Frostpaw's Training #1: Border Training

Silentflower walked into the apprentices' den and prodded her paw at her apprentice. "Frostpaw, wake up. We're doing Dawn Patrol," Silentflower whispered into the she-cat's ear. Walking out, she waited for her apprentice at the entrance.

Frostpaw yawned, then quietly walked outside. "Is anyone else coming?" she asked, yawning again as she looked around. She was really excited, but also really tired as well. She stretched.

"No, just us. It'll be easier for me to teach you the basics that way too." Silentflower replied. "Ready now Frostpaw?" she asked, stretching her legs and flicking her tail.

"Ok!" Frostpaw meowed eagerly.

Heading out, she beckoned her apprentice out. Seeing the ThunderClan border mark, Silentflower nodded her head, "This is the border mark, but we won't refresh it since we don't have any ThunderClan scent. However, when we get home to our territory again, you'll help me mark some of the borders. Alright?"

"Okay!" Frostpaw said, excited. She sniffed the border mark. It smelled more woodsy than it smelled back at the camp, probably because the camp smell was mixed with SkyClan and ThunderClan.

OOC: On your ranks, just put the mentor name. You don't have to state that it's me. ^^;

IC: Silentflower purred, "Not used to it huh? Camp is mixed with our scent and ThunderClan scent, so it's much different outside. It's nice to come out for some fresh air though." Heading towards the Thunderpath, she warned, "Don't go until I tell you to. It'll be dangerous to cross." Continuing, "There are monsters on these Thunderpaths and they can kill a cat in a split second and continue moving along like nothing happened! I'd recommend you wait until I tell you to go."

'Don't tell me I'm scaring her! That's not what I want to do... I'm trying to tell the truth about this! It's too dangerous to cross unless you know how to cross it properly!' she thought, her ears pricked in alert to hear if monsters were coming.

"Look both ways twice before you choose to cross. However, since it's your first time, I'll give you the signal with a flick of my tail. OK?" Silentflower mewed, her eyes full of warning to tell the apprentice not to do anything foolish.

Frostpaw nodded, eyes wide. She waited for the signal.

Looking to both sides, Silentflower heard and smelled nothing. Not even a glint of the shine that reflects from those monsters. Double checking before she said anything, Silentflower flicked her tail, and mewed quickly, "Alright, go!"

Heading over to the other side, Silentflower checked to see if her apprentice was moving along. "Come on!" she shouted to her apprentice from the other side.

Frostpaw shook off the fear and darted quickly across the Thunderpath.

"Good now? Alright, great." Silentflower mewed, continuing the patrol. Smelling the air, she purred, "I'll go show you some good places to get moss. It'll help with when you move into the apprentices' den tonight."

Frostpaw nodded. She wasn't sure how she'd like getting moss. She had heard from other apprentices that it was a boring task.

"It's not supposed to be a fun task, but one day you'll understand why when you're an elder!" Silentflower mewed, her eyes glinted with amusement. Looking around, she saw a crevice nearby. "Here's an area with tons of moss! I'd recommend you don't get stuck in there though. It'll take awhile to actually get you out." the silver tabby explained. Placing her paws in the moss, she unsheathed her claws.

"You have to slice it out nicely and it'll hurt the first couple times because you aren't used to it. Afterwards, tuck underneath your chin. I know it seems weird, but you'll be able to carry more moss that way," Silentflower continued as she sliced at the moss. They landed beside her in neat bundles. "Now you try," Silentflower mewed happily.

Frostpaw raised an unsheathed claw and started clawing at it. She winced a little, but got used to it. Her bundles were small and ragged. She looked up at Silentflower hesitantly. "Am I doing it right?" she asked.

"Better for an apprentice who's just started. Let's get back home now, alright? I bet there's a tasty bird on the top of the fresh-kill pile just for you!" Silentflower purred, leading Frostpaw the way home, but away from the Thunderpath.
