Another one bites the frost (Open)

Tears in her eyes, Nutpaw carried Flowerpetal´s scruff as she hauled her body into camp. The mist had killed her, frozen her to death, and neither her nor Cinderpaw could do anything about it. For some reason, the brown apprentice felt guilty to her soul, although she wasn't at all mad at the other apprentice. She choked out a sob as she set down the passed warrior in camp, where the whole clan would learn of her failure to save a warrior.
"RiverClan!" she called out, grief streaking her voice. "We were attacked by the mist and it... killed Flowerpetal." After managing to tell the knews, the apprentice looked forlornly around camp.

Swanpaw stepped out of the apprentice's den at the noise, and froze at the sight of her mother's limp body.
She struggled to speak, but couldn't find the words to match her thoughts.
Only one word, her voice quiet and broken...
"M-mother...?"

Foamkit followed his older sister curiously, his eyes widening in horror as they took in the view of the dead cat. In insides were burning with pain, his face was contirted in a look of misery, but when he spoke, he forced his voice to be gleeful. I can't cry! I need to be strong! he urged himself.

"S-she... she's... she's sleeping with the fishes now..." the gloom tore at his heart, but he laughed drily, looking at the other cats.

Swanpaw let out a weak, somewhat forced laugh at her brother's comment.
It almost made her feel a little bit better. Almost, but not quite.

Cinderpaw helped Nutpaw carry in Flowerpetal but once she was set in camp the apprentice backed up into the shadows. She felt like it was all her fault this happened. Nutpaw at least tried to save her but all Cinderpaw did was freeze. What was the point of her coming back if she can't do anything?? She silently cried as she saw Swanpaw and Foamkit mourn their mother. She couldn't face them in the eye now.

If Nutpaw´s heart had broken when she realized that Flowerpetal had died, then it had shattered when she realized that the young warrior had kits. Foamkit was still a kit, and Swanpaw had just been made an apprentice. It made her want to cry. But she had to stay strong for the good of her clan. No cat wanted to sit around and watch her cry all day.
"Your mother died fighting, and she was a beacon of hope to Cinderpaw and I. We shall all remember her as a brave warrior, and helpful clanmate, and a loving mother," the brown apprentice said respectively, before she sat down, a small sob escaping her lips.

Swanpaw sat next to her mother, and whispered, "Th-thank you."
Silently, she made a vow to herself. She would do her best for her mother, who was looking down on them even now, and her brothers, who weren't that much smaller than she herself was, and for herself.
She would be the best warrior that RiverClan had ever seen, and that - what had Nutpaw called it? Mist? That Mist wouldn't stand a chance.
But for now, she was small, and felt alone, and her mother was gone, so she stuck close to Foamkit.

Asterpaw blinked awake to the sound of yelling. She walked out not long after Swanpaw, curious about the commotion, and widened her eyes at the sight in front of her. "Oh no," She murmured, voice cracking. She hadn't known Flowerpetal too well, but her stomach still dropped, heart beating. While everyone else was crying or on the verge of it, Asterpaw was silent, cold, like that 'mist' had transferred over to her. Her head span. Why? Why Flowerpetal? What about her family?

"May she rest in Starclan," She said automatically, voice flat. It wasn't like she didn't care - quite the opposite - but the sheer amount of grief she felt was too much to handle. Once Asterpaw sat down, she silently stared ahead. The world slipped away for a while.
