something.

Her attention turned to Sagekit who seemed to purposefully not ask for Sablestrike's name in return. "I'm Harrierpaw. It's nice to meet the future of ShadowClan." She nudged the warrior next to her, silently telling him to share his name too. Sagekit may grow up to be a greater handful.
