Snowy Pawsteps (OPEN hunting patrol)

Appledapple felt somewhat distant from her patrolmates as they padded towards the Stony Hollow, off to look for prey that might be using the stone construct as a shelter. The biting chill of the wind swallowed any warmth she might have felt, and she could no longer feel her paws as they stepped through the slushy snow below. Leaf-bare was not a season she enjoyed. She far preferred the warmth of the sun or the blinding colors of greenleaf. There was a beauty to the frost that hung off of the ferns, and the crystalline snow blanket that lay over the territory when she was on the first morning patrol. However, the bare bleakness of the stark lack of color felt too close to home. She didn't feel angry or sad, just somewhat... off. A little odd. As if there was a similar crusting of ice around her own heart that usually felt emotions at the drop of a leaf. Either way, she wasn't on a patrol to have fun, she was on a patrol to hunt. Finally, the Stony Hollow came into view, and the tortoiseshell she-cat let out a puff of exhaled air. "Well, time to find some prey. Good luck, everyone."

Copperpaw treaded beside his mentor along with the rest of the cats on the patrol. This was his first official hunting patrol he had been on since becoming an apprentice. He had a hunting training session with his mentor but had never gotten to join a hunting patrol until now. "I hope I'm able to actually catch something today," Copperpaw said to himself. He waited for the rest of the patrol to catch up before setting out to find some prey.

A huff of frost breath left the tom cat as soon as he had heard the words 'good luck'. He was going to need more than luck if he wanted to catch something.. Fighting he could do.. but hunting? With one eye? Was nearly impossible, and with how skittish the prey was these days he wasn't bound to catch anything. He knew he needed the practice but he still didn't understand why Stoatfur sent him out on hunting patrols.. One of the other warriors would be more successful than he ever would be now.

Starlingflare glanced at the others before turning away trying to find something.. anything.. A squirrel.. It was skinny.. but it was better than nothing, though he was going to need more than luck to try to catch this thing. Of course.. right as he jumped he came up short and took a face full of snow.. He growled out.. thorns.. This was hard.

OOC: Yes, anyone is allowed to join an "open" topic in their Clan unless it is stated otherwise. We have a +2 to hunting rolls since we are in the Stony Hollow, but we also have a -1 to hunting rolls due to being disadvantaged, so it cancels out to a +1. We use the leaf-bare hunting rolls in this topic.


The snow was chilly, but the prospect of a warm piece of fresh-kill was enticing enough to get Appledapple to move. She headed away from the other warrior and her apprentice for the first potential prey she smelled, which turned out to be a small mouse hiding in a little hollow of the stone. Instead of pouncing as normal, she slowly crept to the entrance of the crevice and stuck a paw in to try and fish out the little animal. Unfortunately, she underestimated the length of the hole, and the mouse scampered off further into the rock. Keeping in a snarl of frustration, the warrior stalked back to the group in order to try again. It seemed Starlingflare hadn't had luck, either.

Appledapple attempted to catch a mouse and was unsuccessful. -5 SP

Copperpaw spread out a bit from the rest of the patrol so they could cover more of the stony hollow and would hopefully get more prey while being spread out. He sniffed the air and spotted a mouse in between a stone. He padded lightly and quietly over to the mouse, and when he got close enough he jumped towards the mouse and was delighted when he saw that he had successfully caught the mouse.

Copperpaw attempted to catch a mouse and was successful because of the +1 to the hunting rolls.
