The Reed and the Elm and the Frost [closed]

Reedfang sat at the entrance of the camp. He offered to take a few apprentice's out for training, since he just recently lost his other apprentice due to drowning in the river. And the two apprentice's he ended up with were both his sister's kits, Frostpaw, and Elmpaw. He hoped that the two got along decently well, or else this wouldn't be too fun.

Frostpaw exited the apprentices' den, and turned back to the entrance to shout at Elmpaw. "Come on Elmpaw!" She said excitedly. She didn't have to deal with Rainstorm today. So this was a better day for the white tabby.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," Elmpaw muttered back as he stumbled from the apprentice den after his sister, not really noticing the irony of how different this was from their first trip out of the nursery as kits - Frostpaw being the one all excited to go while he was lagging behind. His eyes flickered up to see Reedfang already waiting for him, causing his ears to flicker back on his head in embarrassment as he picked up the pace toward his uncle. "What are we doing today?" he asked in a brisk tone, trying to hide the fact that he had not been wanting to do this moments before. Training was important, he knew that but...He had stayed up rather late watching the stars and was a bit tried - but he could manage! Besides, he was happy to be training with Frostpaw today, as he barely saw his sister now-a-days, much less had time to chat with her!

"We are just going to go on a patrol around the territory, nothing too hard for today. It's a nice day out why not enjoy it?" He would probably tell them to catch a piece of prey on their way around to test their hunting skills, but that would be a while away. "Are you two ready to go?" He asked look between the two apprentices.

Frostpaw could barely keep herself from bouncing around. A relaxed day sounded nice, especially going on a patrol with her brother. "I'm ready!" She said to her uncle, looking at her brother with an excited look.

A border patrol? His ears fell a bit, disappointed by the simplify of the patrol but...His eyes flickered toward the sky, before letting a smile tug at the edge of his lips. Yeah...It was a nice day. Besides, it could give him a chance to talk to Frostpaw, and maybe get to know his uncle a bit better! "A border patrol sounds nice," he purred as he returned his gaze to the two other cats, his tail flickering as he nodded his head. "I'm ready to go."

Reedfang gave off a small purr before turning and heading out of the camp, and into the territory. "We are heading for the Thunderclan border first." He said to the small cats following behind him. The brown tabby kept his head forward making sure that if anything was coming their way he would be the first to noticed.

Frostpaw nodded then followed her uncle out into the territory. She remained silent now they were out in the territory. She was constantly listening for something, or awaiting Reedfang to tell them to do something. She didn't need to get distracted out here or else something bad could happen.

ThunderClan was first, huh? A soft sneer flickered onto his face as he trotted after the two of them. If there was one Clan he held the most disdain for, it was them. He didn't trust them; after all, they were in an endless war for a piece of territory that was RiverClan's by right! They just were to proud to admit it. His ears flickered as he glanced around, keeping an eye out although he was half tempted to speak up simply to put an end to the silence but...He supposed they needed to keep an eye out. A huff escaped him as he pouted. So much for getting to know Reedfang and Frostpaw a bit better...

It didn't take long for the three of them to get to the border. The smell of thunderclan filled the area as well as the smell of Riverclan, and the river. The river was rather calm in this area so it wasn't too dangerous. "Alright we are here. What do you two smell?" He asked the two apprentices.

Frostpaw opened her mouth, trying to figure out what she was smelling. She already knew what Thunderclan smelled like, but she was going to go along with what Reedfang was questioning. "I smell trees.." She remarked.

Elmpaw came to a stop next to his sister, his gaze flickering toward the forest just beyond the river. He snorted softly as he swished his tail, wondering how any cats could live in such a dense area. He liked the openness of the RiverClan territory, he didn't think he could stand being covered by trees at all time. How were they suppose to bask in the sun when the leaves stopped it from getting though? He just didn't understand. His eyes however flickered to Reedfang as the warrior spoke up, posing them a question of what they smelled. He opened his mouth as well, breathing in the sense that lingered around them. His sister was right - he could smell trees. What else did he smell? A different, faint scent drifted from across the border. It reminded him of the scent of vole...It was prey, no doubt. But it wasn't one he knew of. "I smell something faint that reminds me of a scent of a vole," he offered up lightly with a soft shrug of his shoulders.

Occ: What Elmpaw is smelling is a mouse btw.

Reedfang let out a small chuckle. "What you are smelling Elmpaw is a mouse. Those are plentiful over on Thunderclan's territory. We occasionally get them over here, water voles, and voles are more common." The warrior informed flicking his gaze back across the river for a split second. "There is also Thunderclan's scent too. Which you will get used to an be able to recognize with a bit more training and a few more gatherings." The brown tabby informed the two apprentices. The warrior looked around a little more before deciding to move on. "We are going to head to the windclan border now. We will pass the Fourtress which I'm sure you two have seen before." The tom informed before turning away from their spot, and walking along to the windclan side of things.

Frostpaw listened with intent on what Reedfang was saying. She wanted to learn as much as she could. It was nice to get another warriors perspective on things instead of just Rainstorm's. Maybe she could share her knowledge with her night mentor as she liked to call them. The white tabby looked at her brother, and gave him a friendly smile, and a nod before following after their uncle. She was enjoying this.
