Light as a feather, sweet as honey (closed spar)

Honeypaw

Honeypaw was bouncing on his feet as he joined Lightpaw, a purr already rumbling from his throat. “Hey Lightpaw!” He greeted happily, lightly bumping his shoulder against hers as he came up next to her. His shoulder sometimes still had twinges of pain from his injuries during the flood (something he had been told was a result of Honeypaw waiting so long to get treatment) but it was okay overall. And thankfully it didn’t hurt today, which was good, because Honeypaw was excited for his spar with Lightpaw.

He and Lightpaw had been denmates for a long time now, and he was honestly surprised he hadn’t spent more time one-on-one with her. He wanted to make up for lost time now after they had been split up by the flood. It had been weird sleeping without her and the other apprentices nearby. He was determined now that he would spend more time with Lightpaw and his other clanmates and appreciate them while he had them. He was also happy to fall back into the normal, familiar motions of training.

“You ready to get started?” Honeypaw grinned as he bounced in front of Lightpaw. He crouched down in a playful challenging pose, tail swishing behind him. “I’m tougher than I look, just you watch!” He giggled. Not that he looked particularly weak, he was a rather large cat, especially as he got older.

Honeypaw gave a mock-offended gasp, then laughed as he bounded away and out of her reach for a moment. “That’s what I get for getting cocky, I guess.” He giggled, tail swishing. He crouched down again and then bounded forward to knock Lightpaw back with a headbutt. Although he still was careful with how much weight he was putting down, of course not wanting to actually hurt Lightpaw. “Gotcha back, though!”

Honeypaw used Headbutt, dealing -4 damage and costing 5 SP!

Honeypaw

Honeypaw felt a small shock of concern at seeing Lightpaw stumble and take a second to recover, worried he had misjudged his own strength and hit her too hard. He was just about to ask if she was okay when her claws grazed him, and he danced away instinctively. His smile returned and he relaxed and fell back into the familiar motions of the spar.

He shook his head to clear it, giving Lightpaw a bright, challenging grin. He wiggled a bit then jumped forward to jump onto Lightpaw and pin her down. He knew he needed to get the upper hand again if he wanted to win the spar. Despite the rough sparring and him rapidly beginning to pant from exertion, Honeypaw was also purring with delight.

Honeypaw used Leap and Hold, dealing -6 damage and costing -15 SP. Lightpaw is pinned for two turns!

Honeypaw giggled, cheeks warming with a mixture of shyness and delight at the compliment. “Look who’s talking!” He said. “You’ve been kicking my butt this whole spar.” He wrinkled his nose playfully at her, then puffed out his chest a bit. “I think we’re both going to be warriors in no time. And then we’ll kick butt together!” The thought made him feel even more warm inside. There was a point in his apprenticeship where he fretted if he'd ever truly become a warrior. Now it felt like it was more and more of a possibility every day. He felt like he had truly grown up.

Honeypaw grinned, straightening up as Lightpaw wiggled away. “Now I’m gonna getcha!” He said with a giggle, before he moved forward and swiped at Lightpaw. He was, of course, careful with his claws so as to not actually hurt her, but still got a good hit in.

Honeypaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing -6 damage and costing -7 SP.

Honeypaw

Honeypaw fell for the fakeout, moving defensively to try and prevent the nip, but only knocking himself off balance. However, as luck would have it, Iceheart had recently worked with him on avoiding his underbelly getting slashed in a similar manner, so Honeypaw twisted to escape Lightpaw’s back paws.

He moved defensively, protecting his most vulnerable spot, and moved to pin Lightpaw down instead. It all happened so quickly he was honestly a bit surprised when he came out on top, breathing hard from the struggle. Then he grinned again, laughing as he hopped off of Lightpaw and helped to nudge her back to her feet.

“Wow, that was really good!” He said, genuine admiration in his voice. “You almost got me. I thought I was doomed for a second there!” He giggled.
