Skirmish of Thunder and Shadow

Heatherpetal looked out over the Thunderpath into the darkness of ShadowClan territory. It felt like just yesterday since her interaction with Firestone, yet at the same time it felt like an eternity ago. How could he have been so foolish as to disregard all she had told him about Buttercup? He didn't know her nearly as well as she did, nor did he see what that horrible cat had done to her father and littermates.

Her hackles rose at the thought of seeing Firestone again. She didn't want to see him again. He accused her of killing her own mother in cold blood when it was just an accident -- and after all Buttercup did to her family to begin with! She would make him pay for saying such awful things about her if she ever saw him again.

...And if she didn't see Firestone tonight, perhaps she could teach one of his Clanmates a lesson instead. That would be a good message for the unlucky ShadowClan tom or she-cat to take back to Firestone.

Newtface had been taking a stroll. Of course, he had caught some prey along the way. It was just buried in the snow. It would be unseemly of him as a warrior to miss an opportunity to bring home valuable food for the Clan. Most of the time, Newtface didn't enjoy quiet. He wanted at least something to be happening. However, there were times where he appreciated a lack of commotion. Now was not one of those times. His neck fur was prickling with anticipation as he padded through the wet territory that he had been raised and trained in. Never in his right mind was he expecting to run into a ThunderClan cat. The silence was suddenly and roughly interrupted by the sound of a monster crossing the Thunderpath. He figured that he should just check the border to make sure that everything was alright. Even though he didn't want to go anywhere near the stinking black path, the warrior knew that checking it out was the right thing. He wrinkled his nose in disgust as he neared the Thunderpath and the fumes got stronger. Once he made it to the edge, he noticed the form of a cat on the other side. He couldn't make out the scent of the cat from where he was, but from where she was standing, it seemed as if the cat was from ThunderClan. The tom narrowed his eyes as he stared across. The she-cat hadn't crossed over onto ShadowClan's side, but his suspicions were now high. Why would she be so close to the Thunderpath if she wasn't planning something?
"Hey!" He called across in an accusing tone, "What are you doing here?"

Heatherpetal blinked at the ShadowClan tom on the other side. Then her eyes narrowed. "Waiting for Firestone, your Clanmate. He's said some pretty nasty things to me -- nasty things about me -- and I plan on teaching him a thing or two." Her claws dug deep into the filthy grass just next to the rancid-smelling black stone. She was itching for battle. She was itching for justice on her own good name.

Newtface couldn't help but glare at the ThunderClan she-cat as he spoke. The whole deal between her and Firestone was something that he wasn't involved in, and he didn't want to get involved either. However, if this she-cat was waiting here just so that she could teach one of his Clanmates a lesson, he wasn't going to just sit back and let that happen. His yellow eyes glittered vehemently as he took a step closer towards the edge of the black Thunderpath.
"I'd suggest heading back to your camp. Who cares if Firestone said some things to you? I dunno what they were, but they were probably true," The speckled tom paused for a brief heartbeat, "Go vent your anger out on the trunk of a tree or something."

She didn't know what came about her, but all of a sudden inexplicable rage erupted throughout her body, and she let out a war cry before launching herself over the Thunderpath towards Newtface. She leaped at him and struck him down, claws outstretched. "You know nothing of what that dung-eating excuse for a mother did to me!"

Newtface let out a yowl of both rage and shock as he was bowled over by Heatherpetal. What was wrong with this she-cat? Suddenly, the tom's confusion was replaced with adrenaline and excitement. His thirst for fighting another cat was finally being quenched. While it wasn't a full-out war, he could still feel the claws on the rival cat on him, and that just fueled his fury. He was going to win this battle if it was the last thing he ever did. The speckled warrior unsheathed his hooked claws and leaped onto Heatherpetal. Newtface stared down at the ThunderClan warrior with determination and anger glittering in his yellow eyes.
"Y'know, it's not too late to go rip apart a tree or something. Trees don't fight back... but I will."

Newtface continued to glare down at Heatherpetal. He couldn't lose this fight. While he had the she-cat pinned, he knew that he wouldn't be able to keep her down for long.

Newtface's yellow eyes widened slightly in shock as Heatherpetal managed to escape him. Her attack was swift, and the speckled calico tom stumbled forwards a bit as a stinging sensation began to come from his underbelly. He wasn't going to give up that easily, though. Narrowing his eyes and growling, Newtface swiped at the ThunderClan cat's face with his sharp hooked claws.

Newtface hissed with rage as he was pinned by Heatherpetal. His brain was practically yelling at him, it was telling him that he had to win this. He refused to lose to this cat. The tortoiseshell warrior began to attempt to escape from the she-cat's grasp. This was a fight that he was going to win.

Heatherpetal gave one quick hard nip to Newtface's shoulder before he wriggled out from beneath her.
