Friends Go Hunting Together....Right? (Closed for Amber)

Leopardpaw was relaxing underneath a shady tree next to the camp wall, giving himself a quick groom. Dragging his paw over his ears, he looked around hopefully for someone he knew. He wanted to go hunting, but for once he was craving a bit of company. He had been working on perfecting his pounce, and wanted to show it off a bit. As cats came back from patrols, he watched patiently for a companion.

A grey,gingerish, and white she cat padded back with her mentor. She blinked spitting Leopardpaw and smiled. Lichenpaw padded over to him smiling"Hey Leopardpaw"

Catching sight of the young apprentice, Leopardpaw's spotted ears perked up. Jumping to his paws, he purred "Hey Lichenkit! Oh wait, Lichenpaw! Laughing, he asked "Do you want to go hunting? I know you just got back but...I'm bored out of my mind!"

Why am I acting so happy? As he gazed down at the small calico he pondered the strange fact that every time he talked to the she-cat he felt a warm glow rise in his heart. Internally shrugging it off, he waited for her response.

"Sure I'd love to go hunting"She mewed smiling. She laughed some"yeah it's Lichenpaw now"she smiled happily. She flicked her tail and looked around.

"Great! Lets go!" Rising to his paws, he began to lead the way to the camp entrace, letting Lichenpaw follow behind him. He was the eldest in the duo, so he felt obligated to take the lead. Pushing his way out of the gorse tunnel, he turned and asked "Where do you want to go?"

Lichenpaw smiled and followed after him an excited wave of her tail. As she followed him out of the gorse tunnel she paused thinking for a moment."Um I'm fine with anywhere"she mewed.

"Hmm...how about we head towards the river?  Maybe we could catch a water vole, it's my favorite!"  As he began to shift their direction, he slowed down so that he could walk alongside Lichenpaw.  Turning, he asked curiously; "What's your favorite prey?"  Chuckling, he added "If you have a favorite that is."

Lichenpaw smiled following with a slight purr. She flicked her tail before she blinked"well...mom got me to like magpies but...I don't specifically have a favorite yet"she mewed smiling some.

Leopardpaw nodded, and purred. "Yea, magpie is really good too." The two cats pushed their way through a bush and arrived at the edge of the river. Smiling, he meowed quietly to Lichenpaw "Let's try to find some prey instead of just chatting about it." Crouching down, he began to scent the air, looking for some food.

Lichenpaw blinked then nodded purring quietly before she fell quiet and she sniffed the air as well. The fluffy gray ginger and white she cat lowered into her haunches quietly.

Suddenly, Leopardpaw's ears perked at the sound of rustling pebbles.  Catching sight of, ironically, a magpie looking for bugs at the edge of the river.  Signaling with his tail for quiet, he began to carefully stalk the black and white bird, placing his paws down lightly as he crept forward. In a powerful leap, he aimed to pin the bird down to the ground but just barely missed. Slamming his spotted paws down on empty stones, he watched sadly as the bird took flight. Turning, he meowed, embarrassed, to Lichenpaw; "S..sorry." He had wanted to catch the bird for her.

Leopardpaw nodded, still feeling a bit ashamed. Looking up, he smiled kindly at the younger she-cat and touched his tail to her shoulder in a friendly gesture. Nodding back towards the riverbank, he asked; "Do you want to try catching something?"
