Sunkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Darkstar clambered up onto the Highrock, pausing for a moment to watch a storm on the horizon. With the way the wind was blowing, it wouldn't come towards the forest, but the frequent low thunder could be heard even from where she was standing. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather under the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

Sunkit ran over to the Highrock and stared at the leader with wide, curious eyes. What was happening? Was it good or bad?

Emberheart padded over, settling herself below the Highrock next to Sunkit. She gave a glance, then a grin at the kit. She remembered her apprentice ceremony like yesterday; and she'd been beyond excited then.
Her attention turned back to Darkstar, tail-tip flicking in the sand.

Pinewhisker joined his former apprentice, trailing his paws feebly behind him. Dreamleaf had done marvelous work in healing him, but he was still drained of energy. He lay down almost imediately as he reached Emberheart, shrugging of the pain and trying to look okay. The last poultice he had taken had not been long ago, hopefully it'll keep him without too much pain thorugh the ceremony.

Darkstar set her gaze on the cats below. "Sunkit, please step forward."

Sunkit looked around at the other cats, wondering if there was another Sunkit. Was Darkstar talking to her? She stepped forward warily and stared at the leader.

"Sunkit, you have reached the age of six moons and it is time that you became apprenticed. From this moment forward until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Sunpaw." Darkstar turned her head slightly towards the ginger warrior. "Emberheart, I know you to be skillful as well as kind. You will be Sunpaw's mentor." With that, the leader leaped down to conclude the ceremony.

Pinewhisker burried his nose in his former apprentice's fur, purring loudly. She deserved it so much. "Congratulations. I never doubted you could take your first apprentice from such a young age. Darkstar chose wisely."

Emberpaw's heart nearly stopped.

Her? Her first apprentice?

Letting out a loud purr, rumbling deep inside of her throat, the russet warrior padded towards the newly named Sunpaw and touched noses, feeling as though it was a dream. 
She tossed a happy grin back towards her old mentor, feeling a wave of nostalgia blow over her. 
I'll be just as good as Pinewhisker, I swear to Starclan…
