Gotta Start Slow

Sharptooth grumbled to herself as she sat up, her vision half-obscured by her tangled fur. The den was empty, and she could already see that it was raining lightly outside. How lovely- she must've overslept again. With a grunt Sharptooth hefted herself to her feet, her leg giving a painful twinge as she struggled to hurriedly groom herself without trampling other cat's nests. With a huff, she stumbled out of the den, her ears twitching. Her fur was going to be soaked by the end of today, but she had a job to do. Today was Sootpaw's first day out of camp, so Sharptooth forced a smile and trotted heavily towards the apprentice's den. "GET UP YOU LAZY MAG- err, Sootpaw, wake up. It's time for training."
Starclan, this was gonna be tough.

Sootpaws night was full of nightmares, the kind that left him kicking and whimpering in his sleep. The young tom was taking his first night away from his mother dreadfully hard, so it was only to be expected, with how close he was to his mother. Sootpaw launched out of his nest when he heard a voice shout, his short scruffy fur sticking out in all sorts of directions. But the voice soon toned down and quieted as his panicked blue eyes looked at the massive she-cat who looked oddly familiar to his sister.

"O-O-Okay S-S-S-Sharptooth ma'am." Sootpaw sputtered, shame and humiliation making his blue eyes tear up as he made his way over with shaking legs.

Sharptooth swallowed as the small tom stumbled out of the den, trying her best to purr reassuringly. "Today we're gonna go over the basics of hunting, ok?" That wasn't so bad, was it? The short-legged warrior shook out her drenched fur as she walked towards the camp entrance, her tail flicking every few steps. With a grunt, Sharptooth pushed through the bracken tunnel and emerged into Thunderclan's territory, her dull green eyes bright. The rain couldn't dampen her spirits now- she was out hunting, where she belonged. With renewed courage, Sharptooth turned back to Sootpaw. It would be best to find out how much he knew before she started the lesson- she didn't want to teach the tom something he already knew. "What do you know about hunting?" She mewed as she walked, wending her way through the trees as if by memory, her large paws steady.
