Flamestripe headed into the middle of camp, and looked around. He padded over to the fresh-kill pile and wolfed down a mouse. Then he straightened up and padded to the entrance to camp. "Hey, ThunderClan, does anyone want to come on a border patrol?"

Turtlepelt rose at the sound of Flamestripe's voice. "I will," she yawned as she trotted out of the warrior's den.

Flamestripe waved his tail in greeting as Turtlepelt padded towards him. "Great!" he mewed cheerfully. He scanned the rocks. "Anyone else?"

Rainpaw looked out of the apprentice den when Flamestripe asked who would join the border patrol. "May I come with you?", the she-cat asked and went over to the two cats. She didn't like patrols very much, but it was better than hanging around in the camp all day.

Flamestripe purred to himself as he remembered the times he and Rainpaw had spent together when he himself was just an apprentice and Rainpaw was a kit. "Sure, Rainpaw!" He flicked his tail invitingly.

"Where would we be patrolling?" Turtlepelt asked her old acquaintance. "Are there any other patrols out?"

"We'll patrol the ShadowClan border today. That's border has been recently quite unguarded.... And I think there's another patrol out on the RiverClan border, so this patrol should work out quite nicely. Shall we go? It doesn't seem as though any other cats are joining us." Flamestripe turned towards the entrance after answering Turtlepelt's questions, and beckoned his two Clanmates forward.

Suddenly Rainpaw noticed that the orange cat was the one she played with when she had been a kit. She smiled at Flamestripe. He's already a warrior! The tom-cat said that they would patrol the ShadowClan border and went to the entrance. The gray apprentice followed him.

Flamestripe saw Rainpaw smile at him and caught his eye. He gave her a very meaningful nod, and winked at his old friend. If Silkcloud had never existed, Rainpaw and I might be excited about having our kits right about now.... he thought, amusement bubbling inside him.

"Let's go." The orange tabby padded out of the den and headed towards the Thunderpath, the border between Thunderclan and ShadowClan.

Turtlepelt nodded and followed. She looked at the strangeness of the Thunderpath, remembering her curiosity when she was a kit, new to the ways of ThunderClan. "How's everything been with you, Flamestripe?" she asked to fill the silence.

Flamestripe thought for a moment while spraying a marker. "Things have been going well," he mewed at last. "But there hasn't been a lot of excitement. How have things been going with you?" He continued on to the next marker, flicking his tail at Rainpaw to tell her to mark it.

When the three cats approached the Thunderpath, Rainpaw turned up her nose. It smelled really bad. The warriors were talking about their lifes. Then Flamestripe indicated the apprentice to mark the border. Rainpaw nodded and sprayed her marker. She sniffed. "Doesn't seem like any of the ShadowClan-cats has crossed the border.", she said quietly.

"Yes, and thank goodness for that," Turtlepelt answered the young apprentice. To Flamestripe she said: "I got injured during the fire, and I still have some trouble running. But aside from that, nothing. No love interests, no life-changing visions, no prophecies from StarClan. But I'm not complaining- I'd rather have the life of an ordinary warrior than a legendary hero. Half of ThunderClan doesn't know my name, but that's fine with me.

Flamestripe purred in amusement. "Hope your injury heals!" he mewed truthfully, though he was still purring with laughter.

Turning to Rainpaw, he nodded, and said, "Good job. You go and scout ahead, and mark a border marker or two, and Turtlepelt and I will finish the job behind." He flicked his tail at Turtlepelt. "You can do the next marker...." His voice trailed off, and Flamestripe's thoughts maneuvered elsewhere. Feeling bored, he trotted in a circle, waiting for Turtlepelt to finish marking the marker.

The she-cat smiled when Flamestripe praised her. Seems like even someone like me can make things right. Then she nodded and walked along the border while spraying markers. The ShadowClan-cats shouldn't think, that the ThunderClan-cats woulnd't mark their borders. The gray apprentice was a bit bored of this patrol but she didn't say anything.
