Lonely Heart

Flowerpaw sighed and got to her feet. Her once-lustrous pelt hung off of her in matted patches and her bright minty eyes were dull.
She had stopped grooming herself a while ago.

She was lonely, to say the least.
She took up her normal place near the camp entrance and watched as cat's eyes slid over her, like she wasn't there at all.
Somehow, everyone else had ended up with friends. It probably started in the nursery, with a game. She speculated.

I am far too late to make friends. That thought often ran through her mind, like a fish swimming aimlessly in circles. She sighed and straightened her paws. Just because she didn't have friends didn't mean she couldn't be a good warrior, right?

She turned hopefully towards a cat making it's way out of the camp, hoping to tag along on a patrol, but it didn't even glance her way.

She turned around, startled, as a cat approached her.

Yes! He was out! Tallkit's long tail waved happily as he bounces out of the nursery. The young black kit clung to the edges of the camp, not wanting to draw too much attention to himself as he explores. A shiny beetle catches his eye and he crouches down, wiggling his tail in excitement. The young black tom's fur shimmers as he inches closer before the beetle starts flying away.

Determined to catch the bug, he darts after it. How am I supposed to be a good warrior if I can't catch a beetle? Keeping his eyes on the beetle he jumps to try to catch it, tripping and falling over his gangly legs. Tallkit sniffs slightly in disappointment and looks up to see he fell at the feet of a yound she-cat.

He grinned up at her bashfully and scrambled to regain his footing, cleaning himself off slightly after his fall. "Hi, I'm Tallkit! Are you an apprentice?"

The she-cat jumped slightly. "w-w-well... well I'm not really... really, I-I mean... y-yeah!" She stammered. She felt her raggedy fur grow hot with embarrassment- why hadn't she groomed herself this morning?
"W-who are you? I don't... don't think I've seen you around here b-before."

Tallkit's ears flattened slightly with worry. "Oh um.. my mom's Willowpetal. I'm not really supposed to be out but-" He looked up at his companion nervously and flicked his tail "We can keep that a secret, yea? What's your name?"

"I'm... I'm Flowerpaw." The she-cat mewed. "H-how d'you like the... like the camp so far?"

Tallkit noted the apprentice's mood and wondered how he could help cheer her up. She seemed really sweet and he couldn't understand why the she-cat was all alone. "It's great I can't wait to become an apprentice! I haven't really made any friends yet besides my litter mates though."

His fur grew hot as he mewed embarrassedly, "W-would you want to be my first friend, Flowerpaw?"

OOC: shoot I got busy sorry~

IC: Flowerpaw blushed, flustered. "O-of course!" She mewed with a shy grin, wrapping her tail around her paws.

Creamkit had woken from his nap to find his littermate Tallkit missing. Fear coursed through his belly. He began frantically searching in the nest before he worked up enough courage to look outside the den. Sure enough, there he was, talking to a scraggly she-cat. Creamkit was defensive and yet jealous, so he sprang into action. "Hi, who are you?" He asked suspiciously. He could not let his brother make friends with bad cats.

The she-cat shook herself. "I-I'm Flowerpaw, Morningfog and Smokeface's daughter," She mewed hurriedly. "A-are... are you Tallkit's brother?"

"Yes I am!" Creamkit said proudly puffing out his chest, but turned serious again "Why are you talking to Tallkit anyway?"

"Tallkit is my friend, right Tallkit?" The spotted apprentice turned to her new friend.

Creamkit eyed the apprentice one more time before turning friendly, "Can I be your friend? I've never had an apprentice friend before, or really any friend actually." Creamkit decided that this apprentice was a good cat and he might as well be friends with her. My first friend! That is, if she agrees..
