Yellowpaw's Assessment (closed)

Aspentail sat by the edge of the camp, waiting for her apprentice. Yellowpaw was almost ready to become a warrior, and she figured he was due for an assessment. The sun was past its highest point, and full daylight would only be here for a few more hours. Better get a move on. She wanted this done as quickly as possible.

Yellowpaw slowly approched and looked into his mentor. He figured out that it was time for assessment, so he was not suprised when he Aspentail waited for him at the entrance of the camp. His training was unussual long and he was a little jelaous on his half sister, which had assessment and became a warrior much faster than him, altough his apprentice ceremony was much faster. He was sure that this assessment would go very well, because he was ready. His hunting skills were perfect, on his opinion and also Aspentail was satispied with them as she showed on their trainings. He came closer and said without and emotion: "I am ready."

Without much of a further word, Aspentail nodded and began to lead Yellowpaw out to the riverbank. When they reached their destination, the warrior turned to her apprentice. "Alright, your assessment. Try and catch four fish, without my assistance." She glanced over to the river - it was full of silvery shapes flitting past - perfect conditions since the frost of Leafbare had begun to thaw. "I'll be watching you from a hidden spot. Pretend I'm not there, alright? Call to me when you're done. Got it? Good luck." And with that, Aspentail disappeared into the long grass.

Yellowpaw noded happily, because he knew that soon he will end his training. Without any other words, young tom left mentor and got deep into the forest looking for some prey to catch. Forest was full of different sounds and voices and smells. So many creatures on one place. But four of them will need to be catch very soon. He sniffed and suddenly figured out that some creature was hiding in the bush near him. He wanted to end this assessment sooner than usually other apprentices do, so he just jumped into the bush and hit something with his sharp claws. Hare was lying dead in the bush, without any chance to escape.
His first prey!

Happy because of his first catch which happened only a few minutes after leaving Aspentail, he continued sniffing. It was extremely good day, because he managed to found another creature only half hour after his first prey. There was a rabbit! He slowly approched and looked into small rabbit eating grass and watching the sun. But Yellowpaw was too quick and he steped on the broken branch which made too loud noises. Rabbit escaped.
Yellowpaw decided that river would be better for him. After some minutes of walking he was already at the river, which was full of fish. He put one paw into the water and waited for fish to calm again and started to swim near him. Then he hit a fattest fish very hard and quickly killed it. Second prey!

Yellowpaw smiled and decided that it would be good, if he catch another fish and then continue with forest prey. He put his paw into the water again and waited for fish to came near him again. Becuase of death of one fish, other creatures didn´t want to come closer and Yellowpaw patience grew smaller. After ten minutes of waiting and hoping that some fish will be brave enough something happened. Bigger fish, which was obviously a predator of smaller fish, on which was Yellowpaw waiting, suddenly appeared and fish didn´t have any other way to go. So all fish decided to went towards Yellowpaw. Apprentice happily hit first which came and killed it. Third catch!

Only one left to go. Yellow tom hoped that his mentor had seen all catches, which were absolutely were fast. Now tom decided to got back into the forest and find some other prey. Smelling and looking for different voices, Yellowpaw slowly steped on the grass on the forest floor. But then he heard some noises which were coming out of the little den near big oak tree. He slowly approached and smelled. Rodents! There was a family of rodents in the den and one was coming out of their safe heaven. Yellowpaw smiled and just waited for dumm rodent, which came out without even looking around. Few moments later, it was death in Yellowpaw´s mouth and fangs were put throgh him. Fourt catch.
Apprentice collected all pieces of prey and started journey towards the RiverClan camp.
After jumping into the river near his camp, he saw Aspentail waiting for him. With full mouths of prey he happily tried to said: "I´m done!"

Aspentail emerged from the reeds, a tiny smile flickering on her face for just a second, barely noticeable. "Well done. I'll make sure you get your warrior ceremony soon."
