Hazefur grumbled again, seriously considering going out to help her. But she knew this was an assessment, and that couldn't be done. She just watched.

Stalking another piece of prey, Kindlepaw lept towards it and caught it by surprise. Killing it before it could get away from her grasp, the apprentice buried it under the thin layer of snow, glad that she'd finally caught something.

Hazefur perked her ears, yes! She mentally chimed, a smile forming on her face. She paused, Kindlepaw needed to catch one more piece of prey... So the warrior settled her excitement and continued to watch.

Well, she'd caught one piece of prey, but still had to work a little more. Moving swiftly through the tall grass, she caught sight of a vole and crouched down, ready to pounce. Bunching up her hind legs, the dark grey apprentice raced out of her hiding spot. Extending her claws, she grabbed hold of the small mouse like animal and quickly killed it. Finally, she was done!

Looking around, she wondered where Hazefur was.

Hazefur lifted his head a bit, watching as Kindlepaw quickly amde another kill. The warrior smiled, and bushed herself out of her hiding spot.

"Well done Kindlepaw!" She trotted up to her purring, more than proud of her daughter. "You're going to make a fine warrior, just like me and your father." She praised, happy to see her succeed.

Turning around to see Hazefur, the apprentice's smile soon faded to a frown when she mentioned Smokepelt, her father... a respected and somewhat hated cat through out the clans. It wasn't that she didn't love him or wanted him dead, but with Ryepaw now in their lives, all they thought about was their weird, deformed son, and she didn't like it.

"Yeah, like father," she mumbled, her tail hung low and her ears flat on her head as she looked down to the piece of prey at her paws. Eyes narrowed and not daring to look at Hazefur, her hateful emotions towards the tom and her sisters slowly crept back in.

Hazefur's smile faded just as Kindlepaw's had, why had she sounded so unhappy? She just passed her assessment! What could be greater for an apprentice than that? The warrior pinned her ears at the tone of Kindlepaw's voice.

"Yes, like your father, what's wrong with that?" She questioned, a little concerned by the tone of her voice and obviously confused.

Looking up from her paws, Kindlepaw hated to see her mother unhappy, but she wasn't going to be fake any longer. Although she wanted to explain all of her feelings, where would she start and how would Hazefur react? With thoughts and questions racing through her head, the apprentice let out a sigh, trying to find the right words.

"You and Smokepelt protect Ryepaw too much," she started, realizing that her words sounded harsher than she'd wanted them too.

"H-how can you both love something with practically no hope, a cat with problems that will never heal? Why even waste your time?" Kindlepaw mewed, anger, sadness, and other mixed emotions that she didn't know how to deal with in her eyes as she looked to her mother, her words ice cold. At this point, Kindlepaw didn't care how she worded anything, she needed to get her thoughts out and wanted an honest answer.

Hazefur let her ears fall back, "Kindlepaw, dear, we are all Ryepaw has, we can't just leave him to die..." At the mentioned of death she recalled the time her mate had tried to kill Ryepaw, she shuddered at the thought, quickly pushing it aside. "If we loose hope on him he's done for..." She trailed off for the second time, a sudden rage coursing through her.

"How could you say something like that anyway?" She scolded, keeping her fur from standing on end. Hazefur was a generally calm matured she-cat, she honestly hated having to tell Kindlepaw right from wrong. "Now listen, I want to see you try to tolerate him more." She sighed, flicking an ear. "Please? For me? At least try, maybe you'll see he's not all that bad." She tried, hoping to get Kindlepaw to lighten up toward her brother a bit.

Yes he was different, yes he would probably never have a normal life, a mate, who knew? Either way, Ryepaw was Kindlepaw's brother, and Hazefur's son, she would do anything to keep him from harms way.

She should've known, of course Hazefur would say something like that.

Letting out a sigh, Kindlepaw started to feel ashamed for how she'd lashed out to her own mother. What in StarClan's name is going on with me? I'm better than this! she thought to herself, tears making their way onto her grey face. She was acting like a kit and her cheeks became hot with embarrassment.

Looking up from her paws and to Hazefur, the apprentice tried not to burst out in tears when her mother finished. Giving a small nod, she knew that she didn't really have any other choice but to put up with Ryepaw and the only reason she was going to do it was because she didn't want to let Hazefur down. "Alright," she mumbled, a small smile growing on her uncertain face. "I'll do it for you," though he probably already hates my guts, she thought to herself, rethinking what she'd almost done to him a little while back. Not only that, but Ryepaw didn't seem to like anyone other than Hazefur and Smokepelt, so how was she supposed to grow closer to him? She'd figure that out later.

"I'm sorry," she mewed after a few moments of silence, her guilt getting the better of her. Although she had been sour over the whole Ryepaw thing, she would never get over the fact that she'd disappointed her family and knowing that she was better than that made her doubt her physiological strength even more. "I... I've been acting like a kit and what I did to Ryepaw... it wasn't right. You and Smokepelt have every reason to be mad at me," the she-cat added softly, her head hanging low as she waited for her mother's reply.

Hazefur simply smiled, happy to hear her daughter come through. "Don't just do it for me though, do it for you as well." The warrior reminded, hoping Kindlepaw could at least find some sort of joy eventually when around Ryepaw. She leaned forward a bit, nudging away the small trail of water that fell from her daughter's cheek with the side of her muzzle, she hated seeing Kindlepaw cry, it was quite an unusual sight actually.

"I want to see you apologize to Ryepaw, you know. I haven't seen you do that." She paused, glancing to the side. "Me and your father, we aren't mad at you. In the moment, yes, but now it's over, it already happened, we can put that in the past." The she-cat offered Kindlepaw another smile.

Listening to Hazefur, she had to admit, her mother always had a way with words. Comforted by the she-cat's words, she nuzzled her mother back and gave a small nod, agreeing to her terms, for now. She would apologize to her little brother, if he let her, and upon hearing that her parents didn't hate her, she let out a sigh of relief. Giving a smile, although she probably looked pretty embarrassed. At least she'd cleared things up with her mother.

"Well, want to head back to camp? I have some apologizing to do," the dark grey apprentice asked with a slight giggle, her former cheery personality starting to return.
