When it's Cold there is Always Frost [Open]

Frostkit sat inside the nursery, looking out at the camp. The snow covered the ground. She didn't know how to feel about the white stuff. It sort of matched her, but she had some gray and brown on her. So it couldn't be frost could it? She approached the enterance of the nursery slowly trying not to touch the white stuff she didn't know about. The snow had tumbled in the opening slightly but not enough to cause any issue for the cats inside. She studied the snow for a moment before reaching out a small paw to touch the stuff. As soon has her tiny paw touched the cold stuff, she jumped back, and let out a tiny squeak. "It's so cold!" She peered out the exit looking at the others who were trudging though the stuff easily. How? "How do they do that? Wouldn't they be cold?" She pondered aloud.

Elmkit padded aside his sister, a soft scowl on his face as he stared at the strange white field that blocked the entrance. His eyes glanced at the older cats that easily moved through the stuff, shaking his head as his short fur stood on edge from the cold air that lurked. "I dunno," he muttered as he plopped down, wrapping his tail around his paws as he stared at the cold world that lurked outside the warmth of the nursery. "Maybe cause they're older?" he asked with a soft shrug. He wanted to go exploring thought but just being near the entrance chilled his skin...Suppose it would be another day of playing inside.

Frostkit let out a small groan. She wanted to do that too. She didn't want to be trapped inside again. "But I wanna play outside!" She whined slightly. She was tired of being stuck in here. Their mother would come and go as she pleased so why couldn't they? The white kit let out a small huff. She turned and looked at her brother. "What are we supposed to do?" She asked.

Lying in her nest, Ivyfall watched fondly as her kits touched snow for the first time. The queen was a little tired from keeping up with her kits, making sure they suckled regularly and were kept clean so they weren't at risk of Greencough. She knew she was a little foolish having kits in the cold season, but looking at them, she couldn't regret her decision. For so long she'd felt removed, lonely amongst family, only her broter, Rainpaw, understanding her. Her kits were like a burst of sunshine in her life, these kits meant the world to the queen. To have family again, after losing everything. "I'm sure they find it cold as well. But unlike you," she flicked her tail gently at Elmkit. "They're older and much more used to it. Once the snow stops, we'll all go out together, Frostkit. Play with your siblings inside the den for today."

Pawing at the corner of her bedding, the queen rolled up a decent sized ball for the kits. With a swift swipe, she rolled it over to the kits. "Here, catch, Elmkit."

"I wanna go outside as well," Elmkit sighed loudly, before glancing at his sister. What should they do? His ears flickered back as he thought upon that, unsure. Of course, he didn't have to come up with an answer when their mother spoke up. His blue eyes turned to look at her, his tail twitching as she explained how the older warriors seemed okay with the...Snow? Was that what the white stuff outside was? He glanced once again at this so-called snow, wanting to go see how cold it truly was when his mother called his name.

Spinning to see what he was suppose to catch, he smiled at the sight of the moss ball. He couched down before darting at the ball as if was a piece of prey. His paws squished the ball as he attempted to land on it but he had been going to fast and had attempted to stop to soon. His momentum called him to trip over the ball, rolling head over tail onto his back as the moss rolled away from his grasp and toward his sister. A soft chuckle escaped the tom as he stared over at Frostkit. "Whoops."

Frostkit turned towards her mother when she spoke up. The kit's blue eyes blinked, and her head tilted when her mother mentioned the white stuff being called snow. Snow? What a strange name for something. Was there cats called Snow around here? There probably was but the young kit didn't know about it yet. A slight annoyed look appeared on her face when she was told to stay inside, but she didn't argue with her mom about it.

She stood from her spot and looked towards her brother only to seem him crash to the ground, and the ball rolled towards her slowly. She looked between her brother, and the moss ball. She didn't really know what to do with it. Was she supposed to toss it to him like her mother had done? She quickly grasps the moss ball in her teeth, and tossed it towards her brother.

"Idiots." She mumbled, with a chuckle, from her nest. The small kitten, daughter of Ivyfall and littermate to Elmkit and Frostkit, sat in the nest, watching their wails and cries. The she-cat snickered and padded over, eyes brightening at the sight of a ball. The idea of going outside didn't entice her as much as it seemed to her siblings. Moss-ball, well, she didn't play before, and thought it to be interesting. She turned her head back to her mother and giggled. She grabbed the ball after Elmkit tossed it to Frostkit and back again, grabbing it before her brother could.
"Hahaha!" She squealed as she hit the ball, and it rolled to the  walls of the nursery before bouncing back around to Frostkit.

Ivyfall could tell that neither of them were too please to be stuck inside for another long stretch, these past few moons had been tiring on all of them. The queen was also unused to remaining passive for so long, she yearned to hunt amongst the reeds as well, to sink her teeth into prey. But she wouldn't risk her kits freezing to death while she was gone, especially since she was the only queen in the nursery.

They all endured together. When the weather was a little bit better or they were older, she'd take them outside and let them run around, catching falling snow. For now, they'd have to be content playing with each other. Luckily, Jaykit looked eager to play, regardless of their surroundings. With that knowledge, the queen shut her eyes to catch a quick nap while she could, but at every noise, her whiskers twitched, she was sleeping lightly enough to be roused at the first sign of trouble.

Elmkit had been rolling onto his stomach to grab the ball when Jaykit darted it to steal it. His ears swiveled back on his head as he pushed himself to his paws yet light danced in his eyes. "Hey!" he playfully growled as he bounded over toward the moss-ball thief. "That was my ball! You're gonna pay for that!" he laughed, swiping his paw at his Jaykit's tail before jumping backwards. He then crouched, ready for if Jaykit decided to attack back. Playfighting was way more fun then playing with the moss ball - and it was great training! Elmkit wanted to be the best warrior in all of the Clans so he could protect his sisters and Clan!

Frostkit sat down when her sister had stolen the ball from Elmkit. The white kit frowned slightly, watching as her brother challenged her sister. She didn't want to do any play fighting. She was never really too found of that activity. She was small, and she always managed to get hurt some how. She looked back towards the moss ball that somehow ended up at her paws. Since those two were busy fighting she decided to pounce on the moss ball. Sinking her tiny teeth into the moss even though it tasted disgusting. Her claws followed suit. Soon enough the kit had bits of moss covering her, but her head, and front paws were tangled up in the ball itself.

[Ooc: Late to the party, but making a flash entrance anyway!]

He could hear them scurrying about, moaning about something he couldn't quite care too much to pay any attention. The little kit flicked an ear, hoping to drown out the sound of his littermates. It was warm in here and he could use some extra moments of sleep. Eventually though, he resigned himself to the fact that peace was not to be had. Rising languidly to his paws, Possumkit shook out his fur and tried to make sense of what he was seeing. Elmkit and Jaykit were busy being obnoxious playfighting while Frostkit had apparently decided to wear... moss? "Wh-wha-whatcha doing?" the little tom asked Frostkit. "D'ya need some h-help?" Maybe if he could get things back to normal he would be able to go back to sleep.
