Catching Up (c)

Dappledlight walked alongside Snowfoot through the open pine forest, the pale dusk light illuminating their figures. They had gone out to hunt and spend some time together. "How have you been, Snowfoot?" she questioned. Life had been going pretty good for her, recently, and she hoped her sister was being treated the same. Her paws brushed lightly as she looked around for any sign of prey. There didn't seem to be any yet, so she turned her attention back to Snowfoot.

Snowfoot sighed. “You mean, aside from edgy apprentices and rambunctious kits? Pretty well. Mostly I can just hardly believe Frostgaze is the leader now.”

"I'm sure that you'll be able to handle it. Frostgaze will make a great leader, after all, he's a loyal and dedicated warrior," Dappledlight meowed. She wished to be able to train an apprentice sometime. They're the future of the clan, so she would want to provide a good foundation for their life as a warrior. Kits were a different story. They were an important part of the clan, but she didn't know if she wanted them. Maybe one day.

“So, what about you?” Snowfoot asked. “Anything particularly interesting going on in your life?”

"Ehh, not much more than the usual. I've been hanging out with a few new cats, though." It was nice to get to know other cats better. She wasn't much one for socializing, preferring to keep to the close friends she already had. Like Snowfoot.

“You know, I was consider putting in a word to Frostgaze and Nightstalker for you to mentor one of my kits,” Snowfoot said. “Is that okay with you?”

"Oh, yes, that'd be nice," she meowed, "I promise to train them well." Maybe her dreams of training an apprentice would come sooner than she thought. A small inkling of doubt formed in the back of her mind, telling her that she was too inexperienced to take on the responsibility. She tried to push it away, but it still sat there, causing an ever so slight panic.

“So, how about a little hunting?” Snowfoot asked, wiggling her rump a little. “Might as well grab something for the clan while we’re out here!”

Dappledlight nodded and lifted her nose towards the sky. The scent of a frog wafted towards her, and she followed after it. She spotted the frog and crept forward, making sure to stay downwind. She surged forward, smacking a paw down on the frog. She then delivered a swift bite to its neck. She picked up the now dead frog and buried it between the roots of a large pine.

Dappledlight successfully caught a frog, costing 3 SP! Bonus +2 to hunting roll!

Snowfoot smiled as her sister nabbed a frog. Good catch, she thought but didn’t say out loud to avoid scaring off any prey. Soon, she found the scent trail of a frog of her own. Crouching low, she stalked through the marsh, trying to keep her pawsteps light so as not to alert her prey. Success! Her landing when she pounced wasn’t the most elegant, but she caught the frog! She padded over to a tuft of grass and deposited her prey.

Snowfoot caught a frog! 3 SP but seriously. It would take 40 prey items to exhaust her so I don’t usually count.

Dappledlight gave Snowfoot a small smile of praise, or at least she hoped that was how it would be perceived. She had started to wander around again when a small noise alerted her. A lizard was scuttling nearby. She slowly started to stalk towards it until she was in pouncing range. She leaped towards the tiny creature but slipped on the pine needles underfoot. She let out a soft growl and gave chase to the quickly escaping prey. Darting after it, Dappledlight was able to just barely catch it. She returned to the tree where she buried the frog and added the lizard. She was disappointed in herself for the clumsy hunt. She knew that she could do much better and that the slip-up probably scared off the other prey that was around.

Dappledlight’s fumble did indeed startle nearby prey, but it wasn’t necessarily a lost cause. Snowfoot’s ears perked up as she heard the alarmed squeak of a mouse. Her head whipped around in the direction of the noise, and she could hardly believe her eyes. The mouse had been scared towards her! But Snowfoot let the mouse go when she saw something else Dappledlight had startled. A garter snake! That would make quite the meal! Unfortunately, though, it saw Snowfoot coming and struck out at her paw.

Snowfoot found a snake! It used Serpent Strike for 6 damage and 10 SP!
